New Delhi July 03 2025 (ANI): Brazil’s Ambassador to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nóbrega, hailed PM Modi’s upcoming Brazil visit as a milestone amid rapidly growing business ties, noting over 100 business missions exchanged in under two years. On defence cooperation, he highlighted potential deals including India’s Akash systems, patrol vessels, and collaboration on Scorpène-class submarines, with both countries working together on maintenance and technology sharing. On PM Modi's visit to Brazil, Ambassador of Brazil to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nóbrega said, "...This visit is taking place in unprecedented times of booming business relations... In less than two years, we had 72 business missions from Brazil to India and 40 plus from India to Brazil, focusing on trade, investment and technology...We are looking forward to a very good visit"On Defence cooperation between India and Brazil, Ambassador of Brazil to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nóbrega said, "...There is a possibility of India selling Akash systems to Brazil, patrol vessels, concluding a memorandum of understanding on managing the so called Scorpène-class submarine because Brazil also has bought French Submarines...The two countries are also combining their expertise in the area of maintenance..."
00:00...to deepen the India-Brazil strategy partnership, but specific areas such as renewable energy defense or agriculture research,
00:08do you see as a key priorities for the collaboration during this visit?
00:12And how can we see strengthening the ties between the two nations first on the visit?
00:18How do you look at it?
00:19Yes, well, in a few hours I'm flying to Rio, my native city.
00:22Well, I think that this visit is taking place in unprecedented times of booming business relations.
00:31Just to give you one figure, in less than two years we had 72 business missions from Brazil to India,
00:40and I think 40 plus from India to Brazil, and all focusing on trade investment and technology.
00:48So the critical mass to boost the relation is there.
00:52And there is the political will, also, to keep that relation moving to another stage, another level.
01:01So we are really looking forward to a very good visit.
01:05Talking about the GRICS Summit, standing Global South Corporation for Inclusive and Brazil has a host plan to leverage this summit
01:12to advance the priorities of the Global South.
01:14And what does you envision for India under its upcoming BRICS chairmanship as well?
01:20Well, Brazil and India have been traditionally coordinating, you know, in multilateral fora, also in BRICS and IPSA.
01:29So since we have already always coordinated based on common values and, to a larger extent, also on common interests
01:39and also perceptions of the world, we see Brazil paving the way for a very good and excellent BRICS president,
01:53as Indian BRICS presidency, at least as good and as brilliant as your G20 presidency.
02:01Great.
02:01So, moving on.
02:03The BRICS Summit does the use of national currencies in the trade.
02:07How does Brazil view India's stance on enhancing intra-BRIC trade?
02:12And what steps can be taken to boost the bilateral relationship between India and Brazil since that is not the other plan?
02:18No, you are saying, no, no, just adding to my last answer.
02:24You know, these business missions I have mentioned are already producing very tangible results.
02:31There is a number of recent announcements of Brazilian investments in India and Indian investments in Brazil.
02:39Here, Embraer has just arrived in India, establishing a full-fledged office in AeroCity.
02:48Embraer, a large Brazilian company of compressors, has announced a $120 million investment in Maharashtra.
02:56So, these are two examples.
02:57And India, of course, your FDI stocks is larger than ours here.
03:05It's Mahindra, it's TCS, it's Bajaj, Hero Motor Corp, UPL, you name it.
03:12The boom is already happening, you see.
03:16And our leaders, when Honorable Prime Minister Modi was in Brazil for the G20, President Lula and Prime Minister Modi set a goal of achieving a $20 billion trade exchange.
03:32So, I think this is going to be even more reinforced now.
03:35Interesting.
03:36You have been vocal about the reforming of the global governance as well, like global governance structures.
03:43What is Brazil's perspective on aligning with India as to push for changes in the institution like United Nations Security Council during the big summit discussion?
03:52Because everybody has been talking about this.
03:54What's your take?
03:55Yes, no, I think that we are here, again, we are at one in pushing for the reform of the Security Council of its membership and also work methods of work so that it will reflect the realities of multipolarity.
04:13The realities of having now big emerging countries accounting for a sizable part of world GDP.
04:23So, I think this will be one of the Brazilian priorities for sure.
04:28And you have mentioned local currency in your previous question.
04:32Brazil is working also to offer a good option within BRICS of trade in local currencies and also developing perhaps new payment platforms.
04:44To offer a BRICS membership another option of doing business, expanding possibilities of doing business.
04:52This is not about aiming at de-dollarization.
04:56It's about offering other options.
04:58Regarding the UBS, as you said about the digital payment and collaborations, we can expect in future as well.
05:04Digital payment or the digital stack of India has been quite talked about.
05:07So, anything, any collaboration we can expect?
05:10Well, I think Brazil, in this case, has much to learn from India.
05:14Brazil has also put in place a payment like UPI, which is called PICS.
05:19But when it comes to the digital government, I think India is more advanced than in Brazil.
05:26And we have a lot to learn because we also have federal structure, as we do have.
05:32So, how you have just combined, from the technological point of view and from the legal point of view,
05:41the relation between digital governments at the federal level, at the state level, at the local level.
05:46So, here we stand to learn from India, really.
05:49We have seen both leaders meeting in B20 last year.
05:53Now it's the PICS summit.
05:55How does this help in India-Brasil relationship?
05:59How does it help in strengthening India-Brasil relationship, meeting the good leaders in the B20?
06:05Yes.
06:05Again, in Africa?
06:06No, I think it's strengthened because the leaders meet, again, as a historical background of a long relation for most 80 years.
06:17And throughout this almost 80 years, I see much trust has been built.
06:23So, I think two big democracies, two of the largest world democracies, making their imprint together in BRICS.
06:33You touched upon the aviation collaboration.
06:36Any defense collaboration which we can also expect between India and Brazil, if you can...
06:40Yes.
06:41I think there have been, of course, when you talk about defense cooperation, this is discussed with a lower profile.
06:50But, as you have seen on the press, you know, there is a possibility of India, of India selling cash systems to Brazil,
07:03petrol vessels, concluding a memorandum of understanding on managing the so-called Scorpene submarines, French submarines,
07:12because Brazil also has bought French submarines, as you know.
07:15So, the idea of the two countries also combining their expertise in the area of maintenance.
07:23And from our side, you see Embraer coming to India and having, I think, reasonable expectations to set here a very good presence,
07:34which will be beneficial to both countries, I think.
07:38This was the last question.
07:39And, of course, the COP30.
07:42Yes.
07:42Brazil will be re-hosting the COP30 later in 2025.
07:46Climate action is a key focus.
07:48How can India and Brazil collaborate on climate financing and sustainable development initiative
07:53during the BRICS summit to address these global challenges?
07:57Yeah, you know, in Indian presidency of G20, your presidency tasked a group of 10 multilateral banks
08:06to come up with ideas on how to adapt traditional financing, financial mechanisms to the needs of climate financing,
08:16how the multilateral banks can help, can work more in synergy to help boost climate financing for the global south.
08:27Brazil took the cue.
08:29We further developed your ideas of your G20 presidency.
08:33And we are hoping that the BRICS will also contribute to this discussion leading to COP30.
08:39So this is an idea of pulling a thread of thinking, a thread of studies and reflection in order to see if we can reach COP30
08:51with new avenues of financing.
08:55Because climate change fighting, it's to a large extent about financing.
09:00Not only, you know, but to a large extent.
09:03I can speak more about the leaders, the relationship between the leaders and how it boosts the relationship between the two countries.
09:12How do you look at President Abdullah and Prime Minister Modi's bonds and how it has ushered the relationship between the two countries?
09:18Oh, yeah.
09:19I think there are two important leaders of the global south with clear, strong views about the evolving geopolitical landscape.
09:28And again, we see a synergy of thinking in terms of boosting the importance of the global south countries and also reinforcing multipolarity.
09:42So I'm looking forward to a very good state visit.
