The Road Transport Department started issuing RM300 summonses to Singapore-registered vehicles entering Malaysia without a valid Vehicle Entry Permit or VEP in the wee hours of Tuesday (July 1).

00:00The Road Transport Department started issuing 300 ringgit summonses to Singapore-registered vehicles entering Malaysia without a valid vehicle entry permit or VEP in the wee hours of Tuesday.
00:14Over a dozen fines have been issued since the ruling came into effect, and many motorists and motorcyclists were settling their fines and activating their VEP at the mobile unit set up by the department.
00:26Its Director General, Datuk Ayedi Fadli Ramli, said the VEP is mandatory for all foreign registered vehicles coming in through the southern land border in Johor.

01:25Singaporeans who were met by reporters at the causeway said they had no trouble entering Malaysia, praising the smooth VEP process and helpful staff.
01:47Enforcement of the VEP is currently focused on high-traffic areas in Johor with plans to expand to other states.
01:55As of June 29, over 206,000 private and 3,700 company vehicles have activated their VEP, while thousands are still pending.
02:07Authorities said only unactivated vehicles are being targeted by enforcement officers for the time being.
