Dubai has taken another step toward the future of urban mobility with the successful completion of the first test flight of a fully electric flying taxi. The groundbreaking project is being developed through a partnership between Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority and the U.S.-based company Joby Aviation.
The successful test reinforces Dubai’s ambition to lead in urban air transportation solutions. The city has already begun construction of Joby's first commercial vertiport at Dubai International Airport, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Designed to carry up to four passengers, Joby’s air taxi can reach speeds of up to 320 km/h and aims to revolutionize the way residents and tourists move around the city. One of the planned routes — between the airport and the luxurious artificial island of Palm Jumeirah — is expected to take just 12 minutes, compared to the current 45-minute journey by road.
