Malaysia and Singapore reached a significant milestone in their cross-border transportation initiative with the unveiling of the first Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link train on Monday (June 30).
00:00Malaysia and Singapore have unveiled the first rapid transit system, RTS, Linktrain,
00:07marking another milestone in the cross-border rail project.
00:10The arrival of the new driverless, four-car train was commemorated at the Singapore Rail Test Centre on Monday,
00:16attended by Johor Mentri Besar, Datu On Hafiz Ghazi, Transport Minister Anthony Locke,
00:21and his Singapore counterpart Geoffrey Siao.
00:24And it is almost surreal to me to see the RTS Link emerge out of the agreement that we signed eight years ago.
00:31This hard infrastructure that you see, the train today, but also the bridge between the RTS Link spanning across the Johor Strait
00:41are physical manifestations and symbols of the many years of hard work put in by both sides.
00:49This project is no ordinary infrastructure. It represents strengthening ties of friendship, trust, and mutual respect between Malaysia and Singapore.
01:00Showcasing to the world of increasing trade protectionism, what we can achieve when we work together.
01:08While other parts of the world, people are busy setting up more barriers.
01:12Here we are breaking down barriers, building more connectivity, building more bridges, and this is something which will bring both the Singapore and Malaysia closer together,
01:24in particularly between Singapore and Johor Bahru.
01:28And I would say that this RTS project is a major component of the Johor Singapore as exact special economic zone.
01:37Without this link, I'm sure it would not be as interesting as we are today.
01:43The RTS Link fleet will consist of eight trains when service begins.
01:47The four-car trains are engineered to accommodate up to 600 passengers each,
01:51contributing to the system's overall peak capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
01:57Over the coming months, the first train will undergo comprehensive off-site systems integration testing.
02:03When completed, RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North in Singapore.
02:09It will facilitate the commute between Singapore and Johor Bahru,
02:12with a train journey time of about five minutes between the two stations.
02:16The RTS Link is targeted to commence passenger service by December next year.
02:27The 10th century.
02:29The RTS Link is targeted to ensure the phenomenaing of the tasks of International Airport walk across single owner pass in Sean Hall.
