00:00Why did plague doctors wear those creepy masks? You'd think that being a doctor during the plague would be pretty cool
00:05You get to wear a mask and carry a staff and tell people they're gonna die
00:08But actually it was really freaking scary. First of all, the mask itself was super uncomfortable
00:13It was made out of leather and it covered your entire face. You couldn't see out of it very well
00:17And it made it hard to breathe. Yep, you heard me right
00:20They would rip open their own guts to see if they had a chance of survival
00:23And when they did this, they would often invite the plague doctor to watch
00:27So you're telling me you wouldn't want to be a plague doctor and if you were a woman forget about wearing makeup
00:31But the worst part was definitely the smell the mask would get soaked with sweat and urine
00:35And then you'd have to walk around all day smelling like a public bathroom
00:39And if that wasn't bad enough, sometimes the patients would try to pull off their own autopsies
