00:00Well, I might be getting some of my own medicine today, you know, so I better get this body armor,
00:10you know, no artificial ingredients, no dyes, just all natural, you know, that's why body armor is
00:17the best at keeping you hydrated. You know, choose better, choose body armor. And this guest, well,
00:24he spent two seasons with the Mets and mentioned me in his retirement speech. I'm talking about
00:29Trevor May, you know, Trevor, what do you say? Let's go for a walk. Of course, I got a nice
00:38little shirt for you, too. Hell yeah. Bellbow in the Barstool Sports Store? Let's go for a walk.
00:48Let's do it.
00:59All right. Now, I love the Mets, but I know there's, I know I go over the top. I just feel
01:15emotional when they lose. The first question I have is, and I know my videos get viral,
01:23and I know there's a, and I don't blame anyone for it, a resentment. What is it like for the
01:33players on the team when I just go nuclear? I'll be honest. The vast majority of them love
01:42it. Like, they just think it's, they don't take it too seriously. But like you just said,
01:47I'm a little bit different because you get emotional about the Mets, and I get emotional
01:52about my own play. And those two things together maybe turn into, I don't know, yelling at each
01:58other on Twitter, which is easy when we're just two pictures yelling, right? But yeah,
02:04man, I have a really strong, I have really strong reactions just like you do, but it's usually
02:10attached to me and not the team. And that, that plagued me my whole career. But for the
02:16most part, like Danny Vogelback thought you were hilarious, like loved it. Oh, really?
02:20Yeah. Yeah, we should say, hey, that's what Frank said. I can't believe that. Yeah. He thought
02:25you were hilarious. Most guys do think you're hilarious, and trust me, it's, it's. Because
02:29golly, I think, I think, I think he's the one guy who could probably be in a foot race.
02:35Maybe. He never did get that steal, did he?
02:40Never did get that steal. Well, that's because Adam Adovino was on the Mets. If Adam Adovino
02:45was on the mound, he probably could have got that steal. That's a great point. That's a
02:50great point. That guy led, what did he, he led the league every year in stolen bases given
02:55up for all pitchers. Oh, yeah. Not just relievers, all pitchers. He knows. I've talked to him
03:00about it a lot. He knows. Well, he's going to be in the media now. Yes, he is. I know about
03:06that as well. Now, he's a good one. You had a nice career as a set-up man, reliever. Yeah.
03:13Twins, Mets, and, well, you're sort of in the majors at the end of the year. Yeah. Out
03:21here in Oakland. Yeah. Yeah, I hear that. Yeah, I mean, I look back and I say, was I ever going
03:30to be in the Hall of Fame? No. So, it was just about trying to do the job every day, and I
03:34thought I did a fairly good job, and there were times where things didn't go well, but
03:40I actually, in that same kind of spirit, I have had many people tell me that they want
03:47me to ask you this question. All right. So, there is that, I don't know if you saw, but
03:51I just recently did the LOL Mets video. Yes. Where I broke down the whole history, at least
03:57since the Bobby Bonilla thing, and then since then. So, just since 2000. I didn't know half
04:04this stuff. So, first of all, I did not give it, I did not give you enough credit for the
04:10things you've gone through. But second, I found that the tweet said Trevor May is just, Trevor
04:16May is not good, which I just thought was straight to the point. Hard to refute. But, what's your
04:24what's your favorite memory of me? Positive. What's your favorite positive memory of me
04:29pitching? Do you even have one? Is there a moment where I got the job done and you were
04:33like, let's go, Trevor? You just didn't tweet it? That, probably five out of eight times,
04:40at least, they brought you in a game, and you got the job done. It wasn't like you were, it
04:48wasn't like you just imploded every time. Yeah. It was like, you pretty much were close to being
04:55almost automatically reliable. Yeah. The problem is, like, read Garrett. I think he's just out of gas,
05:04and he was so great, and now all of a sudden, you can't get anyone out. Yeah. You go through those.
05:11We just talked about Adovino. He would go from lights out in 22, struggle in 23. It's like, life
05:19a reliever, man. One little thing gets off, and you give up some runs in three or four outings,
05:23and your whole year is fun. And that was never fun. So, I'll take that, kind of as a positive.
05:32Five out of eight times, I did the job. 67% rate, I'll take it. It wasn't, you weren't the type of
05:39pitcher, guys, when you came in a bullpen in the game, it was like, oh, shit. I get it. I wasn't,
05:45I wasn't 20-22 sugar, okay? Not everyone can be 20-22 sugar. I mean, Adam Adovino, he came in the
05:51game last year, he was like, oh, shit. Yeah. Out the lead goes. It's funny, if you told him that, I think he
05:56would say, there was a point in time where I was like, oh, shit. And we do feel that sometimes.
06:01We're human. We wish we didn't, but we do. Now, I like when you retired. Yeah. You, like, went.
06:08Scorcher. You went, like, right after John Fisher. Oh, yeah. I think that guy is a blight on
06:16baseball. I agree. A blight. I agree. Now, whether or not Oakland is a city capable of being a
06:26major league franchise anymore. Yeah. Okay, that's... There's a debate there, right? There's a debate
06:31there. Yeah. The city is kind of broken down. Yeah. The stadium needed to be replaced. Yeah,
06:37absolutely. The Giants played a role in this, too. Of course. You know the Giants? The San
06:43Francisco Giants. And last week, when the A's went out to San Francisco this year, they did this holding
06:48we're welcoming Oakland fans, playing celebration, celebrate Oakland. Yeah. It was the biggest
06:53phony, hypocritical thing I've seen a franchise do that was sickening. Yes, the San Francisco
06:58Giants blocked that team from moving to the San Jose, which would have been, you know, maybe
07:04bad for some people in Oakland might have been sore. But, you know, the fans in that Bay Area
07:09could have still had their team. Yeah. Yeah. Sacramento's definitely farther away. And not a...
07:15It's not a great venue. It's not Vegas. It's not Vegas. But, at least San Jose, you got the chips
07:23out there, the computer chips. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I mean, they could have drawn there 100%. And
07:30it would have been about the same distance from, like, the same rivalry, same everything. It would have
07:34stayed the same. Yeah, the rivalry would have been the same. But the Giants took advantage of the A's
07:38in the 80s where, oh, you mind us building a minor league team in San Jose? And the A's
07:43were, when they were at the top of their game, said, yeah, you know what? We shared a bag.
07:48No, you can do that. Yeah. And then the Giants said, well, we now own the rights
07:53to San Jose and block them. So that's sort of a bad guy here. And then you got the commissioner.
07:59I hate that guy. I know. I know you do. I hate that guy. Who are you? You know, I don't even call
08:07he is not Rob the Manfred in me. He is Rob Manfraud.
08:11Knew it. Yes. He is Rob Manfraud. Because this guy, I don't think he actually
08:18reveres baseball. I don't think he likes baseball. And I think he, what he allows these owners
08:25to do. And I'm afraid for 2027 what's coming. Yeah. I'm afraid for what's coming in 2027.
08:32Because it looks like he's trying to do a war chess and he does not care if the sport
08:37shuts down for two or three years. Because he doesn't care about baseball. He doesn't
08:41like the sport. And he wants the sport to be completely changed. So we have more owners
08:45like Bob Nutting. More owners like John Fisher. The Marlins. The Marlins are a joke. The Marlins
08:52are the only owner. The Marlins, as soon as the guy starts to get good. Oh, we might have
08:55to give him some money when it comes to arbitration. No, you're off the team. They don't get anybody
09:00back. They try for all, like, 18-year-olds in their dead last place all the time. You know
09:05the Rays? What do you mean? They signed Tim Anderson two years ago. Yeah. Washed up Tim Anderson
09:11who nobody wanted anymore. I mean, it's, it's, they don't even try. Pittsburgh,
09:17I know Paul Skeets is, he is looking at, he is looking at his calendar every day. Like
09:22it's a prisoner getting ready to get out when he, as soon as he is eligible to be a free
09:27agent. But he's not going to get there. No shot. As soon as he's arbitration eligible.
09:31In fact, just, just, Pittsburgh, just trade him now. Get a thousand picks. Maybe you'll get
09:37enough picks where you actually compete for two years. But of course, when those guys get
09:40good, you'll trade them too. Yes. You're, you're, you're a lousy pathetic owner. I say
09:45any team that takes money, revenue sharing, if they can't make a 50 million or at least
09:5070, maybe 70 million payroll, if they can't get to that level, they shouldn't get one dime.
09:56These, these owners, these Bob Nuttings, these John Fishers and John Fisher, what a con man
10:02he is. John Fisher, you know, John Fisher, I, I, I, I'm not going to say that Oakland, Oakland
10:09was not a great place. But Vegas is going to know. Vegas is going to know. The best thing
10:13that can happen to the sport is, and, and, and God forbid he gets a billion dollars, but
10:17you know, that sounded the way of the game. The best thing that can happen to baseball
10:21is when that team moves to Vegas, he sells the team one year later and gets out. Because
10:25John Fisher is a blight on the game. Bob Nutting is a blight on the game. I don't even know
10:29who owns the Marlins. I don't either. There's like 500 owners in Marlins, which is the problem.
10:35There's no one to make any decisions. I mean, it's, it's, yeah, it's crazy. And then they
10:41didn't listen to him. They didn't listen to him and then he's gone. Kim Ang, she was,
10:45uh, looked like she had to do what she was doing. She's gone. I mean, these franchises don't
10:50even try to compete. I mean, the Rockies made some mistakes. That's a little unfortunate.
10:57At least it seems like their owner is a fan of their team. Hold on a second. Anyway, where were we?
11:03Uh, owners. Owners. Yeah. Are just rotten for the game. And some of them are. Well, I'm not
11:10talking about Steve Cohen. Yeah. Obviously. I'm not talking about the Dodgers. I'm not talking
11:16about the teams that try to compete or I'm talking about these garbage owners whose teams
11:20will always be in last place and just don't spend a dime. You know, they make money. They
11:26make money. These teams make money. And they say, Oh, the game's unfair. You know, don't
11:33spend to the level of the Mets, the Dodgers. You could still be good and compete. The Brewers
11:38compete. Yeah. I mean, uh, they don't spend a whole lot of money. I mean, the Rays, they're
11:43always pretty damn good. They got some good ownership. They get some good scouting. Yeah.
11:50They don't sign the big names. But hey, they. Guardians compete. Guardians compete. It's
11:55not that hard. You just draft well and then you try to keep your players and maybe put in
12:00a few pieces here and there and you can make a playoff run like the Texas Rangers did last
12:04year or the year before, I should say 2023. But you win one championship, it's worth forever.
12:14And they just don't, they just so, this guy in Pittsburgh is a clown. Yeah. Because I
12:19know people want to buy that team. He just refuses to sell it. It's free money, man. It
12:24makes money every, if you hear any owner ever say that they lost money, they're lying. No
12:29one's lost money in years. Not a single team has not made money, which is just, I'm tired
12:36of it, but you'll never be able to prove it because they'll never prove anything.
12:38And then you got the situation where teams are playing in minor league ballparks. The
12:43Rays is understandable. At least they're playing in a spring training home. Yeah. They
12:46got hit by a storm. Like they weren't planning on this, but yeah, but I'm glad they're getting
12:53looks like they're going to be sold. Yeah. And hopefully the best thing that can happen
12:57to that organization, build a ballpark in Tampa proper. Yes. Build a ballpark in
13:02Tampa proper. St. Pete, they just are, it's so hard to get out to St. Pete for these fans
13:10in Tampa. Have you, have you gone down? Yes. Yeah. By the way, that stadium has all the charm
13:15of watching baseball inside of Costco. Yeah. It feels like an Amazon warehouse and also playing
13:23on it. It feels like you're playing on the concrete floor of an Amazon warehouse. My back blows out
13:28every time I run there. I mean, I mean, that place is, I, uh, but yeah, these owners, these,
13:36and I know too, and I, and I, I, man fraud is going to say, Oh, we don't have a good TV
13:41contract. Yeah. Well, you see, don't, you don't want to have a good TV contract. You don't
13:47want to have a good TV contract. I mean, it's, and, and, and yet last year record, record
13:55revenues, record profits. Yes. I mean, uh, so, but Hey, is there any rule changes that you
14:01do like pitch clock? I've, I got to admit I came around on it. Well, now I don't have
14:07to deal with it anymore. It, it messed me up, but once I figured it out, I liked it.
14:11I could tell it messed you guys up. Oh yeah. Well, the worst thing is in 2023. All the
14:16old guys got messed up. Is they had to do the stupid world baseball classic. Not a big
14:23fan of the world baseball classic. Because it interrupts spring training. You guys should
14:27be working up slowly. Yeah. Not being thrown into, not being thrown into, uh, these international
14:40games. Yeah. And I know the Americans, it's like what, let's just play spring training
14:45games. Yeah. Yeah. But for like the Dominican players, Japanese players, it's, it's like,
14:49Oh, we got to win this. Yeah. And that's understandable. Would you like it better if it were at a different
14:54time? I don't know when you would do it, but like just not in spring training. I'll tell
14:57you when. And it might be, uh, I don't know if you'll have the same things or the same
15:03issues. November. November. David, you used to, uh, remember you used to send the, uh,
15:09major league all-stars to Japan in November? Oh yeah. Do it like that. Yeah. November.
15:14I mean, all the, all the Latin guys are going to play winter ball anyways. They're going to play
15:17they're going to play more anyways, honestly. November. Uh, and after the world series,
15:22November, I think you'd get a better tournament. I also think, and this is, uh, something that
15:30they should really think about shutting baseball down for three weeks in the middle, right?
15:36In, uh, July. Yeah. Or August in, uh, 20, 28. Bring the major leaguers to the Olympics.
15:45Wouldn't that be fun? It's in LA. It'd be sick. It'd be so much fun. Bring the major leaguers to the Olympics.
15:50Uh, and think about the money, Rob. Oh. Think about all that money.
15:55But the guy doesn't know how to sell the game. And I've known this for 40 years.
16:00Major league owners are queasy when major leaguers get endorsement deals. That sells the game.
16:11The NBA figured it out years ago. Yeah. They'd order athletes on commercials. Major league baseball.
16:18Oh, I don't really like this guy on commercials. They might make his contract value go up.
16:23No. You're selling the game. But, uh, yeah. Oh. You know, that water's not very good, you know?
16:30You really should choose better. Especially on a hot day like this. I mean, look at that. Here we go. Body armor chill.
16:37That thing really will frustrate you and really hijack you. Feel really better.
16:41Chill. That word's hitting different on a 90 degree day like this. Oh, yes. Okay. All right.
16:46Choose better. Choose body armor. Oh.
16:50Yeah, I know you're working on your Twitch. Yeah. How's that going? My, uh, the YouTube channel's going really good.
16:59Hey, I got my live show I do every Monday where we do updates. I bring in guests. If you're ever interested, you're going to be my Mets guy.
17:06All you have to do is nod your head. All right, yeah. I need your take, especially with how the team's doing this year.
17:12Well, lately, not so well. Yeah. Great timing for this walk, huh? God, it just.
17:19Well, am I going to cover the Sunday night game? I'm going to probably livestream it. Even though it's against Game 7. I mean, uh.
17:28Oh, it is against Game 7, isn't it? Yeah. Although Game 7 begins at, what, 8? Yeah.
17:32So, by the time you add the, uh, maybe the second half, you can watch the, uh, watch me. There you go.
17:36And then watch the second half. But this, you're not even going to see this. It's going to be, you know, in a couple of weeks anyway.
17:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, yeah. But I livestream from time to time. I do that.
17:48Okay. Hopefully the Mets will win a livestream when I do it. But, uh.
17:53When was the last time they won on a livestream? The last time they won?
17:56Yeah. Did they lose every time you livestream or something?
17:59No, they actually, the last game they won was the last livestream I did.
18:02Oh, hell yeah. Well, they may have to do it more.
18:06I just had a busy week, so I really couldn't do a livestream, so.
18:09Gotcha, gotcha.
18:10But, uh, yeah, I try to do it all the time. At least once a week.
18:14How are you voting in the election?
18:15But, uh, well, thanks for joining me.
18:18Of course.
18:19And, of course, you know, I might have been critical sometimes.
18:23But, overall, I would say you were a good man.
18:27Are you gonna be there, uh, on the, uh, the, having an old-timers game this year?
18:32I'm not doing the old-timers game. But I will, I'm coming a day early next week, too, to do another thing.
18:38So I might actually go to the Saturday game.
18:40All right.
18:41Is it, uh, the Met game Saturday?
18:42Yeah.
18:43Is it Yankees?
18:44Yeah.
18:45I'll be there.
18:46City, uh...
18:47Oh, it's Met-Yankees, too. Hell yeah.
18:48Yeah.
18:49It's gonna be City, uh, Field Mets against City Stadium Mets in September.
18:54They're gonna have, like, a two-inning game.
18:56Dude, that's gonna be a tough one.
18:57I was just gonna go take the seven line.
18:58I'll show up with a gold card and just try to get a ticket.
19:01See what happens.
19:02But they do have an allotment that just sits outside for those.
19:04So I'm kind of guaranteed to get in.
19:06But, yeah, it's, uh, Mets-Yankees next, uh...
19:08Oh, hell yeah.
19:09Fourth of July weekend.
19:10That's a fun one.
19:11That's a fun one.
19:13Sick.
19:15Have you ever considered, uh...
19:18Maybe, uh, this has been mentioned to you.
19:22I genuinely think you could sell tickets to go up on a stage
19:27and people could throw you things to rant about and you could just go off.
19:30I could probably do that.
19:31Maybe get a Yankees guy and a Red Sox guy to sit with you and you can all rant.
19:38I don't think he needs props.
19:40Just give him a mic and you're good.
19:42Yeah.
19:43Oh, that was awesome.
19:44Uh...
19:45So, let's go.
19:46Uh...
19:47Uh...
19:48Uh...
19:49Uh...
19:50Uh...
19:51Uh...
19:52Uh...
19:53Uh...
19:54Uh...
19:55Uh...
