Jackson Merrett and Joe Carmody after East Point's win over Sebastopol
Transcript
00:00What about the Jackson Merrick pocket in the right forward pocket at Sebastopol, mate?
00:03What a goal. Another one.
00:05Yeah, too bad. Two years in a row, but I think you can go down.
00:10Sometimes the harder they are, the less expectation you put on yourself.
00:13Just go back, relax, and kick it, and let the ball do the rest.
00:16You weren't kicking into a six-goal win, though, this time as well.
00:18Yeah, thankfully. The old legs were pretty tired at that stage of the game.
00:21They'd run it all day, but credit for the boys.
00:23We fought back and stuck fat in that last quarter and got some momentum
00:26and some front-half footy, and were able to capitalise there late.
00:28Did you get that one off the ground as well, was it?
00:31Ah, no, that was Slats. Oh, no, Slats and Matty Johnson.
00:34Matty Johnson, yeah.
00:35Two off the ground there late in the game, which was, yeah, credit.
00:38A couple of lucky ones. Sometimes it falls your way.
00:40Yeah, exactly right, mate. Tell me about the day itself.
00:43I mean, they threw absolutely everything at you guys,
00:46and you were probably a little bit flat today.
00:47Yeah, yeah, that's a fair comment, I think.
00:49I think you come to Sebastopol, you're going to be in for a pretty tough day.
00:52They play a pretty, you know, contested pressure game.
00:56So we knew that coming here, but it's something we've got to work on,
01:00I suppose, moving forward, coming up against some of the better sides
01:02in the back half of the year.
01:03You can't really, you know, give teams a sniff
01:06because they'll put you to the sword, as Sunbury and Daly did to us.
01:09So we'll keep working on that throughout the week
01:11and hopefully be able to wrestle momentum back
01:13and get some cleaner entries going inside 50
01:15and be able to just own the game a bit more would be nice.
01:18And, Joe, tell me a little bit about that last quarter.
01:21I mean, you were 10 points down at three-quarter time,
01:23but you could have been 30 points down at three-quarter time.
01:25I mean, you were just in the game.
01:27Yeah, it was really poor third quarter.
01:29We just couldn't get the ball in our front half,
01:31and, you know, the backs probably stood up pretty well
01:33considering the amount of inside 50 Sebastad.
01:36So once we were able to level it out in terms of territory,
01:40we were able to score a bit more often
01:42and put more scoreball pressure on them.
01:44There's a real belief in this team, though.
01:45I mean, this is second year in a row at this ground.
01:48You've been pretty much out of the match at three-quarter time
01:50and you've somehow found a way to win.
01:52I mean, how important is that to building the team?
01:54Yeah, like, the boys have got fantastic character.
01:56We know that.
01:57And, you know, we've responded every time.
02:00We've been challenged, you know,
02:01whether it's coming off a bad loss
02:02or whether it's been down at three-quarter time.
02:04The boys have really worked themselves back into the game.
02:07So, you know, we're able to get the job done today.
02:09We know we've got a lot of work to do, though.
02:11But these are the type of wins you bank
02:13and you're just grateful.
02:14You get the points in the end.
02:16Well, at the end of the day,
02:16you just want to be singing the song at the end of the day.
02:18You can't beat everyone by ten goals, as you said, in there.
02:21Yeah, that's right.
02:21Like, it is a hard place to win.
02:23And, you know, they were playing for their season.
02:25You know, they're still on the cusp of the six.
02:27So they were going to give everything,
02:30throw everything at us.
02:31And they've got some experienced guys in there
02:32who are top-line players.
02:34So to be able to, even though we didn't play well,
02:38there's a lot of credit that has to go to Sebastian as well.
02:40You're still manned down the bench.
02:41So Molan, ankle, what it looks like?
02:42Yeah, Molan did his ankle.
02:44We were hoping to get him back on.
02:46Just couldn't put any weight on it.
02:48So, fortunately, we'll have to probably get that scanned
02:50and see what that looks like.
02:52And, yeah, and then we'll...
02:54Hopefully two weeks might be...
02:55It'll probably be a three or four weeker, probably.
02:57He'd probably think so.
02:58The bye's going to help us with a few guys who've got niggles
03:00and then a few guys who've been missing as well.
03:02Mika's after the bye?
03:03No, Mika will miss the Sunbury game.
03:05And then he'll be back, further back as far.
03:08All right.
03:08And, Jaco, let's talk about Sunbury next week.
03:11Yep.
03:11They got you pretty convincingly last time.
03:14I mean, it's a week after next, obviously.
03:15But they got you pretty convincingly last time.
03:17I guess the build-up's already started for that one now.
03:19Yeah, 100%.
03:20I think, you know, credit to them.
03:22They play their home ground really, really well.
03:24They spread us in that last quarter.
03:26They're able to exit through front of stoppage from centre bounce
03:29and put our defence under a lot of pressure.
03:31We're unable to get some numbers back.
03:32And, as I said, the ground's so big,
03:34their forwards are able to dictate positions.
03:35So, hopefully get back to the Eastern Oval,
03:37where we play pretty well.
03:38A bit more of a contested game.
03:40And we're able to, you know, get the game on our terms.
03:42And we'll level a three-quarter time against them last time.
03:45They just ran away with it.
03:45So, I think we take a lot of confidence in that.
03:48They've got some super players.
03:49So do we.
03:50But we'll review today's game, see where we can get better.
03:52And maybe combine that with the Sunbury game from last time
03:56and train for that over the next two weeks.
