00:00You don't want to acknowledge that the world is a loveless place.
00:11You don't want to acknowledge that those around you are mere beasts.
00:15If you acknowledge that they are beasts, you will have to acknowledge that the ones you love are all beasts.
00:20And the ones who provide you your livelihood, they are also beasts.
00:24So you go and try to talk to them and convince them,
00:27Sir, you know, please, sir, please understand, sir.
00:30They will not understand.
00:31The world does not run on truth. It runs on power.
00:34Look at what the US and Israel are doing to Iran.
00:37It has to be a war, you see. We can't avoid it.
00:40What kind of foolish dream are you living in?
00:44Nobody is going to join you.
00:45People are not ignorant. They are vicious.
00:48And they have done their deal with the devil.
00:50The deal is sealed.
00:52The point of no return has been crossed by most of them.
00:55Meeting of minds and shaking of hands is no more possible.
00:58The clarion call. It's a war call.
01:00The question is from Akash. He is a research scholar at IIT Madras.
01:07Akash is asking, Namaste, sir.
01:12I have come to see that the root problem is not environmental or technological, but lies in our inner disorder, our unconscious, ego-driven way of living.
01:21As a research scholar in condensed matter physics at IIT Madras, I live among people who deeply believe that science can solve everything, including the climate crisis.
01:32I too appreciate science, but I now see that even if we fix, in quotes, climate change, the deeper disease of human ignorance and exploitation will persist.
01:42Sir, I struggle to convey this understanding to others.
01:47Most of us have no idea of what actually is going on in the world.
01:52I see the same thing in a lot of people around me and many times in myself also that they may be educated and thoughtful, but they still believe that the current system is fine.
02:03And only its true, only its symptoms need addressing.
02:07When I try to share your message, it often falls on deaf ears.
02:11Sir, please guide me.
02:12How can I help people see that the real crisis lies within?
02:15How can I make this message clearer to those who believe that science and the system alone can save us?
02:26You want a real answer?
02:28The real answer is that we do not have enough time.
02:32To wait for everyone to see on their own that we are on the edge of the final calamity and technological or scientific or policy measures are
03:01just eye wash.
03:06Is there enough time?
03:08What you need is power.
03:24If you say you want to go to these people, they are not idiots.
03:28They are just determined to not to understand.
03:31Because their greed, their interests are aligned with the status quo.
03:39Climate is an entire industry which receives hundreds of billions of dollars in funding.
03:52The developed countries themselves have committed $100 billion of funding under the Paris Agreement, annual.
04:04$100 billion annually to climate mitigation.
04:09It's a big industry.
04:10It's a big industry.
04:11Though they are not actually providing that much but still the huge amount.
04:18And that's only the amount coming directly from the developed world.
04:21Otherwise also there is so much being raised in the name of climate.
04:28And those funds are obviously going somewhere.
04:35And there is an entire industry that receives those funds and is the beneficiary now.
04:41And they receive those funds saying that they will utilize those funds to come up with tech solutions.
04:54Tech solutions.
04:55Now somebody is running his livelihood on the climate funds.
05:02Somebody is making an entire career on finding tech solutions to climate crisis.
05:08And you go and tell them there can be no tech solution.
05:11Why will they listen to you?
05:14Why will they listen to you?
05:18And it's not one people.
05:20It's like it's a massive body of climate work that now exists.
05:32And on the other pole, a lot of money is flowing towards climate denialism.
05:46Probably more money that is flowing towards climate crisis medication.
05:53Getting it?
05:56If you are a climate denialist, you will receive a lot of money.
06:02For many things including publishing reports.
06:07In the public arena.
06:10That nothing called a climate crisis exists and all those things.
06:14And to back it up with some kind of shady scientific proof.
06:21You want to go and convince such a person?
06:30Try.
06:31And keep trying till the cows go home.
06:34Keep trying for 200 years, this fellow will not understand.
06:38Because his interests are tied now to not understanding.
06:42Someone runs his entire family and bases his entire reputation on dairy, milk business.
06:56His dreams are founded on dairy.
06:59I'll have more cattle and I'll export more beef.
07:09And I'll have two more big mansions, grand villas.
07:15I'll buy a luxurious island.
07:19I'll marry four actresses.
07:24And he has all these things founded on milk.
07:29And now, as a do-gooder, you are saying, sir, I want to tell you a few facts.
07:34The colour of milk is red.
07:38And then you say, Acharya Ji, I tried my best but that fellow didn't understand.
07:42That fellow doesn't need to understand.
07:44He already knows it better than you do.
07:47He knows everything and he has already made a decision.
07:50Let the planet go to hell.
07:55I will enjoy my little life.
07:58That's his decision.
08:01He already knows whatever you can tell him.
08:04He knows it better than you do because he is neck deep into the blood.
08:13What you need now is not persuasiveness but power.
08:17And that's what you all lack.
08:20We have just too many simpletons here.
08:26Who do not understand that the world in general does not run on truth.
08:32It runs on power.
08:33These are two centres.
08:34Please understand.
08:35The real centre works on truth.
08:39Wherever the truth is, the real centre goes towards that.
08:42But 99% people in the world, they do not operate from the real centre.
08:47They operate from the false centre.
08:49And the false centre understands only one language.
08:51The language of power.
08:55You cannot convince the ego.
08:57You can only coerce the ego.
09:01The ego lacks the capacity to be convinced.
09:04But you can bulldoze it.
09:13And it is bulldozed day in and day out.
09:15That's how the operations of the ego are.
09:18Why does the common man work?
09:20Because if he doesn't work, he will be fired.
09:22There is either the centre of truth or the centre of fear.
09:29Which is the centre of power.
09:30Both are the same.
09:33The world does not run on truth.
09:34It runs on power.
09:37Look at what the US and Israel are doing to Iran.
09:43There is truth there.
09:44The one who has power, calls the shots.
09:52And probably truth is on neither side.
09:55But what is certain is that the side having power will emerge victorious.
10:01You confuse spirituality with idealism.
10:04You say, no, we have understood because Achaharaji told us and we understood.
10:12So, now we will go out and make others understand.
10:17And when nobody understands you, then you return empty handed to me.
10:21Disillusioned, disappointed and shocked.
10:26But Achaharaji, we told them the same things that you told to us, but they didn't understand, sir.
10:30Because you are not me, they are not you and their relationship with you is not your relationship with me.
10:43They will not understand.
10:45Had they wanted to understand, first thing they would have come to me.
10:50They very well know I exist.
10:52They chose not to come to me.
10:54They do not listen from me.
10:56Why will they listen to you?
10:57And still you think some kind of very decent means are possible if you want to convince them.
11:09No decency is going to work, sir.
11:12You need to have power.
11:15And one power that you can have is the power of your numbers.
11:18But you are blissfully sleeping in some kind of idealism.
11:30You don't want to acknowledge that the world is a loveless place.
11:36You don't want to acknowledge that those around you are mere beasts.
11:39At least most of them, if not everyone.
11:46You don't want to acknowledge that.
11:48Why don't you want to acknowledge that?
11:50Because those around you are exactly the ones that you are associated with.
11:55They are your friends, your relatives, your lovers.
11:58And they are the ones who do not listen to you when you tell them about climate change.
12:09If you acknowledge that they are beasts, you will have to acknowledge that the ones you love are all beasts.
12:14And the ones who provide you your livelihood, they are also beasts.
12:17Everything will be risked.
12:20Your attachments, your bread and butter, everything will be risked.
12:26You don't want to run that risk.
12:28So you pretend people around you are decent folks.
12:33So you go and try to talk to them and convince them, sir, you know, please, sir.
12:38Please understand, sir.
12:41They will not understand.
12:43They are determined to not to understand.
12:45Now, if you can do something, proceed.
12:51Yes, there will be a miniscule minority.
12:58Fence sitters.
13:00Who are genuinely just deluded.
13:04Who don't have the problem of intention.
13:07Who just had scarcity of knowledge.
13:12Therefore, they were on the fence.
13:14These are only the people you can convince through persuasion, dialogue.
13:20Argument.
13:22But it's a very tiny number.
13:24So that one percent, yes, we can play on that.
13:27And we say, yes, we can.
13:28We can keep including more people, more people, but the massive majority of people.
13:32They will never come, not because they are ignorant, but because they already know everything and they have made their choice.
13:41They have decided that the planet can be thrown to dogs, that their remaining life of 20 or 40 years, that's what they have to make the most of consume, consume, consume, consume.
13:57Kill, kill, kill, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy.
14:03That's their motto.
14:04They have already decided.
14:05They have already decided.
14:08It has to be a war, you see.
14:11We can't avoid it.
14:12But in such acceptance, your ideals and images of spirituality become a hindrance.
14:19You say, but spirituality is all inclusive.
14:23We have to go out singing and dancing on the streets and everybody will join us.
14:29The world is such a good place, you know.
14:32We will just go out and display a lot of virtue and love and morality.
14:39We'll send out nice vibes to the society and everybody will join us.
14:44What kind of foolish dream are you living in?
14:50Nobody is going to join you.
14:57People are not ignorant.
14:59They are vicious.
15:04Even Sri Krishna could not convince that massive army standing in front of him to not to fight or to join him.
15:11Could he?
15:12There were more people against even Sri Krishna than were with him.
15:19The ones standing in opposition to Sri Krishna, right even in his lifetime, outnumbered those who stood with him.
15:29Who are you?
15:32Somebody beyond Krishna?
15:34That you will go out and convince these rascals?
15:37They have their own priorities.
15:48They may not necessarily be obnoxious kind of villains.
15:55Somebody could be a Bhishma.
15:58Somebody could be a Karn.
15:59But irrespective of what point of morality their priorities come from, the bottom line is, they stand opposed to you.
16:12Bhishma stands opposed to Krishna and Karn stands opposed to Krishna.
16:17Because they have other moralistic priorities.
16:21And they have to be fought down.
16:23That's it.
16:24And if you cannot fight them down, the Gita is not for you.
16:27The Gita is not for you.
16:30It's war.
16:31You do not understand the nature of wisdom or the Gita.
16:51You just don't understand.
16:52You think it is just a coincidence that the Gita was spoken to a warrior.
16:58No sir, the Gita is a thing of the battlefield.
17:01Where there is Gita, there has to be a battlefield.
17:06You want to have the Gita and avoid the battlefield?
17:10What kind of cowardice is this?
17:12Let us have the Gita, but avoid the battle.
17:19And that's when Shri Krishna is telling Arjuna only to fight.
17:24The Gita is a message to fight.
17:27But you think the fight can be avoided?
17:30No, the fight cannot be avoided.
17:34The peaceful ones among you, they can quit.
17:39And I am okay with that.
17:40Quit and take your right position.
17:45Go to the other side so that we can fire at you.
17:49Don't remain among us.
17:51We don't want those whose insistence is on pacification.
17:59No, no, let's be nice.
18:00Let's be decent.
18:01Let's you know this, that.
18:04I too would have opted for that.
18:06Could it work?
18:07It doesn't work, sir.
18:08It didn't work, sir.
18:09It didn't work even for Krishna.
18:11It never worked for anybody.
18:15It can work only on a very small minority, one percent.
18:18And on them, we are already working.
18:20The biggest problem is the passivity of those who have begun to understand.
18:36You have begun to understand, but you are such passive people.
18:39You think the Gita is so that everybody can just live peacefully in the world as it is.
18:51The Gita is the disruptor.
18:52The clarion call.
18:53It's a war call.
18:54You still have too much respect for the world.
18:55Your problem is this.
18:56Please understand.
18:57You don't have enough contempt for those around you.
18:58That's your problem.
18:59My situation was such that, even if I tried to act decently, I would have to act decently.
19:00It's a war call.
19:01You still have too much respect for the world.
19:02You still have too much respect for the world.
19:03You still have too much respect for the world.
19:04Your problem is this.
19:05Please understand.
19:06You don't have enough contempt for those around you.
19:15That's your problem.
19:19My situation was such that, even if I tried to act decent in front of my bosses, they could
19:33still feel as if I am spitting on their face.
19:40In my brief corporate stint, a little more than three years.
19:48Applying the maximum restraint, I would face them with a deadpan expression.
19:54With a totally blank face and eyes.
19:59I would look at them and still they could sense that they have an enemy standing in front of them.
20:12They could smell war.
20:15Because I could see through their being, their desires, their determination.
20:25And I knew that they are the ones determined to destroy everything.
20:37And their determination is almost final.
20:40They are inexorable now.
20:46The point of no return has been crossed by most of them.
20:55Meeting of minds and shaking of hands is no more possible.
21:02You don't see that.
21:19You don't want to see that, right?
21:21You want to pretend.
21:23Your family is virtuous.
21:26Your friends are virtuous.
21:27Your relatives.
21:28Your society.
21:29Your locality.
21:30Your bosses.
21:31Your peers.
21:32You want to pretend that they are all almost nice people.
21:37They are not sir.
21:40Do you understand the state of this planet?
21:46Do you even remotely sense that and you still want to call yourself nice?
21:56Don't you have any individual centre just because nobody is grieving.
22:01Just because nobody is crying out.
22:05You think things are alright, fine, controlled, decent?
22:08No sir.
22:09No sir.
22:10No sir.
22:11No sir.
22:12No sir.
22:13No sir.
22:14No sir.
22:15No sir.
22:16No sir.
22:17No sir.
22:18No sir.
22:19No sir.
22:20No sir.
22:21No sir.
22:22No sir.
22:23No sir.
22:24No sir.
22:25No sir.
22:26No sir.
22:27No sir.
22:28No sir.
22:29No sir.
22:30No sir.
22:31No sir.
22:32No sir.
22:33No sir.
22:34No sir.
22:35No sir.
22:36No sir.
22:37No sir.
22:38people around you, they are the ones responsible and they have done their deal
22:44with the devil.
22:54The deal is sealed. You cannot reverse their deal with the devil.
23:01It's called the Faustian Bargain, in which, in lieu of certain comforts and privileges,
23:11you sell away your inner truth.
23:15They have done the deal and they won't reverse their deal. Now it depends on you, whether
23:25you want to continue exploring alliances there or you understand that it's war.
23:35And war does not mean that you have to pounce on them and punch them in the face.
23:41War means an internal acknowledgement that you have to give it all that you can, that
23:48pacification or isolation is no more an option.
23:58That you have to be into it with all that you have.
24:02Just as when a nation faces war, all its resources are diverted towards the war.
24:12We do not say, you know, so much of the budget, this has to be allocated to civic amenities
24:18and beautifying our parks.
24:22So beautification of parks is wonderful, but let that wait for another day.
24:38The one who does not identify the enemy as the enemy will be the first to go.
24:49You find them attacking me every day, don't you understand?
24:55How dumb can we all be?
25:01Do you think they understand me for no reason, no.
25:05They know I am an existential threat.
25:14I am being systematically subdued.
25:20Don't you see that, just apply a little bit of intellect and you will see, yes that
25:25is happening.
25:31They know it's war and they are hell-bent on suppressing you.
25:46But you want to pretend all is hunky-dory.
25:48You want to pretend, no, no, everybody is nice and these are all decent people.
25:52After all, they are our own society, our friends.
25:57That side is pulling no punches.
26:03That side is attacking you with all its might.
26:06But because you are very, very afraid, you want to pretend that there is no war.
26:27They are all co-conspirators.
26:35Where in the media do you find climate change being accorded the space it needs?
26:42Do you find that?
26:44Think of all the reputed publications.
26:47Do you find them discussing the climate crisis?
26:50Do you find them telling you that you are on the verge of extinction, wholesale extinction?
26:55Do they tell you?
26:56Okay.
26:57Look.
26:58They are all hands and gloves.
27:01Left, right, centre, they are all one and the truth is all alone.
27:17Such innocent looking questions you put.
27:32I go to my friends and I try to tell them there can be no tech solution to climate change
27:36but nobody listens.
27:46They will not listen, they cannot listen, they already know.
27:56And you are alone, now if you are a man, pick up the gauntlet, they have already thrown it.
28:12They have already thrown the gauntlet, they are saying we will not change, we are determined
28:16to destroy the planet.
28:18Now if you are a man, take up the challenge.
28:23Sir, this entire society is those who see themselves as beneficiaries of destruction.
28:38You must understand that inwardly you cannot have any pact with them.
28:46These are two different centres that cannot meet the centre of destruction and the centre
28:52of compassion.
28:53It is not that they do not know.
28:54It is not that they are, that they do not know.
29:00They know and they have made their choice.
29:17Now you see what you have to do.
29:33They have already chosen.
29:34Now you see what you need to choose.
29:42They have chosen and they will not budge.
29:45They are beyond the point of return, now you see what you need to do.
29:59My name is Sunaina, I have joined Gita for almost eight months.
30:12So I have seen myself changing in various aspects, but not so much, but still I am working.
30:25One thing I also appreciated today was that about the thing that we always try to think forward
30:34and see that, okay, so if I start on this path, then there will be some time when I have
30:41to sacrifice something or look ahead that what will happen, this and that.
30:50But still I am not in a position of doing that.
30:53But there is always this behaviour to look forward.
30:57But that was a very nice example that just if you are at zero step, then it is just one
31:05step ahead that you look and that is your real state.
31:08And then it is all ongoing process and you will find yourself very comfortable in that.
