00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 20
00:11Shows With Wardrobes That Completely Changed The Style Game.
00:19Number 20, Schitt's Creek.
00:23This Canadian sitcom follows the roses, a wealthy family who lose everything and must
00:27moved to a small rural town with nothing but the clothes on their back. Clothes that, like the
00:40roses, definitely do not fit in their new setting. Their style is more than just generic designer
00:46clothes. Each member of the family has their own distinct fashion sense. Other people don't skate
00:51through life the same way you do. I don't skate through life, David. I walk through life in really
00:57nice shoes. Johnny's always put together in a classic suit, Alexis wears flowy, festival-ready
01:03boho styles, and David dresses exclusively in bold black and white outfits. And of course,
01:09matriarch Moira Rose always stuns from her bewigged head to her toes.
01:13No, did you put Christy with Robin? They don't like each other! No!
01:18Number 19. Succession. What would you wear if you had all the money in the world?
01:22Nice vest, Womscans. It's so puffy. Thank you, Roman. What's it stuffed with? Your hopes and dreams?
01:28Oh, wow. Hiking boots. They're pristine. In Succession, the Roy family is about as wealthy
01:34as you can imagine, and they have to dress the part of the ultra-elite. This family is the epitome
01:39of quiet luxury. They'll forego bold designer-labeled outfits in favor of nondescript but expensive items,
01:45like a plain black cashmere baseball cap that retails for over $500.
01:52Honesty is such a lonely word. Everyone is so untrue.
02:02Shiv's blazers and Naomi's monochrome matching sets are highlights, but overall, this series is a lesson
02:08in subtle style. While money can't buy happiness, it certainly can buy a killer wardrobe.
02:13I don't know everything. He's with Tom and Frank and Carl.
02:19Number 18. Reign. This CW series about the life of Mary, Queen of Scots, had the tricky challenge
02:26of making a historical drama that appealed to fashion-forward teens.
02:31Lona, come dance with me. Take off your shoes. Come on, dance with me. Take off your shoes.
02:36For costuming, that meant dropping a little historical accuracy to allow more contemporary styles to sneak
02:42through. Costumer Meredith Markwork Pollack said each look had some element of authenticity,
02:47whether in the silhouette or fabric used, but there was freedom elsewhere to improvise.
02:52Which reminds me, I found a wonderful suitor for you, Greer. And there's one in Paris who's very keen
02:57to meet you, Lola.
02:58The result is basically every history-loving teen's dream prom inspo. From detailed embroidery
03:04to dramatic velvet cloaks, these costumes are eye-catching and totally unique to this show.
03:10It's a new dance from Spain. I would have invited you to do the lesson, but seeing as you don't
03:14respond to any of my invitations. Your invitations? To tea, for riding, perhaps a simple thank you for
03:19the tiara I sent you. Number 17. Scream Queens. Ryan Murphy's horror satire starring Emma Roberts and
03:25Jamie Lee Curtis was tragically short-lived, but its two seasons packed a serious fashion punch.
03:31A lot of people talk smack about how sororities are exclusive and they're a class system.
03:37Well, guess what? Life is a class system. And a sorority is the one place left in the world
03:44where you get to pick and choose the people around you.
03:48Chanel Oberlin, basically Regina George on steroids, is always dressed to the nines in pinks and pastels.
03:55This sorority is for pretty girls only. Pretty girls like you and me. Now, I have a plan to keep
04:00it that way and you're a part of that plan. Her cronies, the Chanel's, are always dressed to match.
04:06Other standouts include Jamie Lee Curtis in her chic and severe all-black fits and Kiki Palmer in
04:11literally anything. We might take a pass on Senorita Awesome's hat, but otherwise, this hysterical
04:17series had a screaming with fashion envy. This works out even better because when I go down and
04:22make peace with her and her pasty friend, I'm gonna look like a skinnier Angelina Jolie.
04:26Number 16, Friends. It's no surprise that the epitome of 90s television would also feature the
04:32epitome of 90s fashion. So, um, what's this book about? You didn't read this one either?
04:37Well, I was gonna, but I, uh, accidentally read something else. What? Vogue.
04:44High-waisted silhouettes and plenty of denim and plaid make the series feel very on-trend for the time
04:50it was made. But something about the costuming also feels somewhat timeless.
04:53Why is the air in here so negative?
04:58Rachel lost Marcel.
05:00Oh no, how? He, he pooped in my shoe.
05:02Which one? Those cute little black ones I wear all the time.
05:05The cast of Friends could easily be a group of stylish 20-somethings in the 2020s,
05:09which speaks to the eternally cool quality of the clothes they dressed in.
05:13From Rachel's preppy, Ralph Lauren style to Phoebe's bohemian looks and everything in between,
05:18Friends was the blueprint for style in the 90s and beyond.
05:22Wow, hello, you look great.
05:24Thank you. I know, though.
05:28Number 15. Emily in Paris.
05:30This series, following an American marketing executive working in the fashion capital of the world,
05:35takes great pride in being as fashion-forward as possible.
05:39Merci. Have a bonne journée.
05:41Une. Pas un. Une bonne journée.
05:44Costume designer Marilyn Fatusi takes inspiration from current trends,
05:48as well as fashion icons of the past like Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren.
05:52The resulting bold, attention-grabbing looks can certainly be controversial,
05:57but they're also undoubtedly iconic and totally unique to the show.
06:00Okay, so you take 35 and multiply by 1.8 and add 30?
06:0532. Can you please just change your phone back to Fahrenheit?
06:09I want to learn.
06:10Oh my god, it's 95 out there.
06:12It feels like 195 in here.
06:15Whenever a new season drops, brands featured prominently on the show experience a boost in sales
06:20as a result from fans aspiring to own one of Emily's famous fits.
06:24As Emily's becoming more and more confident in Paris,
06:28she's acquiring more of that je ne sais quoi Parisian chic cool factor.
06:32Number 14. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
06:35Mitch Maisel is as stylish as she is funny, which is really saying something.
06:40Wow, wow, wow!
06:42My goodness, that is a lot of khaki.
06:46And I just realized it is actually a very flattering color for most skin tones.
06:50I know you're relieved.
06:51Always presentable no matter the occasion,
06:54she's costumed in custom-made sets and is never without her matching accessories.
06:58Her clothes became part of her Mrs. Maisel stand-up persona,
07:01an elegant outward look to contrast with her typically raunchy and sometimes shocking humor.
07:06They say ambition is an unattractive trait in a woman.
07:09Maybe.
07:11But you know what's really unattractive?
07:13Waiting around for something to happen.
07:16Staring out a window thinking the life you should be living is out there somewhere
07:19but not being willing to open the door and go get it,
07:22even if someone tells you you can't.
07:24Not only is her wardrobe a vintage fashion lover's dream,
07:27but the writers of this show manage to capture Midge's passion for fashion
07:30without ever portraying her as shallow or self-obsessed.
07:34She wants to look good, and she knows good and well how to do it.
07:37Hey, buddy, is this doing anything for you?
07:40Midge.
07:40Fine, give me those back.
07:42I'll have Imogene dig up the USO shots and I'll bring them next month, okay?
07:46Thank you for your service.
07:51Mike White's suspenseful series about what the fabulously wealthy
07:54but morally corrupt get up to on vacation
07:56completely takes over the internet every time a new series is released.
08:00Beyond dissecting clues about the season's mystery,
08:11fans love obsessing over the incredible clothes
08:14these luxury-minded vacationers pack for their trips.
08:17With each season set in a new exotic location,
08:20the costuming has a distinct feel to match the style
08:22of both the characters and the setting they're in.
08:24Who could forget Tanya's loud-patterned caftans,
08:35the Ratliff's classic southern charm,
08:38or Chelsea's unique crocheted pieces?
08:40This series tells as much of a story with its fashion
08:42as it does with its writing.
08:44You're beautiful.
08:48Number 12.
08:49The Nanny.
08:50Fran Fein doesn't dress to blend in with the wealthy family she works for.
08:53She only knows how to stand out.
08:55Okay, I'm ready.
08:57How do I look?
08:58Fine, now let's go.
08:59Fine, I need gorgeous.
09:01I'm changing.
09:02Her bold and flashy outfit served as a contrast
09:04to the conservative, upper-class world she suddenly finds herself in.
09:08Fein's style is completely unique,
09:10the result of close collaboration between Fran Drescher
09:13and costume designer Brenda Cooper.
09:14May I see your resume, please?
09:16Oh yeah, sure.
09:19Crayon?
09:20Lipstick.
09:21Of course.
09:22And what a lovely shade.
09:23They were careful to ensure that Fein's outfits never came across as trashy,
09:29but instead conveyed a confident, put-together and stylish individual.
09:33Decades later, Fran Fein still serves as the ultimate fashion inspiration
09:37for anyone who isn't afraid to make a statement.
09:40Ready?
09:42How do I look?
09:44Gorgeous.
09:45Number 11.
09:47Bridgerton.
09:47Captivatingly romantic tales play out in a sea of pastels, corsets, and elaborate embroidery,
09:53making up some of the best costumes on television.
09:56I've heard a rumor that the special license you seek to marry has been denied.
10:02I'm not quite sure what you believe I am to do about it.
10:05Set in a fictionalized Regency-era England,
10:08this show's alternative history setting gives costumers the liberty to experiment with some of the fashion from that era.
10:13While empire waists, tailcoats, and parasols are all authentic nods to Regency fashion,
10:18other elements like vividly colored dresses and the total absence of bonnets are less accurate.
10:24Getting to know each other all the better.
10:27What an excellent idea, Miss Edwina.
10:29Hmm.
10:30Surely we can make an exception just this one time.
10:33We're on our private lands, after all, and who knows?
10:36Perhaps Miss Sharma can teach you a thing or two.
10:38Bridgerton's costume design combines these real and imagined fashions
10:42to help build the complex and completely original world of the series,
10:46while also creating a visually unique look.
10:48Our recipe always remains the same.
10:50Historical accuracy, fashion, art.
10:54We use the silhouette of the period, but we don't use period fabrics.
10:59We don't use period detailing.
11:02Number 10, empire.
11:04Fashion plays a central role in this hip-hop drama, and it's not a subtle one.
11:08I thought you'd be cool.
11:09So from now on, I handle and approve all things Tiana.
11:14Performances, appearances, recordings, everything.
11:17Down to her nail gel color.
11:19From cookies, bold animal prints, and plush faux fur outerwear,
11:23to Lucius's carefully curated suits accessorized with silk scarves.
11:27These characters dress to impress.
11:29Their clothing expresses their personalities,
11:31but also represents their success and the long journey it took to achieve it.
11:35Please do not withhold your blessings, even from holes that hire skanks to spy on me.
11:42In Jesus' name I pray.
11:43Amen.
11:45Hallelujah.
11:45They can afford expensive clothes, but they're careful to stay true to their unique style,
11:51even in new elevated looks.
11:53Fashion becomes a protective outer shell,
11:56a way to express individuality and command respect from those around them.
11:59Cause they can't do it like me, and they don't know why.
12:04Can't even come close, even if they tried all night.
12:08They better get right.
12:15Yeah, it's an empire.
12:18Yes, Michael, yes!
12:21Number 9, Downton Abbey.
12:23Morning, Carson.
12:24Good morning, my lord.
12:25Is it true what they're saying?
12:28Not surprising that a show about a high-class family would feature some fancy attire.
12:33Bates, no one told me you were on this train.
12:36They didn't know, m'lady.
12:38We'll give you a lift to the house.
12:40Set in the early 20th century,
12:42Downton Abbey follows the life and times of the aristocratic Crawley family,
12:46along with friends and house servants in the fictional country house of the same name.
12:50Where have you been?
12:51I'm not late, am I?
12:52You're late when I say you're late.
12:54With current events being the sinking of the Titanic and World War I.
12:58I thought it was supposed to be unsinkable.
13:00Those of higher class should only have the best wardrobe.
13:03Dazzling and elegant dresses for the ladies.
13:05Tomorrow, let's ask the servants to come up and dine with us.
13:08It'll make things easier.
13:10And striking suits for the gentlemen.
13:12Hello, Mama.
13:13Can I tempt you to one of these new cocktails?
13:15I don't think so.
13:17They look too exciting for so early in the evening.
13:21Don't you think so, class?
13:22As the series progresses, we get to see the extraordinary changes in fashion
13:26that match the changing times in 20th century Britain.
13:29That makes it all worth it.
13:31Makes what worth it?
13:33It would take too long to explain.
13:36Suffice to say, the butler is back in his box.
13:39Number 8.
13:40Ugly Betty.
13:41Hi, that's me.
13:43Um, I have a hard copy of my resume if you need it.
13:47Should I follow you?
13:48Living proof that you don't need to be a fashionista to make it big in the fashion business,
13:52Betty Suarez, your stereotypical quote, ugly girl,
13:56has surprised everyone around her by landing a job as a personal assistant
13:59at the prestigious Mode fashion magazine.
14:02Oh no, no, I work here.
14:06For?
14:08For the new editor-in-chief.
14:10With her adult braces and mismatched outfits,
14:13Betty's a fish out of water amongst her more fashionable co-workers.
14:16Get away from me, you bloated troll.
14:19But she makes up for it with her inside-out knowledge of the fashion world.
14:23She may not be a goddess in looks,
14:25but ugly Betty helps Mode and the world look a little more gorgeous.
14:29We're ready, steady, go!
14:32Number 7.
14:33Dynasty.
14:34It's always the richest families that have the most glamorous attire.
14:42Sorry, did I wake you?
14:44Dynasty is the story of Blake and Crystal Carrington,
14:47a wealthy family in the oil business,
14:49and their conflict with Blake's conniving ex-wife Alexis Colby.
14:52I didn't just come back here to sit on that stand and testify.
14:56Your father's a part of my life, it's over.
14:58When Crystal and Alexis aren't trying to claw each other's eyes out,
15:01the cast can be seen bringing style to the show with padded shoulders and power suits.
15:05If you want a rematch, just whistle.
15:09If you can.
15:11The audience fell in love with the show's fashion so much,
15:14that it inspired its own clothing collection.
15:16If the look is a little familiar,
15:17it's because you've seen them all before on Dynasty.
15:20So everyone could share the style of the incredibly popular 80s primetime soap opera.
15:25This time tomorrow, I shall own Denver Carrington.
15:28There'll be no reason for you to stay in Denver anymore.
15:31So why don't you save yourself a lot of misery and leave now?
15:34Number 6.
15:36Charlie's Angels.
15:37My name is Charlie.
15:39Once upon a time, there were three girls from the 1970s who could solve mysteries and look good doing it.
15:46Hello.
15:47It's Charlie, Angel.
15:48Time to go to work.
15:50Unsatisfied with their jobs after graduating from the police academy,
15:54three women are hired by the mysterious Charlie Townsend
15:56to serve as his Angels in private investigation.
15:59Now this will be your scene of operations.
16:02The Samara Vineyards in the Valley of the Moon.
16:04The Angels may have changed members throughout the show's run,
16:07but one thing never changed.
16:09Three gorgeous ladies in 70s apparel.
16:12Colonel Morales commands the narcotics division of the state police.
16:16His helicopter teams have already destroyed hundreds of popular marijuana fuels.
16:20With feathered hair, flared pants, and plaid to spare,
16:24these Angels are always ready to fight crime with style.
16:27They both have alibis, Jesse.
16:29Yours is blown.
16:31Let me see those photographs.
16:32No, no, no, no.
16:34And just wait until you see the collectible dolls.
16:45Yes, Charlie's Angels.
16:47Beautiful dolls.
16:48And this is Charlie's Angels, Kelly.
16:50Number 5.
16:51Pretty Little Liars.
16:53Based on the book series of the same name,
16:55Pretty Little Liars tells of four popular girls
16:57who are at the mercy of the mysterious A,
16:59an anonymous enemy who threatens to expose their darkest secrets
17:02and ruin their perfect lives.
17:04Oh my god.
17:07It's Franagone 2.
17:09I'm still here.
17:10And I know everything.
17:13A.
17:13The only secret we can reveal?
17:16What makes these little liars so stylish?
17:18The answer?
17:19Dangerously fashionable outfits with bold accessories.
17:22Hey.
17:22I thought you were playing Mona's bodyguard.
17:25Like in HBO's Girls,
17:27these four ladies also dress to match their personalities.
17:30The preppy and sophisticated Spencer,
17:32the high-fashion and glamorous Hannah,
17:34the sporty but stylish Emily,
17:36and the artsy Aria,
17:37who tends to wear the edgiest ensembles of the bunch.
17:39I need you to keep Sabrina busy while I get the key to Ezra's.
17:42Unfortunately, looking consistently chic
17:44won't help the liars catch A anytime soon.
17:47Number 4.
17:48Scandal.
17:49What?
17:51Hi, hello, how are you?
17:52Hi, hello, how are you what?
17:54They say there's power with the right outfit,
17:56and no one knows that better than Olivia Pope.
17:59What can we do for you this evening, Congressman Shaw?
18:01The thing is, my desk clock stopped.
18:02Oh, it's lucky we came to you then.
18:04Once a White House communications director,
18:06Pope has now started her own crisis management firm.
18:09We solve problems.
18:10Manage crises, save reputation.
18:12Right, of course.
18:13It's still an honor.
18:14And she and her gladiators are out to keep the secrets
18:17of the world's biggest political names.
18:19It's all about controlling the narrative.
18:21We email the footage to a bunch of friendly sources.
18:23Pope is definitely the fashion queen amongst her team,
18:26standing out the most with her black and white ensemble and white hat.
18:29Olivia Pope and her team of thugs,
18:32they're not anyone's friends.
18:34They destroyed your life.
18:36In later seasons, however,
18:37Pope tossed aside the white hat
18:39and took a step forward with new bright colors.
18:42He did it.
18:42The only question is...
18:44Is Diane's boyfriend a spy or a whistleblower?
18:47Let's get to work, people.
18:49Though her garb may change,
18:50Olivia Pope can still handle things.
18:52It's handled.
18:54Number 3.
18:55Gossip Girl
18:56Spotted at Grand Central,
18:58bags in hand,
18:59Serena Vanderwoodsen.
19:01When you're living in the Upper East Side of New York,
19:03you better look the part.
19:04The students of a girls' prep school
19:06have nothing to hide
19:07when a mysterious blogger starts reporting
19:09scandalous news about the students.
19:10So cute.
19:12They should be framed or something.
19:14Not bad work.
19:15And here's yours.
19:17As promised.
19:18Thanks.
19:19Though Gossip Girl's identity
19:20isn't revealed until the finale,
19:22what we do see is frenemies
19:23Blair Waldorf and Serena Vanderwoodsen
19:25strutting in the Upper East Side with style.
19:28Spotted.
19:29Serena making a heroic exit from Bee's party.
19:33Too bad for her there's school on Monday.
19:36Blair is the Queen Bee of the school,
19:37and her crown is a set of beautiful headbands.
19:41Spotted.
19:42S and Bee discovering the joys of filmmaking.
19:47Smile for your close-up, Juliet.
19:50Her only competition is the it girl
19:52of the Upper East Side,
19:53Serena,
19:54who can look stunning without even trying.
19:57Damn that Mother Chucker.
19:59He's totally right.
20:00I don't even like James.
20:02I was waiting for that.
20:03Number 2.
20:05Mad Men.
20:06Sometimes the old-school duds are the best duds.
20:09Something for the golf bag.
20:12That's the good stuff.
20:13Set in New York in the 1960s,
20:15Mad Men focuses on the life and drama
20:17of advertising executive Don Draper
20:19and the prestigious Sterling Cooper ad agency
20:22where he works.
20:23But everybody else's tobacco's toasted.
20:25No, everybody else's tobacco is poisonous.
20:29Lucky Strikes is toasted.
20:31Where dynasties succeeded in bringing fashion to the 80s,
20:35Mad Men succeeded in bringing 60s fashion
20:37to the 21st century
20:39by dressing Draper in the classic men's suit
20:41along with a matching fedora hat.
20:43Hi, honey.
20:44I made a roast beef.
20:46Just got the strings.
20:47All roast beef.
20:51You know it's just me tonight, right?
20:52While his female colleagues wore classy knee-length dresses.
20:55Now this is the executive floor.
20:57It should be organized, but it's not.
20:59So you'll find account executives
21:01and creative executives all mixed in together.
21:03Advertising execs have to look their best, right?
21:06Audiences agree.
21:07And Banana Republic even came out
21:08with a successful Mad Men fashion collection.

21:31is the show that Shoshana from Girls
21:32personally recommends.
21:34I'm definitely a Carrie at heart,
21:36but like sometimes...
21:37sometimes Samantha kind of comes out.
21:40It's hard to be a woman in the 90s,
21:42having to deal with the pressures
21:43of romance and sex.
21:44I've spent $40,000 on shoes
21:49and I have no place to live.
21:52I will literally be the old woman
21:55who lived in her shoes.
21:56But at least these four friends
21:58can still share a cocktail
21:59at the end of the day.
22:00Do we want another round?
22:01What do you think?
22:02Four more, please.
22:03Coming right up.
22:03These dynamic divas each have their own style
22:06that any girl can get behind.
22:08Hello, lover.
22:10Whether it's Samantha's trisexual attire,
22:12Charlotte's wealthy couture,
22:14Miranda's questionable taste,
22:16or Carrie being our narrator
22:17and actual fashionista.
22:19Carrie, you have to do it.
22:20You live for fashion.
22:22I do not live for fashion.
22:24Four charismatic friends
22:25with different styles
22:26who always have each other's backs.
22:28You look pretty.
22:30So do you.
22:31If that's not fashionable,
22:32then what is?
22:33If you want to do your patriotic duty
22:35as New York woman,
22:37you will come shopping with me
22:38right now
22:39and throw some much-needed money downtown.
22:41Which of these series
22:42makes you want to raid
22:43the costume department?
22:44Let us know in the comments.
22:46It kind of breaks it up,
22:48so it allows us to play with fashion
22:50and get away with it.
