02 July - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Wednesday morning which is less hot across central and southeastern areas of England where we saw heatwave conditions extend into Tuesday. The jet stream is covering most of the UK with fresher weather towards the northwest and hanging on to the heatwave across the near continent down towards Iberia as well as central parts of the Mediterranean.
00:22Now through the next few days we will see some showers in the mix, in fact some showers this morning as well, but there will be some fine weather around particularly across central and southern parts of the country. Through Thursday this weather front here will bring an increasing chance of some showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland with some rain waiting in the wings across the northwest as we head through to Friday.
00:44All in all though, through this morning, brighter skies across western Scotland, a few showers, more clouds across eastern Scotland with some showery bits and pieces extending down towards eastern counties of England and even the North Midlands.
00:56Now for Northern Ireland it's a fine start with some sunshine, a bit fresh in places towards the northwest and you can see a few showers just lurking across Irish seacoast but for Wales yes you'll see some sunshine down towards the west country.
01:08Thicker cloud from the midlands eastwards and some showers here, showery bursts which actually could clip eastern counties through the morning.
01:17This rain here is heavy in places, fairly sporadic but it's blossoming all the while with the chance of thunder.
01:24So through the morning this batch of cloud will erode on its western edge and we'll find that a lot of the showery rain will clear towards the North Sea.
01:32In its wake, sunshine and showers but some of the showers could turn heavy particularly across the north as well as the west, some fine weather across much of England and Wales as this rain becomes just confined to the far east coast through the afternoon.
01:46Temperatures then were a lot lower across the southeast but still 26 Celsius, generally speaking it would be the high teens if not the low 20s so pleasantly warm in any sunny breaks.
01:56So that's the picture today, certainly a ridge just affecting things from the west through this evening and overnight, the last of that showery rain clears, any showers dying away.
02:07But notice towards the west, we saw that front on the chart earlier, this will bring the chance of some showers across western Scotland as the winds pick up a little strength, clipping the far north and west of Northern Ireland.
02:17A clear night elsewhere but much more comfortable to sleep towards the southeast with temperature around 13 degrees Celsius through the early hours of Thursday morning and a fine day with some sunshine here.
02:28Now for Scotland and Northern Ireland, a rash of showers moves in.
02:31We could just see them clipping the far north of Northumberland as well as Cumbria, heavier pulses always towards the west with that brisk wind.
02:38Here are your temperatures then through Thursday, 19 or 20 generally, 21, 22 for Wales, 26 down towards the southeast, 23 along the east coast helped with that sunshine.
02:49A lighter breeze across England and Wales but a fairly keen one towards the north as well as the west.
02:54The wind will pick up further through Friday.
02:56First of all, that showery rain clears.
02:59The cloud thickens again into Friday morning with some outbreaks of rain.
03:02Yet again, it's really England and Wales seeing the best of any brighter weather with some sunshine as the rain becomes more intense through the afternoon across Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, much of Scotland and perhaps just clipping the far northwest of England.
03:15Here, temperatures 18 or 19 degrees Celsius but they are climbing towards the south as well as the southeast, 24 to perhaps even 28 degrees Celsius.
03:23So wherever you are, yes, generally speaking, the weather is fairly showery, particularly in the north, fine conditions further south and temperatures on the up again through Friday.
03:32I'll see you later.
