With busy travel days leading up to Independence Day and then the big day itself, how will the weather look across the U.S.? AccuWeather's Geoff Cornish has the details.
00:00Welcome back to the AccuWeather Network. We are looking ahead to a very high-impact travel time, and for a lot of us, the weather will cooperate over the next few days, but there are obviously some issues here and there, and right now we're dealing with some storms moving through the northeast, but we're going to kind of move forward past that to enjoy some better travel weather reaching the northeast once we get rid of the ongoing storms that are moving through the region here on this Tuesday afternoon and evening into Wednesday.
00:28The back edge of this is probably going to be into areas like South Jersey, southeastern Virginia, most of the interior northeast, and areas like New York City and Boston. Smooth sailing, which is very good news.
00:37Now we're going to have nasty travel weather in the Four Corners region with some thunderstorms popping and scattered storms also into the southeast and parts of the upper Midwest on Wednesday.
00:45Thursday, there's a lot of green on the map. Those are areas where you should not have weather issues, but there will be some increasingly heavy rain near the I-4 corridor into Florida, also into parts of New Mexico, West Texas.
00:58Those are some of the areas where the most frequent downpours and flash flooding will be concerns, but also into these yellow zones. We're going to get some gusty storms again on Thursday in parts of the northern part of the northeast, mainly north of I-80, and then also west into places near Omaha along I-80. Some storms will be out there as well.
01:14Here specifically is the forecast for the 4th of July. We look really good in the northeast, maybe some showers in Maine. Humid across the south with spotty storms bubbling up, but the most organized thunderstorm activity will be kind of twofold.
01:27One in the upper Midwest and also into central and south Florida. That's where we have the greatest concerns for nasty travel weather.
01:34Some of these storms up into areas along Interstate 29 will be severe into Fargo, Grand Forks, and northern parts of Minnesota. That's also where we have the relatively poor viewing conditions in our forecast. Also parts of south Florida with some thunderstorms into the evening on Friday, July 4th.
