An incident involving a Ryanair aircraft caused panic and tense moments on Saturday night (5 July) at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), Spain.
A small fire broke out aboard a Boeing 737-800, registration G-RUKN, prompting an emergency evacuation. A total of 18 people were injured, six of whom were taken to hospital.
Flight RK3446, bound for Manchester, was taxiing on the runway when the captain reported a “partial engine fire” to air traffic control, according to preliminary information. After informing the passengers, the crew initiated emergency evacuation procedures.
During the evacuation, some passengers panicked and jumped directly from the aircraft’s wings to the ground. Rescue and emergency teams responded quickly, providing first aid on the scene.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by airport authorities and the airline.
