00:00as it should be a bit like the last fight this is an interesting fight to
00:11take on debut for Samadova as it was for Mustafaev because Akunda Barma
00:17Zandarani is an experienced fighter one in IBA pro that I mentioned in Dubai
00:22last year but 11 in pro boxing outside of that she's boxed in China, Ukraine,
00:28Belarus, Russia, Bangladesh, Thailand she's gone wherever the fights have taken her
00:34and she's nice and busy most of the time and she's gonna have to work hard here
00:38Samadova who comes out in that southpaw stand she's boxing in the white Akunda
00:42Barma Zandarani in the black yep ambitious fight for Samadova to take you know
00:50you know opening debut in the IBA ranks against a very experienced fighter in
00:57Akunda who's been there seen that done it she's got a lot of experience
01:02interesting contest this one Samadova just creeping in with that front foot
01:07right hand that lead hand low see lots of southpaws in international elite and it's a
01:17boxing Samadova started this round very well she's controlling the space well and
01:24pushing Akunda into the corner and not allowing her to control anything in there
01:29at the moment this is impressive stuff here from Samadova she's just maneuvering her
01:35opponent around the ring isn't she just using that front foot quite a wide stand so the
01:41front foot will feel like it's all over Akunda Barma Zandarani deep the referees
01:45just having a quick word with her there puts you under pressure straight away doesn't it
01:49that front foot's just in your space well I can't tell you that that lead left hook
01:54there after the referee called breaks she was very fortunate not to get more punished for
01:58that Samadova to her credit soaked it up and just got on with the job controlling things again
02:06here Samadova pinning Akunda into that corner and this is the difference here Andy that she's
02:11controlling this space and making Akunda work when she doesn't really want to work and she's
02:18controlling that space and that's the difference between these two at the moment
02:20maybe just shutting your own space down the touch at time Samadova if you were to be
02:28hypercritical because as you say she's marshalling her opponent back onto the ropes into the corners
02:34and possibly when she gets there it's just slightly over eager and not giving herself quite enough room but a good opening round
02:42yeah and Samadova controlled that and she controlled that round with her feet there she was utilising the space very well
02:49controlling the space and Akunda I think was a little bit surprised by that surprised by her strength
02:54and her physical presence and Akunda was being allowed to be pinned into the corners pinned into the ropes and she was waiting for Samadova
03:03Samadova was not really doing too much like I say she was controlling the space with her feet but now needs to start building on that now
03:11letting her hands go throwing those punches in punches because that's going to be the difference here between the
03:16winning and winning and loser is the person that gets those hands going and letting those shots go
03:22Samadova staying on her feet in between rounds
03:27So into the second Samadova just wandering in a little bit behind the left hander the back foot came round slightly
03:52Samadova
03:57Samadova boxing out of that southpaw stance and she's getting off for those shots first
04:02She's completely through with the one-two again there
04:05and Akunda is really struggling with the style here
04:09maybe the southpaw style of Samadova because she's not getting off first shots
04:14and she doesn't look particularly comfortable in there at the moment
04:17No she doesn't I think that's I think that's a very accurate assessment
04:21and just a few seconds ago she did try to move in but as she was moving in
04:25Samadova just took that half step back took her feet out and
04:29Akunda Bama Zandarani was just stuck in no man's land and
04:32eight two or three shots not massive punches but
04:36they were accurate enough
04:38Yep you only have to read the body language of the two here and Samadova controlling that space again so so well
04:44but you can see a little spring in her step here
04:47and for Akunda she needs to start doing something a little different
04:50getting off of her shots first getting her lead foot on the outside of Samadova
04:55because that's going to make a big difference as well
04:58And she went for that right hand there Akunda Bama Zandarani stepped in with it
05:02but landing that right hand up against the southpaw if she pulls her weight onto that back foot
05:08could be a difficult thing to do look for it again there and just got caught nowhere really
05:11and on the end of a counter attack
05:14Yep just half-heartedly throwing it that's why she's holding her feet not stepping in with the shots
05:18you've got to commit yourself there you've got to have confidence in your own ability
05:21you've got to let those shots go
05:23referee just taking Akunda back to the corner here to get the hair fixed or the hair banned
05:28which can be very annoying as well
05:31corner just making sure they tie that nice and tight
05:38gets both fighters a little bit of a breather
05:41it's always hot up in that ring but in this kind of indoor venue
05:44it's been heating up during the day when you get that lighting rig up
05:48I think the temperature above us is pretty lively
05:52final few seconds of round two
05:54there goes the belt
05:59yep another dominant round there from Samadova who's really fancying this
06:04she walks back to the corner bouncing up and down on her toes
06:07former world cruiserweight champion there
06:09Johnny Nelson he's looking on
06:11he looks quite impressed there as well
06:14but yeah good performances so far from Samadova
06:17and Akunda really has to do something different here
06:21she looks a little disheartened in the corner
06:24the corner are trying to work her up
06:26trying to pump her up
06:27and they're going to need to because
06:29she's falling behind there big time in those opening two rounds
06:33Andy
06:34not committing with her work
06:36holding her feet and that is going to be a big problem
06:39and Samadova what a debut so far
06:42round three
06:57so the start of the third
07:00Michikonis Amadova in the white
07:03Pune, Akunda Barma, Zandarani in the black
07:06two minute rounds
07:08that slip by it's the endless debate
07:10two minutes or three minutes in the pros
07:14it does need you would say some kind of regulation
07:18but the situation as it stands is that
07:21whoever's promoting the event
07:23requests either two or three minute rounds
07:25from the governing body
07:27sanctioning body whose auspices the fight is being put on under
07:30so the British Boxing Board of Control for example
07:33in the UK or the State Commission in the US
07:35the Turkish Boxing Federation here
07:37and they then decide whether they're going to grant three minute rounds
07:40if they are requested
07:42it's three minutes in the amateurs
07:44so you come out of the elite international amateurs
07:46and you're used to boxing three threes
07:48and then you go to two minutes
07:49it's kind of strange isn't it really?
07:51Yep it really is
07:52I think the three twos
07:53the two minute rounds sorry
07:55for women does work
07:56I like it
07:57they haven't got time to settle
07:59so the pace
08:00the tempo's much higher
08:01and I've got to tell you
08:03Akunda
08:04caught Samadova just moments ago
08:06on the back of the head
08:07she really wasn't happy
08:08and since that happened
08:09that shot landed
08:10Samadova's really picked it up
08:12and you can see the spike
08:13in her shots there
08:14and the tempo has definitely changed here
08:16from Samadova
08:17really just set her feet to the near side just now
08:20and looks to heave that left hand in
08:22just sticks out that lead
08:25right hand there Samadova
08:28that's a nice right as well
08:30she just kind of popped off the shoulder
08:32walks in behind the straight left hand
08:36kick in behind the straight right hand
08:49in behind the straight left hand
08:51good shots again there from Samadova
08:52just taking that half a step back
08:53creating that space and leading off
08:54with hook cross hook
08:55good work there
08:58and another round that hasn't gone
08:59the way of Akunda
09:00another round that hasn't gone the way
09:01and another round that hasn't gone the way
09:03another round that hasn't gone the way
09:04have to do something here, Samadova, for me, taking those opening three rounds and just, you know,
09:10controlling things, first of the shot, better shot selection, controlling the space, and for someone
09:15like Akunda, who has that wealth of experience, great amateur pedigree as well, you know, been in
09:21this IBA ranks for some time as well, you just like to see her change something now, because you
09:27just feel that she's got the ability to be able to do that, but we're not seeing it right now.
09:31Really, she's just got to have a bit more conviction, have the courage of her conviction to
09:37gamble a little bit here, I think Akunda Barba's Andorani, because what she's doing is, as you said
09:42before, it's a bit half-hearted, so she'll launch an attack, but then only gets halfway there, Samadova
09:49can take those feet out and catch her on the way in, and then she's wary of that, so she's just gone
09:54into a shell, basically, but she needs to gamble a bit here, she needs to try and get on the board and
09:58win this fourth round, easy for me to say from sat down here, but she needs to try and bring a more
10:04consistent level of attack, she just came in with her feet there, caused her opponent to retreat,
10:08and at that point she needs to go again.
10:09Yep, spot on analysis there, that's exactly what she needs to do, and again, Samadova is the one
10:17that's landing the cleanest shots, why is she landing the cleanest shots? Because she's throwing them a split
10:22second before Akunda, and that is the difference between these two at the moment, boxing well out
10:28of that southpaw stance, Akunda doesn't look comfortable boxing a southpaw here either, because
10:33she seems to have run out of ideas, Samadova holding the centre of the ring, and you see the hands down
10:38low, now the reason she's got those hands down is because she's trying to draw the lead of Akunda there,
10:43and then she's going to step back, make her pay.
10:46Okay, so the referee is having a, well, they're going to have to sort out that hairband
10:51again there, just trying to pull it down tight
10:54over the top of the head and keep that under control. What I would like to see from Samadova a
11:01bit more is, you can see how much she likes that left hand, and she almost throws it like a single
11:06left, doesn't she? A left hand lead quite often, or just comes in behind the jab there, like she did,
11:11where the jab is just, it's a way in, isn't it? But she maybe just shuts down her space a bit,
11:16it'd be good to see if she could just throw it really nice and loose straight down the middle
11:20like a normal one-two. Absolutely, but the problem is, is when she throws that backhand, Samadova,
11:25she falls in with her back foot a bit, you watch her feet as she lets her right hand, um, sorry,
11:30the left hand go, and her back foot follows the shot in as well, so she's not got the space to get off
11:35with any other shot, so I wanted to see her holding her feet a little bit after she throws that one-two,
11:40holding her feet and letting the combinations flow. We need a little bit of fluidity around
11:44the work, not just the one-twos, because, you know, a boxing control and everything is spot-on,
11:50you know, good foot movements, she draws the leads well, boxes out of that southpaw stance,
11:55you know, showing great IQ, but those little things are going to make a huge difference.
12:00So, into the closing stages, it's another round that Samadova has won.
12:04Akunda Barmazandarani has brought a bit more in this round, I think, though, good head movement there from her,
12:10but it's not going to be enough to, to win the round as the bell goes, so four down here, two to go.
12:14And, Akunda has just walked back to that corner, and I tell you, I'm going to have to do a good job here,
12:21because she looks very disheartened, four rounds down, and she's been on the end of some heavy punishment,
12:28one of the corner men just jumping up in the corner as well, and they're going to have to really gear her up here,
12:33Andy, because it's not going to weigh her at all, just trying to fix the headband again there, I think, at the moment,
12:41but, yeah, it's been a tough, tough night for Akunda, and at 37 years of age,
12:46you don't really want to be on the end of that sort of punishment.
12:50Well, two rounds to go, so the finishing tape is in sight for her here,
12:54and I think that's what they might be telling her in the corner.
12:58She can just navigate this one, then you're going to get through the final round,
13:02aren't you, probably, because you're near enough that you can see it.
13:12Having said that, on the other side of the ring, it would be good to see Samadova try and click through the gears a bit here,
13:18maybe just relax and loosen up a bit.
13:21She is quite rigid, a little bit muscular in the way that she throws the punches,
13:28she tends to heave them in a little bit, force them slightly.
13:31Good jab left-hand there, though, got good distance on that one.
13:34Yep, just loading up those shots, maybe a little bit too much if you're going to try and, you know,
13:38pick any forks in her performance, which has been a very good one so far.
13:42You go a little bit of constructive criticism, just relax, let them flow.
13:46You know, the idea is right, look, hands down by the side, you control that space, leaning back off the shots.
13:58Okunda is pinned on them ropes against, doesn't really want to be there.
14:02That was better work off the ropes from Okunda.
14:05Okunda is pinned on them ropes against, doesn't really want to be there.
14:17Again, the jab just lands on the face there of Okunda bomber Zandarani,
14:21the corner full of encouragement for us.
14:24We head into the second minute of round five.
14:27As you've been saying, and I think you're absolutely right with Sam Madova, there's some good tools there.
14:36It's just that little bit of fluidity.
14:39There's that left hand, the perfect example of what you were talking about before.
14:42Falling in with the back foot after that shot, losing her balance and not being able to throw anything off that back hand
14:47because she's closed her space down.
14:49That's exactly what it is. Minor adjustments.
14:52And, you know, the foundations are definitely there.
14:55Those silly little mistakes she's making is not allowing her to set up for phase two
15:02and putting those combinations together.
15:08And it's all about that day in, day out drilling in the gym
15:12because some things are quite hard worn into fighters
15:15and it can take a while for them to snap out of that kind of habit.
15:20But getting that back foot anchored to the floor and sitting down on your punches as we describe it,
15:26that's a big, big part of professional boxing.
15:29We both watched Lauren Price a lot during her pro career and in the early stages,
15:33that back foot used to come round and she's so fast that it didn't really matter.
15:37But as she went up in the levels a couple of fights later, you just noticed that that back foot was anchored
15:42and it just made such a difference.
15:44Yeah, 100%, again, a great analogy there, looking at Lauren Price and what she was doing.
15:50She now holds her feet and she controls that space so well.
15:54You know, use that Natasha Jones performance as an example.
15:58She dominated that fight.
15:59She found her range and she held her feet, let the combinations go.
16:03Now, for someone like Samadova, I would advise her to go and watch someone like Lauren Price
16:08and say, listen, that's what you need to be doing.
16:10Throw your punches in punches, fours and fives.
16:12And why does she do that?
16:13Because she's allowed to do that because she's created her own space.
16:17So into the sixth and final round and Akunda Barma's Andorani just coming off her stall there.
16:22She's been feeling this, this ten minutes that she's boxed so far.
16:25But as we were saying, that finishing line is now in sight for her.
16:29Samadova with some decent footwork, just landing the jab a couple of times
16:33as she was on the way out.
16:41Yep, just a little spring in her step again here.
16:44Samadova, she knows the finish line's quite near.
16:47She'll feel that she's in a comfortable lead.
16:50And Akunda, although she needs to do something different,
16:54we'll talk about throwing the kitchen sink and all of that.
16:57But sometimes when your opponent doesn't allow you to do that,
17:00it's easier said than done.
17:02Yeah, that's a good point.
17:03It is really easy to say that somebody just needs to be more aggressive
17:07and try and make more happen.
17:08But if every time you do that, then your opponent manages to find an answer,
17:13then it's not actually that wise a thing to do, particularly this stage of the fight.
17:17She's not going to win this fight.
17:18She has to get a knockout now to win this fight.
17:20And there's been no evidence that that is on the table.
17:23Well, you know, you get a lot of people saying like in certain fights,
17:27certain situations, well, he's got to roll the dice now
17:29or she's got to roll the dice now.
17:31Why didn't they do that?
17:32You go, because they're not allowed to do it.
17:34There's a difference.
17:35You can't just go in there and go, all right, let's just go for it
17:37because you're going to get yourself knocked clean out ice cold.
17:41That's why they don't do it because they want to finish a fight on their feet.
17:45And I think that this is a prime example here.
17:47Sam Dover has controlled this space.
17:49She's come in as a deputy and she's controlled the space really well against a very experienced opponent.
17:55It's a great debut here and she'll be pleased with herself and there'll be things to work on.
18:00And she's going to be one to watch in the future for sure.
18:03And she's handled the six rounds very comfortably too.
18:06When you're dictating terms, which she has been, then that certainly makes things easier.
18:10But she looks like she could do three, four more of these.
18:13And in female pro boxing, it is possible, of course, to move quickly.
18:19Those durations are not the same.
18:22And there goes the final bell.
18:24And that's a good performance from Sam Dover, as we've been saying.
18:27There are some technical flaws to be ironed out there, but pretty much everybody has those early in a career.
18:32But as Debbie's go, I think she could be very pleased with it.
18:38Absolutely.
18:39You know, Debbie's always horrible.
18:41I know she's a wealth of experience.
18:43I did as an amateur.
18:44My debut as a professional was a very frustrating one.
18:47Didn't enjoy that at all.
18:49I had a guy that had a wealth of experience and just ran away and made life very difficult for me.
18:54But Sam Dover there, she was in against a class operator and she dealt with it and she boxed well.
19:00Yeah, there were minor faults, but overall that was a brilliant performance and one that she'll want to remember for sure.
19:07She's getting that rope back on.
19:15Niamana from Niamana Zandorani getting un-gloved in the black corner.
19:19She got through to the final bell.
19:21But I think she'll find herself on the scoreline of six rounds in favour of Sam Dover and not in her column, I'm afraid.
19:34But I'm sure we'll see her again.
19:36Plenty of work for fighters who are prepared to travel.
19:40Ladies and gentlemen, after the end of action, your winner by unanimous decision from the cold corner,
19:50mid corner, Sam Dover!
19:55Touching this time!
19:59So it's nice to remember for Sam Dover, you only get one pro debut.
20:04And great to have it on a stage like this with the other fighters on the card and the people in the crowd watching on.
20:14And I'm sure that a place will be far.
