Stefano Capello is founder of Limenet, an Italian company that has big plans for how to turbo-charge the slow carbon cycle to capture carbon AND tackle one of the biggest threats to the marine 🌊 environment - ocean acidification.

Limenet plans to use limestone, the most available rock material on the planet 🌎 to restore the natural pH of the ocean.

00:00Ocean acidification is one of the biggest threats that we have in the ocean.
00:07Basically, CO2 that is in the atmosphere is absorbed in this water and the pH is going a little bit down.
00:15Acidity is measured using the pH scale, which ranges from 0 to 14.
00:21Anything from 0 to 6 is considered acidic.
00:257 is neutral, like pure water, and 8 to 14 means a solution is alkaline or base.
00:34Basically, the opposite of acidic.
00:37So, 8.2 should be the pH of the sea. Right now, it's 8.1.
00:42The solution is ocean alkalinity enhancement.
00:45So, it's to increase the alkalinity, basically adding minerals into the sea in order to restore the pH.
00:54So, to bring from 8.1 up to 8.2, that should be the pH level of the sea.
