00:00Okay, guys, here and up will be good.
00:05Protect yourself at all times, obey my command at all times.
00:07Touch him up, let's go.
00:12As we get a look at the tail of the tape for our opening bout of the evening,
00:15you see Wyatt Sanford, three years older.
00:17But in terms of actual in-ring experience, amateur pedigree, they do not even compare.
00:22He's been around the world and back as an amateur boxer.
00:24Southpaw stance, and he will bring that to bear very soon.
00:30Opening bell sounds, we see Wyatt Sanford come out immediately, testing the range.
00:35Wyatt Sanford, the pride of Kenneth Cook Nova Scotia that's in Pants County outside of Halifax.
00:43We last saw him, just three weeks ago, recording a first-round knockout over Tomas Lasta.
00:48Good wide stance by Sanford.
00:50He's in here as well, looking to try to, an established range, likes to go to the body early.
00:56You see this sometimes, Matt, when an orthodox fighter fights a southpaw.
01:03There's the battle for foot position, which we're seeing right now, each guy trying to get their foot on the outside.
01:09You also see that battle for new hand position.
01:10Correct.
01:11They sort of keep touching gloves, keep touching gloves, keep touching gloves.
01:14This is the most composed you've ever seen Wyatt Sanford.
01:17What we've seen since Wyatt Sanford has turned pro is an aggressive Wyatt Sanford.
01:21But here he's sort of sizing Lasta up.
01:24And at the same time, he has to have respect for Andrej when you look at also Andrej.
01:28The only loss he had was an eight-round decision loss to Lorenzo Priolo.
01:32Yes.
01:33Your colleague Corey Erdman called his fight at the tournament for WBC Grand Prix in the junior welterweight division, advancing to the quarterfinals.
01:40Yeah, well, this is the thing about Andrej, to your point, is that the first few wins of his pro career were against people in their pro debuts.
01:46And then he went straight into the deep end against Priolo, the quarterfinalist in the WBC Grand Prix.
01:51And now here he is facing an Olympic medalist, Wyatt Sanford.
01:54So he knows straight out of the gate that Wyatt Sanford lands his crisp left hand down the door.
01:59Andrej is getting an idea right away of where he ranks amongst the division's young elites.
02:04Beautiful jab from Sanford, catches and grab coming in.
02:10Check left hook off the glove with that straight left hand land, blushing.
02:14I think the timing of Sanford for that straight left is what he's looking at here, blocked well that right.
02:19Sometimes even as a southpaw fighter, you want to lead with the left hand a little bit more often if the jab is a little bit difficult to reach against the orthodox fighter.
02:27And this is the thing you will learn as you watch more of Wyatt Sanford, even though his pro career is fairly young against his third fight.
02:35He's extremely experienced and extremely versatile as an amateur boxer.
02:38You sort of learn to play that high-speed chess, but the more you watch him fight, you understand.
02:42He's not afraid to come forward, not afraid to put his punches together.
02:46Punch for effect, where he lands a heavy jab.
02:48Another one just misses with that roundhouse.
02:51This was impressed by Wyatt Sanford saying that even though this is only his third pro fight, he is looking at opponents as many visuals as he can find.
03:02We have fighters sometimes early on in their career, they just want the coaches to look at tape.
03:05Yes.
03:06He sees a great benefit of watching tape of his opponents even for early stages of his career.
03:11Yeah, and as we move through this evening, we'll see fighters with a variety of approaches to watch the video.
03:16Looking back, he watches a little bit of video and not much more.
03:19The 10-second alarm sounds.
03:21Another beautiful check right hook from Wyatt Sanford.
03:26Connects with that left-hand movement.
03:28I think it would be way better.
03:31Oh yeah!
03:33But who love you?
03:34You are so afraid of.
03:36He is waiting on you.
03:39I told you.
03:40Just go join.
04:41If you go back and watch his amateur film, he likes to chase, not really good at cutting
04:49off the ring, but his problem tonight is that Wyatt Sanford is not hard to find.
04:54Here comes Wyatt Sanford.
04:55Starts round two on the front foot.
04:57And then a few good left early on and already you can see he's willing to throw a little
05:03bit more Sanford in this opening bell of the second round.
05:06He is connecting with two overhand lefts right after a right uppercut, catching Andrea
05:13of leaning.
05:17The other thing is quickly becoming apparent about Sanford, Matt, is that in a six-round
05:22fight, he can fight at a more measured pace.
05:24He doesn't have to make everything happen like for his two-round and just only four-round
05:28limit.
05:28That's right.
05:29He's going to also have to learn how much of his cardio in the gym is going to translate
05:35into the pros, right?
05:36Once he passes that three-round, four-round, he starts to really have a taste of what it
05:41is, right?
05:42Well, one, to that point, he has been sparring, at least when Demetri Asenow was over here
05:46preparing for his bout in April against Francesco Patera.
05:50They sparred together.
05:51Beautiful straight left hand, setting the pace.
05:55And I want to really buzz.
05:56Great!
05:57And there's Marc Andreyev learning a painful lesson in the idea that you've got to protect
06:00yourself at all times.
06:01He paused to pull up his pants.
06:03And Wyatt Sanford said there's no time out in boxing unless the referee called it.
06:06Pop it.
06:07There he is.
06:08To your point, Matt, leading with that left hand, leading with it again.
06:12Using that left hand to set the table.
06:15Quick, smart jab there from Andreyev.
06:17Here comes the fight.
06:20And by fighting here in Montreal or Quebec City, Wyatt Sanford has a lot of opportunities
06:24to spar top guys at 140 pounds.
06:26You talked about Asenow, who comes from Dubai, where his training camps and fights here.
06:30Guys like Orobio were fighting later on the card.
06:32Steve Clackett does his training camp here in Montreal as well.
06:35There's just so many guys and so many opportunities for him.
06:37R.C. B. Arsenev is in that gym as well.
06:39And so there's really world-class sparring on a daily and weekly basis.
06:44Good body shot right there by Sanford.
06:48There's Sanford again coming over the top of that straight left hand.
06:52Coming back with a left hook and a straight.
06:54A right hook and a straight left.
06:56Another straight left.
06:57And Andreyev does not have answers for these blows.
07:01That straight left and the check hook are landing.
07:03Almost there.
07:08Where Sanford going to the body with the left hand and coming back upstairs.
07:13Andreyev doing the one thing he thinks will work, which is holding.
07:16But that's not a long-term strategy.
07:20No, and Sanford, though, is staying within, really, his game plan.
07:23Not forcing anything just yet.
07:25And round two comes to an end.
07:33Very mature rod and performance so far by Wayansan.
07:36Yes.
07:43Super good.
07:45No.
07:47You start touching the body, it's very good.
07:50I want a little more body shots.
07:52All right?
07:54Touch up, finish down.
07:55Then, as soon as you touch the body, boom, you go up again.
07:59Fix up and down.
08:01Defensively, just stay a little smaller.
08:03Drop butt, under, under, against your angle.
08:06Very good.
08:07Touch your back and attack twice.
08:09Exactly.
08:10Okay?
08:10So far, you're looking very good.
08:13He's going to start feeling in danger and try to open with big white shot.
08:16You need to stay tight.
08:17Tight?
08:18Yeah.
08:18First attack, angle, second attack.
08:19As soon as you can, you touch your body if you're working.
08:22If you didn't like it.
08:36Matthew, we were mentioning that Marc-Andreyev sort of jumped straight into the deep end in
08:40terms of his professional boxing career.
08:42He might need that because, as a married man, I can tell you, married life is expensive.
08:46But if he is a newbie way, he just got married on May 20th, three days after Wyatt Sanford's
08:51pro debut.
08:52Congratulations to Marc and Elisa Hunfrey.
08:55I guess the honeymoon will have to wait, though.
08:57Yes.
08:57Back in the ring.
08:58Lost the first two rounds.
09:00Again, good technique, but he's trying to land that right hand and hasn't been really able
09:04to close the distance.
09:05He would rather have a fight at a closer range with good white stance by Sanford.
09:09Again, if you look at Andreyyev's previous fights as an amateur, he likes to come forward
09:16behind a high guard, chase you around the ring, try to trap you and force you into a brawl.
09:20But the problem with doing that with Sanford is that right there.
09:23Sanford, one, is a fast, accurate puncher.
09:27Two, he punches with authority.
09:28And with an authority that I don't know that Criolo has felt in his hands as a professional.
09:32Beautiful left hand for the body.
09:35And the other part that you're mentioning for his strategy for Andreyyev, when you talk
09:38about moving around a ring, this is a small ring for an arena stadium.
09:43Really, you're looking at the same kind of size as a casino ring, so there's not much
09:46space to move.
09:48And truthfully, moving and finding and getting Sanford to stand still and trade punches is
09:54never going to be Andreyyev's problem.
09:55And the problem is going to be supporting Sanford's offense.
10:00And Andreyyev has not been able to do that yet.
10:02And you see Sanford's stock again.
10:05Another straight left hand lead.
10:07Follow that up with the left uppercut.
10:09Another overhand left.
10:13And Andreyyev is just having real trouble with Wyatt Sanford's timing.
10:18Sanford's timing is so immaculate.
10:20I'm surprised to see Sanford try again, that uppercut to the body.
10:23You see him landing that straight left again from a little bit different angle.
10:27So you got hit there by a right hand a little bit just trying to lean back.
10:32Beautiful.
10:33Jab to the head, right hook to the body.
10:37Andreyyev is starting to look a little bit shell-shocked.
10:40He's so weary of that straight left hand coming.
10:42That the rest of Sanford's offense is going to be rough.
10:49Straight left to the head with the body again from Sanford.
10:51Definitely, you see the holding there.
10:59And Andreyyev trying to just slow down Sanford on the inside.
11:01Yeah, he can slow Sanford down with holding, but he can't stop him.
11:06And again, straight left hand.
11:11And until Andreyyev shows he can stop that punch, Sanford has no reason not to throw it.
11:16Andreyyev with a jab over the top.
11:26And again, Sanford lands that punch one more time.
11:29Straight left, straight between Andreyyev's best.
11:36Sanford in control after three rounds.
11:37Sanford in control after three rounds.
11:59STELLA, MIGHT BE THE TOUGHEST TEST OF HIS PRO CAREER SO FAR, AGAIN, GIVEN THEIR TWO STYLES OF FIGHT THAT MIGHT STEAL THE SHOW, EXCEPT I FEEL I'M SEEING THAT ABOUT A LOT OF FIGHTS TONIGHT, BAD.
12:23AND ONE THING HERE, HE'S DOING THE MID WORK, LOUIS SANTANA, WE SAW PREVIOUSLY WITH JUSTICE TO THE TRAINER WHO WILL BE IN REPLACEMENT OF VEINCENT AUCLAIRS, WE TALKED ABOUT, AS WE SEE ESTELLA HERE, OBVIOUSLY IN THE LOCKER ROOM, HE TRIED TO SURPRISE SANTANA EARLY ON, BUT WE TALKED ABOUT WIAT SANFORD NOT HAVING HIS HEAD COACH AVAILABLE TONIGHT, SAME THING FOR LOUIS SANTANA.
12:43YES, BUT IF YOU ARE A HIGH-LEVEL AMATURE LIKE WIAT SANFORD, ONE THING YOU GET USED TO ARE SUDDEN CHANGES, SUDDEN CHANGES OF PLAN.
12:51CORRECT. BECAUSE YOU GET INTO THESE BIG TOURNAMENTS AND SOMETIMES THERE'S UPSETS, AND THE GUY YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO FACE IN THE NEXT ROUND, YOU'RE FACING SOMEBODY ELSE.
12:58SO THE SUDDEN ADVANCE OF THE NORMAL COACH, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S GOING TO BOTHER HIM THAT MUCH.
13:02HE'S A NEW PROFESSIONAL, BUT HE'S ALSO AN EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL.
13:06NO, YOU'RE RIGHT, MORGAN, AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE TEAM, THEY HAVE ASSISTANT COACHES THAT ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THESE FIGHTERS.
13:11THIS IS NOT A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO MISSING YOUR HEAD COACH, SO ABSOLUTELY THAT THEY HAVE CONTINGENCY PLANS IN PLACE.
13:18AND FOR WIAT SANFORD, CONTINGENCY PLAN A, PLAN A-A CONTINGENCY PLAN IS TO LAND THAT LEAD LEFT HAND, WHETHER IT'S STRAIGHT TO THE FOREHAND OR SORT OF A HALF UPPERCUT TO THE BODY.
13:31IT'S BEEN THERE FOR HIM ALL NIGHT.
13:33HERE HE HAS ANDREAV IN RETREAT, THIS IS NOT WHAT ANDREAV WANTS TO.
13:37NO, I THINK ANDREAV WE'RE SEEING, SIMILAR TO HIS LAST FIGHT, KIND OF MORE OF LET'S GET TO THE SCORE CARD, NOT REALLY TRYING TO TAKE CHANCES AT THIS POINT, TAKING A LOT OF BIG SHOTS.
13:48YEAH, YOU SEE THAT STRAIGHT LEFT HAND AGAIN FROM WIAT SANFORD.
13:53THERE'S THE HOOK TO SET UP THE STRAIGHT LEFT HAND.
13:57THREE SMART, POWERFUL BOXING HERE FOR WIAT SIN, AGAIN, A SERIES OF LEFT HOOKS TO THE BOG, OR RIGHT, SORRY, ROUNDHOUSE LEFT HOOKS TO THE BOG.
14:07YOU CAN TELL WITH SANFORD, THE WAY HE'S FIGHTING THIS FOURTH ROUND, HE'S NOT CONCERNED AT ALL AT THIS POINT, WHAT'S COMING BACK AGAINST HIM, AND THAT'S PART OF HIS MINDSET, HE DOES WANT TO TRY THE END FIGHTS AND KNOCKOUT AND NOT JUST BE CONTENT WITH THE DECISION.
14:23OH, GOOD BODY SHOT RIGHT THERE.
14:26YOU COME BACK TO THE RIGHT HOOK UP STAIRS, AND AGAIN, ANDREAV, WHAT HE CAN DO IS HOLD, BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE THE FOOTWORK TO FORCE SANFORD TO MOVE, HE'S NOT A SLICK FIGHTER ON THE INSIDE, HE CAN'T STAY IN THE POCKET TO MAKE YOU MISS, THAT'S A BAD COMBINATION, HUGE OVERHAND LEFT.
14:44ANDREAV SHOWING A GOOD CHIN, BUT THE PROBLEM WITH SHOWING A GOOD CHIN IS THAT WE CAN SEE YOUR CHIN BECAUSE YOU'RE GETTING HIT, THIS IS THE DILEMA HE'S IN RIGHT NOW.
14:54I REALLY DON'T THINK THERE'S MUCH ELSE HE COULD DO REALLY, THOUGH, YOU'RE SEEING THERE'S A TALENT LEVEL DIFFERENCE.
15:01DIFFERENT IN, A DIFFERENCE IN ATHLETIC ABILITY, EXPERIENCE, TALENT, AND WE SAY THIS ALL THE TIME, PROCESSING SPEAKS.
15:08YOU CAN SEE ANDREAV THINKING ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS TO DO NEXT, AND AS HE'S THINKING, WHIAT SANFORD IS JUST DOING IT.
15:15SANFORD RIPPING, VICIOUS RIGHT HOOK TO THE BODY.
15:20SO WE WERE TALKING ABOUT EARLY ON, MORGAN, WHEN WE SAID THAT WHIAT SANFORD GETTING INTO THE SIX ROUNDS, LEVEL UP, GETTING ROUNDS OF EXPERIENCE AND STAYING ACTIVE,
15:29IT'S A GOOD LEARNING FIGHT FOR HIM.
15:31ABSOLUTELY.
15:32THE FIRST TWO PUNCHES TO THE HEAD DIDN'T WORK WITH ANDREAV KOLIN BACK.
16:01THAT WAS THE LEFT OF THE CHIN THAT REALLY DID SOME DAMAGE.
16:06YOU SEE, HIS CONNECT RATE FOR WHIAT SANFORD IS NOT BAD, AND HIS STAMINA SEEMS TO BE STILL PRETTY GOOD, ALTHOUGH HE IS BREATHING A LITTLE BIT HEAVIER.
16:14FIRST TIME HE HAS EVEN PASSED FIRST ROUND IN HIS PRO CAREER, NOW HE WILL BE ENTERING THE FIFTH.
16:18EXACTLY.
16:19ONE, YOU WOULD BE BREATHING HEAVILY, TOO, IF THIS WAS THE THIRD FIGHT IN SIX WEEKS, AND NOW IT'S THE LONGEST FIGHT YOU'VE EVER HAD.
16:25BUT TWO, YOU CAN SEE ON ANDREAV'S FACE THE DAMAGE STARTING TO ACCURVE.
16:30THOSE LASER-GUIDED LEFT HANDS, LEAD LEFT HANDS AFTER A JAB, LEFT HANDS AFTER A RIGHT HOOK.
16:36STARTING TO TAKE IT'S TONE ON ANDREAV.
16:40AND ANDREAV, YOU CAN SEE JUST IN THE HIGHLIGHT THAT WE SHOWED, IS SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS, AND ONE OF THE ANSWERS HE THINKS HE CAN FIND IS TO BACK STRAIGHT UP.
16:48AGAINST A FIGHTER AS RESOURCEFUL AND FAST AND INTELLIGENT LIKE WIATS SANFORD, THAT'S NOT A SUSTAINABLE PLAN EITHER.
16:58SANFORD SNEAKING THAT RIGHT HAND IN BETWEEN THE TRUCKS, COMING OVER THE TOP OF THE LEFT.
17:04SO IT WAS A Bstan, I THINK, IT'S A SOLID, BASIC, FUNDAMENTAL ONE-TWO THEN BACK DOWN TO THE BODY.
17:10MIXING IN STILL THE BODY SHOT SEEM AT THIS STATE OF THE FIGHT IS A VERY GOOD STRATEGY BY WIATS SANFORD.
17:16yeah you saw him there Matt start with the right hook to the body then finish
17:20with the straight left upstairs and again to your point this is about it's
17:26competitive but it's also something it's also a chance for Wyatt Samford to work
17:30on stuff in a live setting he hasn't had a chance to do that as a professional
17:34because he's had these two first round knockouts it's one thing to spar ten
17:38rounds it's another thing to compete for six rounds absolutely right now taking
17:44his time picking his shots that's the only kind of big right hand that
17:48Andrejev has tried to land but Samford has been mostly blocking those yes credit
17:53to Samford I'm about to say he's starting to turn up the offense little by little
17:58this round but he's still cognizant of what could be coming back at him even
18:02though Andrejev you know has mostly seemed a little bit more shot shell shock
18:05every round beautiful stiff right jab follows that up left uppercut
18:11there's Andrejev trying to come back with those roundhouse rights
18:14Wyatt Samford is ready defensively responsible it's a really impressive
18:21excellent point because you know his offense has been very strong yes amateur
18:26even early on in the pro ranks but want to develop also that defense he's been
18:31moving a lot to his right staying away from the power hat
18:36it's paid dividends and again yes and Samford has also shown this ability to
18:41fight going forwards and going backwards right Andrejev this right here is what
18:46Andrejev wants to be doing coming forward throwing heavy shots but he's just found so
18:50few opportunities to do that here's Wyatt Samford making a miss coming over the top of
18:54that straight left hand finishing the next sequence with a crisp right hook
19:00Andrejev is really trying to whip that right hand almost throwing it
19:05like a hook shot yes distance but his problem you saw right there is that
19:09Wyatt Samford his timing is so sharp that when Andrejev now wants to wind up and throw
19:14that right hand Wyatt Samford clips it with a short straight left right there he
19:19stepped back yes
19:22again but these are just the differences between levels of fighter because there
19:25are fighters against who Andrejev can do that correct and make it work
19:29why Samford is not that fighter
19:33you can see them coming every time you put your combos together and you finish with a small angle he's unable to come back because he's off balance
19:42so touch and change your angle but when you change your angle be ready to jump on it
20:01the straight shots that you were mentioning Morgan early on for Wyatt Samford found a mark mixing it up body and head and back against the
20:20ropes is not where Andrejev wants to be at times he tried a few big right hands in
20:26that round but clearly down on the scorecards entering the six probably hasn't lost every round
20:42and as much as we're learning that about Wyatt Samford we're also learning something pretty important about Andrejev is that
20:47he is a survivor he's a guy that knows how to go around he's the guy that takes a good punch because
20:52had this fight he went eight rounds he buzzed Wyatt Samford there with that
20:56roundhouse right he went eight rounds with Fiorenzo Criolo
20:59who again is a quarter-finalist
21:01here he is on the verge of going the distance he's lost every round
21:05he's on the verge of going the distance with an Olympic medalist
21:08with two knockouts on his record
21:10so at a certain point it's not a coincidence that he's taking big steps up in class
21:14not winning the fights but going the distance with guys
21:17get a lot of other people out of lesser fighters out
21:20and still coming out fighting here in the sixth round
21:22100%
21:23and that's also credit to the matchmaking of trying to make your prospects in this case
21:28Wyatt Samford not only win fights but also learn something against good opposition
21:32yeah absolutely it's one thing to go out and just rack up a bunch of wins over
21:36matched opponents
21:37but here's Andrejev right now taking the fight to Wyatt Samford
21:41landing that overhand right to the body
21:43forcing Wyatt Samford to sort of stand and fight with him
21:46here's Samford unloading with both hands finishing with the left hand over the top
21:50you were saying that
21:51oh maybe here he'll have an opportunity to catch and a counter shot
21:54because he's been the aggressor most of the night
21:56yes
21:57that left hand a moment ago was the cleanest shot he's landed all night
22:00clean right hook
22:03big lead hand uppercut
22:05Andrejev's covering up backing off him
22:07you hear Samford's corner saying drive him back and then here's a right hand off the rope from Andrejev
22:15he's not done yet
22:16we rode him off a little too soon Matt
22:19another crisp left hand straight down the pipe from Wyatt Samford
22:23that's been the punch for him tonight
22:27left and right around the guard behind the elbows to the ribcage
22:32well placed body size
22:34that's Andrejev just there took a deep breath
22:37a well-deserved deep breath
22:39because those were some thunderous body shots that Wyatt Samford just made
22:46Andrejev's been tough in game
22:50just outclassed ultimately
22:52and there's a straight right hand from Andrejev
22:54and then a left hook from Andrejev
22:57he's not done
22:58let's go Wyatt
22:59let's go
23:00left of the body there
23:02see Samford with that quick overhand left
23:06Andrejev leading with the left
23:08left hook throwing it again
23:09oh
23:11that's worse
23:13Samford saw those shots coming
23:15yes
23:16big lead hooks
23:17kind of desperate shots
23:18yes
23:19and Andrejev was playing a dangerous game
23:21because that third big left hook
23:23might have gotten him knocked out
23:25be careful
23:30ten seconds to go
23:31and here's Andrejev still standing
23:34which I wouldn't necessarily have predicted after the second round
23:38big check hook
23:39hybrid uppercut
23:40right to the jaw
23:41to punctuate
23:42uh
23:43a successful
23:44emphatic
23:45six rounds
23:47absolutely good
23:48technical fight by Wyatt Samford
23:50in terms of not
23:51getting hit much
23:52through a lot of combinations
23:55straight punches
23:56like you mentioned Morgan
23:57after the second round
23:58you thought maybe that straight left
23:59would find a mark
24:00yes
24:01but
24:02when you look at Andrejev
24:03he's
24:05tough
24:06and was able to
24:08have some opposition
24:09here tonight
24:10see the combination there
24:11when he tried to open up
24:12McCott
24:13a
24:14nice counter left hand
24:15by Samford
24:16that was the big left hook
24:27that was missed
24:29as a desperate shot
24:30Andrejev
24:31that was missed
24:32as a desperate shot
24:33Andrejev
24:34to
24:38everything
24:41and
24:43you
24:47they
24:49got
24:51from
24:52sc
24:54watching
24:55and
24:58that
24:59cannot
25:01expect
25:02One thing while we see, Russ Amber take out the gloves for Wyatt Sanford.
25:11Russ Amber had a Canadian Olympian in 1996.
25:14The last time there was a medalist, it was David Defiabon.
25:17And Russ was not with David, but he had Hercules Cavalos in that Olympic team.
25:21I remember Hercules Cavalos.
25:22I was about to say, I didn't remember David Defiabon being a Russ Amber guy,
