00:00Competing in the Dakar Rally is a challenge like no other,
00:05one that pushes both man and machine to their absolute limits.
00:09This is especially true for competitors in the bike category
00:12who face the harshest race conditions,
00:15making it the most demanding discipline in the race.
00:17For this reason, riders must meet strict selection criteria
00:21to ensure they are prepared for the physical and mental demands of the race.
00:25So, if you want to compete in the Dakar on the bike,
00:28here's how the selection process works.
00:31Step 1. Application
00:32Submit your application on the official website
00:35and fill in the selection questionnaire.
00:38If you're a rookie, a presentation file is mandatory,
00:41explaining your motivations and experiences.
00:44Step 2. Eligibility
00:46To qualify and be familiar with the race's safety and navigation standards,
00:50riders must have competed in and finished
00:53at least one approved rally raid event.
00:55These include previous Dakars in the last five editions
00:58or during the last two years, on the date of the selection,
01:02Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge,
01:04Desafi au Routa Forti,
01:06Rallye du Maroc,
01:07South African Safari Rally,
01:09or the Sonora Rally.
01:11Step 3. Qualification
01:13The Dakar Selection Committee carefully reviews each rider's experience.
01:18Points are awarded based on completed races.
01:21Higher performance and the number of races finished earns extra points.
01:26Step 4. Selections
01:28The committee evaluates all eligible riders based on their experience and physical condition,
01:33as well as their background, motivation and objective for wanting to join the race.
01:37The announcement of selected riders will take place mid-July.
01:42Step 5. For those successful,
01:44Dakar kicks off in January,
01:46with a maximum of 140 riders on the starting line.
