Eighteen individuals aged between 17 and 48 were arrested following a disturbance at a temple-organised auction at a school hall in Pekan Nanas, Johor.
00:00Police have arrested 18 individuals aged between 17 and 48 following a disturbance at a temple-organized auction held in a school hall at SJKC Perkan Nanas on Friday night.
00:14Pontian OCPD Superintendent Mohamed Shofi Tayyib said the incident occurred around 11.30pm and was believed to have been sparked by dissatisfaction over the auctioned items.
00:25The auction, which was held to raise funds for the temple, did not involve any proceeds being directed to private groups.
00:33A team from the District Criminal Investigation Department responded promptly to the scene.
00:39All suspects have been remanded until July 9 to assist with ongoing investigations.
00:44The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for Rioting with Weapons as well as Section 427 for Committing Mischief.
00:56Superintendent Mohamed Shofi warned that the police would not tolerate any form of criminal activity and urged the public not to spread unverified videos or speculation regarding the incident.
