00:00and that as I say was the preservation of life and at that point there was no
00:03help coming we were the help armed police were coming but there were 10-15
00:09minutes away and that's far too long in that situation and it's not the fault of
00:12my colleagues it's just the way it played out on that morning and and so
00:17yeah it was just a case of doing what I thought needed to be done it was a
00:21decision do we contain the defendant or do we confront and that was a decision
00:28that needed to be made quickly and obviously the decision was to confront
00:32because I felt that had we done anything else then more members of the public
00:37and potentially police officers would have been seriously injured or or worse
00:42Sir Mark Rowley the head of the Metropolitan Police praised the
00:48extraordinary bravery of the officers who responded to the actions of Marcus
00:55Monzo on the 30th of April last year last week Monzo was jailed for life with a
01:02minimum term of 40 years after being found guilty of 14 year old Daniel and
01:09Jorin's murder three charges of attempted murder aggravated burglary and
01:14possession of a bladed article relating to a kitchen knife well there's there's luck
01:22involved clearly and the good work of those members of the public's good
01:27instincts to get away from this man and we saw footage of someone who had just
01:33been hit by a van and was still able to recognize the danger he was in we saw
01:36heroics from from Henry in his bedroom saving his wife and undoubtedly the the
01:43actions of the initial responding officers we've got Yaz and Cameron King what
01:48they didn't surprise me they do it every day there's nothing new about what they did we
01:51chase people with knives we chase people with firearms we chase people with
01:55offensive weapons so they were there to do what they do every day so there's no
02:00surprise but what they did undoubtedly undoubtedly saved the further loss of
02:05life I'm proud of them every day I'm proud of them every day and I'm as I say I
02:09they needed no supervision or direction to chase down a man with a sword and that
02:14should speak volumes but right now probably as I speak there's a police officer
02:17somewhere in the country chasing someone with a knife or something else
02:21so every day when I stand in front of them in parade I'm proud of them probably
02:24don't tell them enough but that's that's my personality I'm very proud of them
