During debate on the House floor, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) ripped into House Republicans over the Big Beautiful Bill.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Speaker, I never want to hear the Republicans lecture about fiscal responsibility again.
00:06The last president to actually balance this budget was Bill Clinton.
00:11And today, Bob Rubin and Larry Summers wrote an op-ed in the New York Times that every
00:16American should read.
00:18Their budget will take the deficit up to 8% of GDP.
00:23It is historically unprecedented in the history of our country during peacetime.
00:27We've never had a more reckless deficit-exploding bill than what they're posing.
00:33The Democrats have a proposal to bring the deficits back down under 4%.
00:39Bob Rubin and Larry Summers were the last ones who've done it.
00:42Hakeem Jeffries is leading with a sensible proposal to lower deficits.
00:46If you care about debt in this country, if you care about our grandkids being burdened
00:51with debt, if you care about a bond market devastation, then you need to recognize that this bill hurts
00:57America and you need to support the democratic plan for deficit reduction.
01:02Thank you, Mr. Chair.
