Fans of the iconic series were hoping for a reunion filled with charm, style, and heartfelt friendships — but “And Just Like That…” missed the mark. From a jarring shift in tone to forced inclusivity, losing the essence of beloved characters, and sidelining the iconic friendships, this revival struggled to capture the magic that made the original a cultural phenomenon. Join us as we explore where things went wrong and why fans felt let down.
00:00The reality is you just inflamed a situation that was perfectly fine.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for The Ways,
00:08and Just Like That left Sex and the City fans feeling more dumped on than Carrie on a post-it.
00:12Uh-huh.
00:15Paper covers rock.
00:18Number 10. It undermines a satisfying ending.
00:21We guess the first thing we could ask here is, did we really need a Sex and the City revival or spinoff?
00:25Carrie left Petrovsky in Paris, and big fans rejoiced,
00:28but perhaps most importantly, the Fab Four were reunited.
00:32And really, isn't that what the series was all about?
00:39Four friends discussing everything under the sun over Bruncher Cosmos.
00:42It seemed like everyone had found happiness and peace on their own terms.
00:46I forgot to tell you something on the phone.
00:49I love you.
00:53You flew back to tell me that.
00:56Can you think of a better reason?
00:58No, I can't.
01:02It felt complete.
01:04Then, and Just Like That came along,
01:05and it was like someone forgot to put the lid on the blender while making those Cosmos.
01:09And don't even get us started on Samantha.
01:11Well, not yet.
01:12She's no longer with us.
01:14No, no, no, no, she didn't die.
01:16Oh, no!
01:17Oh, no, no, I'm so sorry, no.
01:18I just meant she's not with us.
01:21She's in London.
01:22Number 9.
01:23Out of Style
01:23If New York was the fifth member of the group, then fashion was definitely the sixth.
01:28You live for fashion.
01:30I do not live for fashion.
01:32How many fashion shows did you drag me to during fashion week?
01:36Eight, what's your point?
01:37The ladies often looked runway ready, and we loved picking out the outfits we dreamed of owning.
01:42Credit to the designers who tried to give us some nostalgic fashion moments,
01:45and we did notice and appreciated them more than Carrie appreciates a Manolo or Fendi baguette.
01:49But it still wasn't the same.
01:51They were after fashion.
01:52Please, sir, they're my favorite pair.
01:54I got them half price at a sample sale.
01:59We respect the costume team's focus on sustainability, and we're totally behind them on that.
02:03But without Patricia Field's signature magic, so many of the looks just felt wrong.
02:08Almost as if they didn't belong to the characters we'd spent six seasons getting to know.
02:12I remember when the internet got a hold of that outfit, and they wanted to, like, burn us at the stake.
02:19The internet wanted our heads.
02:21Number 8.
02:23Misrepresenting Aging
02:24You've probably seen the comments pointing out that the Sex and the City gang is now around the same age as the Golden Girls were when that show aired.
02:31But while the Golden Girls proudly showed that life doesn't end after 50,
02:34and just like that, can't seem to decide what it's trying to say about aging.
02:38I am not pretending to be any age. I am 55.
02:41What, you want a medal?
02:42Yes. Yes, I do. Can I get a medal?
02:45Yes, you can. And when I turn 55 in 10 years, I would like a medal as well.
02:49They could have been a mirror for the fans who grew up alongside them.
02:52But instead, it almost feels like the writers just had a getting-old-stereotypes brainstorm and then just went,
02:58yep, that'll do.
02:59I don't have time to see you. What's new?
03:01Hey, I got hearing aids. I'm an old-timer now.
03:03No, you're not.
03:04You only have 60% hearing loss in one ear and 40% in the other.
03:08Yeah, because I'm old.
03:09Also, while Sex and the City strode boldly toward all subjects of love and intimacy,
03:13now that everyone's older,
03:15and just like that handles the same territory with all the grace of a stiletto on ice.
03:20Miranda, I've fallen and I can't get up.
03:24Number 7. A Big Mistake
03:26Big's death in the pilot is basically the new,
03:29could Jack have fit on the door?
03:30Only now, it's could Carrie have saved him if she had called 911?
03:34Don't.
03:37Don't.
03:38Don't.
03:41And just like that,
03:43Big died.
03:45No matter where you land on that debate,
03:47surely you cringed when Carrie started questioning their entire relationship
03:50now that Aiden was back in the picture.
03:52We didn't sit through all that on-again, off-again drama,
03:55affairs, cold feet, and more
03:57just for Carrie to suddenly wonder if it was all one big mistake.
04:00I've been asking myself.
04:05Was Big a big mistake?
04:07The only mistake here was letting Carrie say those words out loud.
04:11Whatever your feelings were about this relationship,
04:13this felt like a massive slap in the face to longtime fans.
04:16You said you loved me.
04:19I do.
04:21And why does it hurt so f***ing much?
04:24Number 6. The Character Assassination of Samantha
04:27We've all heard the stories behind Kim Cattrall's decision not to return to the series,
04:31and honestly, fair enough.
04:32However, we cannot get behind the complete slandering of her character in the very first episode.
04:37I told her that because of, you know, what the book business is now,
04:40it just didn't make sense for me to keep her on as a publicist.
04:44She said fine and then fired me as a friend.
04:46Samantha was arguably the most supportive friend who stood by the ladies through thick and thin no matter what.
04:52So we're not buying that she ditched her friends and crossed the Atlantic
04:55just because she was in a huff with Carrie for letting her go as a publicist.
04:59Look, I understand that she was upset, but I thought I was more to her than an ATM.
05:03You are.
05:05She was embarrassed.
05:07So embarrassed she took a job and moved to London?
05:09Samantha and Cattrall seem to have taken the very essence of the show with them too.
05:13That being said, that season 2 cameo?
05:15Well, the less said about it, the better.
05:17Samantha, do you have a British accent?
05:20Who's Samantha?
05:22This is Annabelle Bronstein.
05:24I'm from Injong.
05:26Ta and Cheerio.
05:27Number five, too many woke moments.
05:30Yes, there are many important topics making headlines these days.
05:34And yes, they all deserve attention.
05:35But there's a right way to do it and this is not it.
05:38Woke moment.
05:39And yes, I know that no one person can represent all the genders and sexual orientations or an entire race.
05:46And I fully acknowledge that we are complicated, diverse beings.
05:50It almost feels like the writers scanned the daily headlines and just looked for ways to slot them into their scripts.
05:55We get that they were trying to show viewers that they had learned from their past insensitive mistakes and that they could be politically and socially relevant.
06:01They would have been better off choosing a couple of issues and giving them the due diligence they deserved.
06:18Instead, they tried a little too hard to tick all the boxes to the point that the messages just drowned in wokeism.
06:24What do you think was going on with you?
06:26I think I was just so worried about saying the wrong thing in this climate that I said all the wrong things.
06:32I'm sure you didn't say all the wrong things.
06:34You're right.
06:35I'll probably blurt out some new ones tomorrow.
06:37Number four, making characters former shells of themselves.
06:41We never expected everyone to be frozen in time.
06:43But this?
06:44Carrie has lost the voice that was once so pivotal to the series.
06:47Charlotte is basically a parody of herself and Miranda don't even.
06:51Why are you running away from me?
06:53Why do you think?
06:54Because I saw myself and heard myself and now I want to get as far away from here as possible.
06:59The smart, cynical lawyer we loved wouldn't recognize this bumbling stranger.
07:03Even Stanford, Anthony, and poor Steve got dragged through the reboot Shredder.
07:06You know, you got me so freaking distracted when you're yelling at me about the squash guy who left my wallet over with a pickle guy who used to be over in that corner.
07:17I gotta go get it.
07:19Really nice to meet you, Professor, all right?
07:21Oh, sorry.
07:22And the new characters fare no better.
07:24It often feels like they're essentially there to fill a quota without being given the depth they deserve.
07:29It's like they've been written by someone who never watched Sex and the City and had just skimmed some character bios online.
07:34Everything that made us root for the OGs was gone.
07:37And we're still mad about it.
07:39Women apologize to the whole world all day long for everything.
07:44Tennis is the one place that I don't have to do that.
07:48So as Demi Lovato would say, sorry, not sorry.
07:53Number three.
07:53Box ticking diversity and inclusivity.
07:55We all know that in Just Like That desperately needed to atone for some of Sex and the City's crimes in this field.
08:01And no one can say they didn't try.
08:03Oh, no.
08:05What?
08:07Everyone I've invited is vanilla.
08:10The Wexleys can't be the only black couple at the dinner.
08:14They're gonna think we don't have any black friends.
08:16Why don't you just ask the Jenkins in 4C?
08:18The Jenkins, yes!
08:20Yes, it's great that they started in the writer's room, but somehow they still managed to trip over nearly every hurdle.
08:27Characters like Seema, Lisa, and Naya only seem to exist as sounding boards for the white cis leads or as vehicles for the writer's forced wokeism.
08:34My comment had nothing whatsoever to do with it being a black hairstyle.
08:38I knew that you were black when I signed up for this class.
08:40That was important to me.
08:43You signed up for this class because I'm black?
08:46Then there was Che.
08:48Oh, Che.
08:49Poor Che.
08:49They could have done wonders for non-binary representation and indeed been super pivotal in Rock's coming out journey.
08:55But instead, they were just insufferable.
08:58What we have here is textbook tokenism over substance.
09:01Walking boomer joke that felt so fake to me.
09:05Just some phony, sanitized, performative, cheesy ass, dad joke,
09:13version of what the non-binary experience is.
09:17It sucked.
09:20Number two, misjudging the tone.
09:22One of the greatest appeals of Sex and the City was how easily it made fans feel like part of the Fab Four.
09:27Excuse me.
09:28I was wondering if you like to dance.
09:32Oh, well, thanks, but tonight is just us girls.
09:35Okay, maybe not the white, heteronormative, living beyond your mean side,
09:39but the conversations about life, love, work, and everything in between.
09:43They said out loud what most of us would barely whisper.
09:46Sweetheart, this is the first time in the history of Manhattan that women have had as much money and power as men.
09:52Plus, the equal luxury of treating men like sex objects.
09:55It seems like the and just like that writers decided that the tone was far too idealistic and took a sharp left turn.
10:01Out went the fun and fabulous escapism.
10:04In came midlife crises, public service announcements, and absolutely no flow between characters.
10:09Essentially, they went from strutting down Fifth Avenue in Manolo's to cautiously tiptoeing through Times Square in orthopedic flats.
10:15And wants me to meet her in Times Square.
10:18Sorry.
10:20The M&M story, Times Square.
10:23Oh, Miranda, you're strong, but you can't come back from that.
10:26Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
10:32You have the option to be notified for occasional videos or all of them.
10:36If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings and switch on notifications.
10:42Number 1.
10:43Whatever happened to soulmates?
10:44Perhaps the central love story in Sex and the City was the one between the core four.
10:49Maybe we could be each other's soulmates.
10:53And then we could let men be just these great, nice guys to have fun with.
10:58They showed us the power of chosen family.
11:00And how the right people can help you survive just about anything.
11:03Say what you want about the series, but their bond was enviable and the heart of the show.
11:07Go back to your people. We'll talk about this later.
11:10You are my people and we'll talk about it now.
11:12And just like that, arguably chooses a more realistic angle, where the ladies no longer have time for constant brunches.
11:18However, it also lets that central friendship fade into the background.
11:22I just don't want to focus group this.
11:24Listen, you brought it up.
11:26And we talk about everything, so you can't just suddenly change the rules.
11:29That's true. We should probably take a vote, but it will never pass the Senate.
11:33With Samantha gone and everyone facing personal problems, that easy camaraderie is missing.
11:38And the new characters don't quite make up for it.
11:40It's lost the intimacy and support that made the original's friendships unforgettable.
11:45Well, we made a deal ages ago.
11:48Men, babies, doesn't matter.
11:50We're soulmates.
11:52We couldn't help but wonder, what's disappointed you the most as a Sex and the City fan?
11:56Let us know in the comments.
11:57Because if you see something, you have to speak on it.
