00:06as part of the government's efforts to boost food security and livelihood.
00:10Arnoel Talacay reports.
00:14Weeding the garden and securing the vegetables and fruits planted there are healthy and parasite-free.
00:21Arjanice Deli Tours as one of the beneficiaries of the community garden in Barangay San Isidro, Municipality of San Luis, Pampanga.
00:31She says that the garden helps her save money from buying food for her family.
00:36Matitipid po na pambili ng ulam na dapat pambibili, pwede na pong pambayad ng project ng anak ko.
00:42She also one of the 150 beneficiaries who helped create the garden in 20 days.
00:48That's why she and her co-beneficiaries received P10,000 as part of the cash-for-work program of the Department of Social Welfare Development or DSWD,
00:58which she says helped her provide for the school needs for her children as one of her major concerns as a single mom.
01:06Actually, before po kasi mag-school, sinakto po nilang bagong mag-school.
01:12Doon po nila binigay yung sakto pong mag-school.
01:15Pinambili po ng gamit ng pang ano ka bonso po.
01:17The community garden is the DSWD's lawa and binhi project.
01:22The secretary visited the site this morning to ensure the project is in proper operation and serving its purpose.
01:29Ito yung proyekto namin, yung lawa at binhi, kung saan ang sa utos ng ating Pangulo,
01:34lagi niya sinasabi na kailangan may sapat na pagkain sa hapag ng bawat pamilang Pilipino.
01:38These are eggplants, one of the fruits being planted here in the community garden of Barangay San Isidro, municipality of San Luis, Pampanga.
01:49The eggplant fruits will soon be harvested that will bring food to the table of the beneficiaries or will serve as their livelihood.
01:57The program also aims to provide food security and livelihood.
02:02It also, a disaster risk reduction initiative, since the lake near the garden will provide irrigation and be subject to regular cleaning to prevent from flooding.
02:11Very fertile ang land dito. Kasi catch basin siya.
02:15So every year, whatever you plant, kung magsasabog ka man ng mga pesticides, nalilinis po siya ng baha at tubig.
02:21So nawawala po.
02:22And then the water brings with it new soil po from the mountain.
02:26There are also ladyfingers, bitter gourds, water spinach, papayas, tomatoes, and chile planted in the community.
02:34According to the DSWD, there are 2,800 community gardens all over the country.
