DONETSK, June 27, 2025 — For the first time since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian forces have destroyed a rare North Korean M1991 long-range multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) operated by Russian troops in the Donetsk region.
The strike was carried out by soldiers from Ukraine’s "Raid" battalion, a unit specialized in unmanned systems. According to a video published on the battalion’s official Telegram channel, the target was hit by a remotely detonated attack drone.
The footage captures the moment the UAV strikes one of the rockets in the launcher pod, triggering the accidental launch of a missile that pierces the vehicle’s cabin. The impact then causes a fire and a catastrophic explosion, completely destroying the system.
