00:00:00There's nothing else like it, this kind of connection in the world and how lucky we are to be twins.
00:00:06One soul, two people.
00:00:08We are a larger team.
00:00:10Identical twins.
00:00:12They're more common than you think.
00:00:16Feels like we've got this thing where we make one person.
00:00:20In fact, one in every 250 pregnancies in Australia result in identical twins.
00:00:26And almost everything we know about genetics, we've learnt from them.
00:00:32Twins really are a gift to medical science.
00:00:34But can some twins be more identical than others?
00:00:37Our parents couldn't tell us apart.
00:00:40We've gathered 100 pairs of identical twins from across Australia.
00:00:46Young and old.
00:00:48From all walks of life.
00:00:50Across two massive nights.
00:00:53We'll prove just how alike they are.
00:00:56Through a series of revealing tests and challenges.
00:01:03We're more twinny than you thought.
00:01:05Push out now, push out.
00:01:06He'll die.
00:01:07Twinkle, twinkle, little star.
00:01:09Make it stop.
00:01:11Do they think the same?
00:01:12I think definitely we do have a bit of twin telepathy going on.
00:01:15Feel the same?
00:01:16Would you rather, men or women?
00:01:18I think we're going to be different on this one.
00:01:20Are they physically identical?
00:01:22Does this tell us who's better looking?
00:01:23What about their creative sides?
00:01:25Oh my God, what is that?
00:01:27I was actually mind blown.
00:01:29We'll even put them in situations to test if others can tell them apart.
00:01:34Am I getting set up?
00:01:36I got completely done.
00:01:38All designed to gather data to determine just how identical they are.
00:01:45Oh yes, we're the most identical.
00:01:48Have a look at this slot here.
00:01:51I'm Scott Cam and I'll be joined by former Olympian, Dr. Yana Pittman.
00:01:56Hi, well, we're both parents of twins.
00:02:00Can my twins read each other's minds?
00:02:04And here from the UK, to set the challenges, are identical twins, Dr. Zahn and Dr. Chris Van
00:02:10Tullican.
00:02:12You won't believe what we discover.
00:02:14Together with our twin experts, we'll answer some big questions.
00:02:19Is there a gay gene?
00:02:21As we explore the deep twin connection, have any of you thought about what it would be
00:02:27like if one of your siblings passed away?
00:02:32I would feel less whole.
00:02:33I actually don't know how I would cope.
00:02:35There's no one else that knows you like your twin.
00:02:38Tonight, we'll narrow the playing field from 100 sets of twins to a top 20.
00:02:45Could you get any more identical than this?
00:02:46Then a top eight.
00:02:48Woo!
00:02:49Beat that, girlfriend!
00:02:50It's double trouble.
00:02:52Yeah!
00:02:53And twice the fun.
00:02:55Oh, my God.
00:02:56This person is the most important.
00:02:59Join us as we begin our search for Australia's most identical.
00:03:05We've always enjoyed being twins.
00:03:23Pretty much everything we do is exactly the same.
00:03:26We climb together, we run together, we swim together.
00:03:30You've always got a good mate, you know, by your side.
00:03:33We couldn't imagine life without each other.
00:03:36And the thought of it, you can't actually go there.
00:03:39Do we always talk together at the same time?
00:03:42Uh, sometimes, yes.
00:03:44There we go.
00:03:46We feel that we're really identical.
00:03:48I think, you know, to the most part, we'd be probably in the 90% soul.
00:03:52Obviously very similar.
00:03:53Yeah.
00:03:53We've got the chemistry.
00:03:54Yeah.
00:03:55We spend a lot of time trying to be different because we get sick of being the same.
00:04:00Ooh, Australia's most identical.
00:04:03I think we'd go close.
00:04:04Yeah.
00:04:05Why not?
00:04:05I reckon we are.
00:04:07I think we're very identical.
00:04:08Physicality, competitiveness, a lot of our personalities are very similar.
00:04:13Absolutely, we could be the most identical twins in Australia.
00:04:16CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:04:18G'day and welcome to Australia's most identical.
00:04:28Have a look at this lot here.
00:04:30Double trouble times 100.
00:04:32CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:04:34We're about to put all of them, 100 sets of identical twins,
00:04:41from right around the country, through a bunch of revealing tests and challenges
00:04:46designed to help us find out which pair is Australia's most identical.
00:04:52And joining me is Dr. Olympian and mum of twin babies, Dr. Yana Pittman.
00:04:58CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:04:59Guys, Doddy, this really is one that is close to my heart, being a twin mum.
00:05:10There they are, my beautiful babies.
00:05:12Very beautiful.
00:05:13But twins really are a gift to medical science
00:05:15because it lets us look at the rest of us,
00:05:16the whole nature versus nurture argument.
00:05:19And we're very lucky, because to answer those questions and more,
00:05:23we've got some twin experts here with us from Melbourne Uni,
00:05:27neuropsychologist Professor Sarah Wilson
00:05:29and Professor Geoff Craig from Twins Research Australia.
00:05:33Welcome, guys.
00:05:35APPLAUSE
00:05:36Sarah, it seems like a bit of an obvious question.
00:05:42Why are identical twins so special?
00:05:44They're almost a genetic match.
00:05:47And so what this means is we can compare identical twins
00:05:50to non-identical twins who only share 50% of their genes.
00:05:55And this can tell us about the role of genes in how we are who we are
00:06:00compared to the environment,
00:06:02both our family upbringing and our unique environment.
00:06:05So, basically, they make it possible for us to have a look at ourselves.
00:06:09That's correct.
00:06:12APPLAUSE
00:06:12I'm just going to ask a few questions to some of our twins.
00:06:17Tim and Nick, what do you love about being identical twins?
00:06:21I think what we love the most is just having, like, a best friend,
00:06:24someone who can really support you through the ups and downs
00:06:27and someone you can kind of confide in no matter what.
00:06:29Justine and Jodie, what's most special about being twins?
00:06:32Just having your soul mate with you and your best friend all of the time.
00:06:38We just get to share everything in life.
00:06:40Yeah.
00:06:40It's amazing.
00:06:40It's amazing.
00:06:41Janice and Sonia, how identical do you think you guys are?
00:06:45Do you think you look the same?
00:06:46I don't think any twin here thinks they look the same as their twin.
00:06:50Well, trust me, you do.
00:06:50Our dad gets us mixed up, so pretty identical, I think.
00:06:55Rightio.
00:06:56Well, we're about to put all of you through a bunch of challenges
00:06:59designed to help us find out how identical you guys are.
00:07:03And by the end of tonight...
00:07:05..based on the challenge results and our experts' analysis...
00:07:08..we will announce our top eight.
00:07:12APPLAUSE
00:07:13Now, do you want to know what you win
00:07:17if you become Australia's most identical twin?
00:07:20Do you want to know what you win?
00:07:21Yeah!
00:07:24Absolutely nothing!
00:07:27You've got bragging rights.
00:07:28And, of course, this sexy trophy over here.
00:07:33Don't panic.
00:07:34It splits in half.
00:07:35So you get a bit each.
00:07:37LAUGHTER
00:07:37Well, let's get stuck in.
00:07:43It's time to meet the masterminds behind these challenges.
00:07:46We've flown them in from the UK
00:07:48to share their wealth of twin knowledge.
00:07:51Please welcome Dr. Zand and Dr. Chris.
00:07:55CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
00:07:56Thanks, Scott.
00:07:58Now, Zand and I are actually identical twins too,
00:08:01although you might find it hard to believe
00:08:03because, of course, I tower over him
00:08:05by a full six millimetres.
00:08:08Well, with my magnificent head of hair,
00:08:10you might not even think we're related at all.
00:08:13LAUGHTER
00:08:13And as the brains of this operation,
00:08:16I can tell you that first,
00:08:18we wanted to narrow our search
00:08:20from 100 sets of twins to our top 20.
00:08:22So how do we do it?
00:08:24So we've got 35.4 kilos of muscle mass.
00:08:27Yes, I've got more muscle.
00:08:28We put them through a series of preliminary tests
00:08:31designed to tell us how identical they are physically.
00:08:34I always thought you were maybe slightly taller,
00:08:36but today I identify, I'm slightly taller.
00:08:40The 20 that were the most identical advanced forward.
00:08:43Oh, my God, it's only 400 grams difference between you guys.
00:08:46We began with biometric tests,
00:08:49which showed how similar they are in height.
00:08:51So you're 156.7.
00:08:53She's slightly taller than you.
00:08:55Weight and body mass.
00:08:57You guys are very, very similar.
00:08:59So 100 grams difference.
00:09:01Then we tested their handedness.
00:09:04Are they both left- or right-handed, or are they different?
00:09:08You skate goofy, don't you, Mitch?
00:09:09And we looked at which foot they favour.
00:09:12Oh, we're not dressed for this.
00:09:14We also compared their strength.
00:09:16LAUGHTER
00:09:16Any set of twins will be competitive.
00:09:19If they say they're not, that's totally not true.
00:09:21Go, go, go, go. Push on, push on.
00:09:23And fitness in the gym.
00:09:25He'll die.
00:09:26I'm gonna beat you.
00:09:27A classic arcade dance machine showed us how close they were in coordination.
00:09:32Excellent!
00:09:33Sarah's the better dancer.
00:09:35Just thigh a little bit.
00:09:36Ah!
00:09:38Ah, the same.
00:09:39We were equally as bad as each other.
00:09:41We also used fingerprint technology.
00:09:45So just put them down side by side next to each other.
00:09:47Identical twins' fingerprints are far more similar than regular siblings,
00:09:52and we wanted to see how close each pair was.
00:09:55So even though they're identical, you guys still have different fingerprints,
00:09:59so if you commit a crime, we'd still be able to get you.
00:10:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:03Using all of this information,
00:10:05we were able to determine who are our top 20 most identical.
00:10:09Now it's time to put these 20 sets of twins through their paces,
00:10:14with a series of challenges as we look to reduce the numbers to a top eight.
00:10:22Now we know that genetic research on twins provides us with important information
00:10:26for everyone's health and well-being.
00:10:29Obviously genes are responsible for why our twins look so alike on the outside,
00:10:33but when it comes to what's inside,
00:10:35how much is shaped by genetics and how much is down to life experience?
00:10:39This leads us to our first challenge, Q and A.
00:10:44Wow, would you rather.
00:10:47Oh, I love would you rather.
00:10:49That's going to be fun.
00:10:51In this challenge, we want to look at how identical our twins are
00:10:54in their core values and beliefs.
00:10:57We generally don't answer questions without a lawyer present.
00:11:02We've asked our top 20 sets of twins the same 10 questions,
00:11:06covering a whole cross-section of life.
00:11:09Would you rather.
00:11:10If they answer the same, it's a green light and a point.
00:11:14But if their answers differ, they're in the red.
00:11:19If they want to make our top eight,
00:11:21they'll need as high a score as possible out of 10.
00:11:24Would you rather.
00:11:30Do you drink as well, or...?
00:11:32First to step up in this challenge are 32-year-old tradies Marcel and Jim from Victoria.
00:11:40Now, these two have more than genetics in common.
00:11:43We live together, we work together, we have the same good friends.
00:11:48Why am I charging you?
00:11:49We have the same interests and hobbies.
00:11:52Pretty sure that's as close as you want to get.
00:11:54I mean, yeah.
00:11:55All the time, people confuse us and mix up who's who.
00:12:02Even people at work, like Foremans, think they've spoken to me about something to fix.
00:12:07And then they go to him and then he's like,
00:12:08I've got no idea what you're talking about.
00:12:10Literally no idea what you're doing about.
00:12:14What scares me, I reckon losing him.
00:12:18If I lost my twin, I don't know how, I actually don't know how I would cope.
00:12:23It's like losing a brother or a best friend
00:12:25and someone that you've literally had is your second conscience your whole life.
00:12:30I'd be pretty gone for a while.
00:12:33I just wouldn't understand life because it wouldn't feel the same.
00:12:38Marcel and Jim, they lead very similar lives,
00:12:42but how closely matched are their values and their beliefs?
00:12:47Time for our first out of ten questions.
00:12:49Good luck, boys.
00:12:51Would you rather?
00:12:53Oh, that started straight away.
00:12:55A, keep it tidy.
00:12:57B, leave a mess.
00:12:59That's pretty easy.
00:12:59That's the easy one.
00:13:02Green, okay, yeah, we're going to rot.
00:13:03Even though you leave a mess.
00:13:05No, I'd rather keep it tidy, though.
00:13:07A, last minute rush.
00:13:10B, slow and steady.
00:13:12I know which one we always do.
00:13:17I thought there was going to be a few where we'd get different answers.
00:13:19We ended up picking them pretty quick.
00:13:26These two really are identical.
00:13:28That's nine out of nine so far.
00:13:30Can we make it a perfect ten out of ten?
00:13:33A, dive in head first.
00:13:36B, test the waters.
00:13:40Same time.
00:13:41Yee-haw!
00:13:42That sounds real.
00:13:44Cowboy in.
00:13:45Yeah.
00:13:46That's a perfect ten out of ten for our tradie twins from Victoria.
00:13:50Well done.
00:13:52That was an easy one.
00:13:53That was good.
00:13:54Let's go.
00:13:56Good luck to the other guys.
00:13:59Next in line are op shop loving teachers from WA Yvette and Linda.
00:14:04Now these sisters are also extremely close.
00:14:07But they have a bit more life experience than some of our other pairs.
00:14:11I can't wait either.
00:14:12My fingers are tingling.
00:14:13So excited.
00:14:14Me too.
00:14:15Let's do it.
00:14:16I love being a twin.
00:14:18It is the best thing in the world.
00:14:20It's like winning lottery.
00:14:21Okay.
00:14:22Come over here.
00:14:22This one over here.
00:14:23Look at this little one.
00:14:25I've got my buddy, my friend, always.
00:14:27Look at that.
00:14:28I know.
00:14:29I'm not wearing that.
00:14:30It looks like mum's 90.
00:14:31Oh, he doesn't.
00:14:31It's very different to having just a sister.
00:14:38We see each other every day.
00:14:41That is the biggest joy of my life.
00:14:45And I've been sick.
00:14:48In 2012 I had breast cancer so I did six months of chemo.
00:14:52And then I found out I had bowel cancer.
00:14:55That was...
00:14:56That just...
00:14:57That was really gut-wrenching.
00:15:01But you never really showed any worry for me.
00:15:07And showing no worry is the best type of medicine.
00:15:13Oh!
00:15:17Life is fantastic with each other and each other.
00:15:21Really.
00:15:23Because it has purpose.
00:15:25Seeing you makes me feel good.
00:15:28I don't need anything else but my twin.
00:15:30Oh!
00:15:31Oh my gosh!
00:15:33Working at different schools, living separately and having different families, Yvette with
00:15:37three kids, Linda with two, we'll find out if this impacts how identical they are in values
00:15:43and beliefs.
00:15:45What do you think they're going to ask us?
00:15:47I don't know.
00:15:48Would you rather be your sister?
00:15:50Oh!
00:15:50Yes!
00:15:52I think we're really identical.
00:15:53Would you rather...
00:15:56A. Wake up early.
00:15:59Oh!
00:16:01B. Stay up late.
00:16:03I know what this one is.
00:16:04This is an easy one!
00:16:08Yeah, it was an easy one.
00:16:10A. Five-year plan.
00:16:12B. Go with the flow.
00:16:13Oh!
00:16:14Oh!
00:16:16Don't like these questions!
00:16:17Yeah, I'm ready.
00:16:19Yeah, I'm ready.
00:16:20Ha, ha, ha!
00:16:21Go!
00:16:22I think we got that one wrong.
00:16:24Yeah.
00:16:25You go with the...
00:16:26You don't go with the flow!
00:16:27Well, yeah, I do.
00:16:28You do not.
00:16:29I do.
00:16:30No, you don't.
00:16:31No, I do go with the flow.
00:16:32All right, yeah.
00:16:33All right.
00:16:34Yvette and Linda went on to answer eight from ten the same.
00:16:41An extremely close result for our school teachers from WA.
00:16:45All right, come on.
00:16:46That was fun.
00:16:49They weren't the only ones with similar values and beliefs.
00:16:52I reckon we'll get it 100% equally the same.
00:16:55A. Last minute rush.
00:16:57B. Slow and steady.
00:16:59You never get ready in time, ever.
00:17:01So I know what we're going to do.
00:17:02Tick-tock personalities Jason and Jaden also answered nine out of ten the same.
00:17:08B. B. B.
00:17:10Whilst Navy officers Tim and Midge scored eight.
00:17:13B. B. B. Just get on with it, mate.
00:17:15Yeah, get on with it, yeah.
00:17:15Yeah.
00:17:16B. As did electrical engineers Hamid and Mahdi,
00:17:20who migrated to Australia from Iran six years ago to set up their own business.
00:17:26Hamid talks to the customer and he says, are you twins?
00:17:30Hamid says, no, I made a copy myself just this morning to help me and then just...
00:17:35B. B. It will last Monday, that's it.
00:17:37B. B. Expires Monday.
00:17:38B. B. Plastic, plastic.
00:17:42B. They came here with a unique dream to one day marry twin sisters.
00:17:47B. Even before coming to Australia, we had this plan to live together.
00:17:51B. Even we were thinking about to marry twin sisters.
00:17:56B. After years of searching online, they made a connection on Instagram, finding identical
00:18:02twin sisters, Nanid and Muznini, back in Iran.
00:18:07The rest, as they say, is history and the fairy tale wedding became a reality.
00:18:13B. A dream came true.
00:18:20B. Two couples, just like a mirror, just like a mirror, just working together.
00:18:25B. And finally, we live together in the same house in Western Sydney.
00:18:30B. It's you.
00:18:31B. I like this part, you know?
00:18:34B. You look handsome.
00:18:36B. I think it's really good.
00:18:38B. Yeah.
00:18:39B. We support each other always.
00:18:41B. We are like a team.
00:18:42B. Yeah.
00:18:43B. Yeah.
00:18:44B. Interestingly, if these two teams had children, they would, of course, officially
00:18:49be first cousins.
00:18:50B. But they would actually have the same DNA as siblings.
00:18:54B. Hope you're having a good day today.
00:18:56B. With only 300 recorded cases in history of identical twins,
00:19:00this outcome would be extremely rare.
00:19:13Now, this challenge is like all those topics that you're never supposed to raise
00:19:17at a dinner party.
00:19:18The first one being religion.
00:19:21B. There must be a God.
00:19:23B. I'm not convinced.
00:19:25Whether they agreed...
00:19:30..or disagreed...
00:19:33I'm not convinced there must be a God.
00:19:35Can we do it that way?
00:19:38Sophie's armpits are one evidence that we came from apes.
00:19:43..one thing's for sure.
00:19:45Yep.
00:19:4619 out of 20 answered this question...
00:19:49..the same.
00:19:51Despite looking like Jesus...
00:19:55..an even more controversial question than religion was...
00:19:59..chocolate.
00:20:00Eat all the chocolate, hide it for later.
00:20:05If we had eaten all the chocolate,
00:20:08then we would have got cavities
00:20:10and then we'd have to go to the dentist quickly.
00:20:14Yeah, you're correct.
00:20:18Oh, my gosh, this is a no-brainer.
00:20:21F***!
00:20:26Who hides it for later?
00:20:27Nobody does that.
00:20:29You forget where you hit it.
00:20:31Well, one thing we can't hide is the results of this challenge.
00:20:35And those who scored the highest
00:20:37have taken the first step towards making our top eight.
00:20:41coming up on Australia's Most Identical, we ask an age-old question.
00:20:52Is there a gay gene?
00:20:54Stacc?
00:20:55Mel, Mel.
00:20:55Some familiar faces join us, travel guide twins Stacc and Mel.
00:21:02Look at the bags under my eyes.
00:21:04You could go grocery shopping with them.
00:21:06Our twins may look identical.
00:21:07Our parents couldn't tell us apart.
00:21:09I will confirm how closely matched they really are.
00:21:12In the green, that's pretty much where you're identical.
00:21:15That's all within a millimetre.
00:21:16This is great!
00:21:17Yeah!
00:21:18Later in the show...
00:21:19Chocolate!
00:21:20As the challenges continue, we'll analyse the data and our top eight Most Identical Twins
00:21:27will be revealed.
00:21:28Are we ever fancied the same men?
00:21:45Definitely not.
00:21:46Yes.
00:21:47Well, I'm gay and I came out in my mid-twenties, but maybe when we were super young?
00:21:52Sometimes we have fancied the same men and in some cases it's meant that one of us misses
00:21:57out.
00:21:58I think we've got different tastes, actually.
00:22:00Celebrity crushes we've got.
00:22:01Yeah.
00:22:02That's the same.
00:22:03I don't think her boyfriend is attractive and she doesn't think my boyfriend's attractive.
00:22:05Yes.
00:22:06We wrote a letter to one guy from Janice and Sonia.
00:22:10We like you from...
00:22:11Yeah, that's enough.
00:22:12Yeah.
00:22:13Welcome back to Australia's Most Identical.
00:22:19Before the break...
00:22:20Yes, easy one.
00:22:21It was an easy one.
00:22:22We put our top 20 sets of identical twins through a Q&A challenge.
00:22:27Who hides it for later?
00:22:29Where everyone had to answer the same ten questions.
00:22:32Go!
00:22:33Yee-haw!
00:22:36Our twins answered an impressive average of seven out of a possible ten the same.
00:22:43Let's get on with it, mate.
00:22:44Get on with it, yeah.
00:22:45And of all the questions there was one of particular interest.
00:22:50a question of sexual preference.
00:22:51Would you rather...
00:22:52A.
00:22:53Men.
00:22:54B.
00:22:55Women.
00:22:56A.
00:22:57Men or women?
00:22:58In what way?
00:22:59A.
00:23:00A.
00:23:01A.
00:23:02A.
00:23:03A.
00:23:04A.
00:23:05A.
00:23:06A.
00:23:07A.
00:23:08A.
00:23:09A.
00:23:10A.
00:23:11A.
00:23:12A.
00:23:13A.
00:23:14A.
00:23:15A.
00:23:16A.
00:23:17A.
00:23:18A.
00:23:19A.
00:23:20A.
00:23:21A.
00:23:22A.
00:23:23A.
00:23:24A.
00:23:25A.
00:23:26one of the biggest differences between us.
00:23:29Didn't see that coming.
00:23:31Yeah, that's right.
00:23:33I think we're going to be different on this.
00:23:36Oh, yeah.
00:23:38You could have gone women,
00:23:39because you've probably got more women friends than men.
00:23:40I've got more women friends, but romantically men,
00:23:43so yeah, it makes sense that we're different on that one.
00:23:46For farm boys Charles and Lachlan,
00:23:48this was the only question they answered differently.
00:23:51Being a twin and then being gay
00:23:53is really, really challenging.
00:23:57We grew up on a sheep and cattle farm in Western Victoria.
00:24:02We did everything together,
00:24:04growing up on a farm where you sort of had no choice.
00:24:07When we were young, we were told,
00:24:09you guys have the same DNA, so you must be the same.
00:24:13You know, everything is the same.
00:24:15So I found it very confusing,
00:24:17because I was like, well, I'm being told that if you're gay,
00:24:21you're born that way, but we're the same.
00:24:23So this is not right.
00:24:26I spent 15 years pretending to be someone I wasn't,
00:24:30because I thought that I should be the same.
00:24:34Coming out was one of the most difficult things
00:24:37I've ever experienced in my life.
00:24:39It's kind of like, who am I now?
00:24:42It took me a long time to come to terms with,
00:24:46but fortunately I'm really comfortable talking about it now.
00:24:48APPLAUSE
00:24:50So, Geoff, a question that I think some people at home
00:24:59would be thinking, and that is, is there a gay gene?
00:25:0420 to 30 years ago, there was a buzz about a gay gene,
00:25:07but it is a mix between genetics,
00:25:12between shared environment, and this third factor,
00:25:16that from the get-go in the womb,
00:25:18they have their parallel journey,
00:25:20and they can take different turns during that journey as well.
00:25:24And that is part of the reason for a number of these traits,
00:25:28including sexual preference.
00:25:30So we will never know all the factors that influence sexuality.
00:25:34But to clarify, sexual preference is not something you develop,
00:25:39it's something you're born with.
00:25:41Most of the evidence points to that finding,
00:25:44that it's something you're born with.
00:25:46However, it could also be something
00:25:48that's influenced during your life as well.
00:25:51It's a beautiful mystery of being human, I guess.
00:25:53And I think that's nice,
00:25:55because we don't need to know everything.
00:25:56We need to know that things are natural when they happen,
00:26:00and variation and variety is part of human life.
00:26:04And we need to respect the rainbow of different human sexualities.
00:26:09So what you're saying is we don't really know.
00:26:11I think a good scientist will tell you that they don't know things, definitely.
00:26:15This is true.
00:26:17OK, thanks, Geoff.
00:26:19So in our quest to find our top eight most identical twins,
00:26:23what challenge have you got for our top 20,
00:26:25Dr. Zahn and Dr. Chris?
00:26:28Now we're going to do a deep dive.
00:26:30Humans have more than 20,000 genes,
00:26:33and in identical twins they are exactly the same,
00:26:37which does not help explain why I am so much easier on the eye than Chris.
00:26:52We are, like, 100% identical.
00:26:54Our parents couldn't tell us apart.
00:26:57We have tried to pretend to be each other.
00:26:59It's like a clone.
00:27:00D-quane.
00:27:01It's a clone.
00:27:05In most cases, identical twins look the same,
00:27:08because the naked eye can only detect differences in facial features
00:27:11of about half a centimetre or more.
00:27:13So we called in the big guns, 3D scanning engineer Ben Tan.
00:27:18Hi.
00:27:19Hi.
00:27:19Hi, guys.
00:27:20I'm Ashley.
00:27:21Hi, how are you?
00:27:22Hi, I'm Ben.
00:27:22Ben's a leader in facial scanning technology,
00:27:25and he can measure differences in the twins' faces down to the millimetre.
00:27:29We're going to use a 3D scanner today to scan your face.
00:27:32Oh.
00:27:35It's reconstructing 3D instantly live on the computer.
00:27:39Wow, that's amazing.
00:27:40Yeah, I can't wait to see the outcome.
00:27:42Oh, wow.
00:27:43I've got a fat face.
00:27:44Yeah, I've got a skinny face.
00:27:45Blow your face out and make it fat.
00:27:48There you go.
00:27:49Same.
00:27:49Here to demonstrate how it works
00:27:54are celebrity twins Stack and Mel from Travel Guides.
00:27:58Stack.
00:27:58Mel.
00:27:59Mel.
00:28:00I always use every single one, Mel.
00:28:0250-50 chance, mate.
00:28:03First up, Ben scans one face,
00:28:05and this becomes the reference shot for comparison.
00:28:09Just hold the pose.
00:28:10And that big nose.
00:28:11Yep.
00:28:12Oh, bugger.
00:28:13Stack, same facial position.
00:28:15He then scans face number two.
00:28:17That's amazing.
00:28:18The chin.
00:28:19Yeah, you get that double chin in there.
00:28:23Oh, look at the bags under my eyes.
00:28:26Oh, Jesus.
00:28:28What if it's supposed to be a bag?
00:28:30What if it's a bag?
00:28:31Ben then uses facial recognition technology
00:28:34to analytically compare the two scans.
00:28:37We're going to overlay the two of them together.
00:28:41Oh.
00:28:44Stack, you're the pink peachy model.
00:28:47Yeah.
00:28:48When the two faces are combined,
00:28:50Ben can easily see the differences.
00:28:52The ears are wider on Stack.
00:28:54Ben then turns on a colour chart,
00:28:56and everything that you can see displayed in green
00:28:59is a match within a millimetre.
00:29:01The colours show the differences of Stack's face
00:29:05to your face, Mel.
00:29:07Yes.
00:29:07But whilst the girls are very close,
00:29:09there are some small differences.
00:29:11Stack's ear is four mil further out.
00:29:17Four millimetres.
00:29:18You can fly away with them.
00:29:24Hi.
00:29:24Don't fly away just yet,
00:29:26because after the break...
00:29:28It's Craig?
00:29:28Oh, Paul.
00:29:29I'm always getting it mixed up.
00:29:30We'll scan our top 20...
00:29:32Ooh.
00:29:33..and see how facially identical they are.
00:29:35Wow!
00:29:36This is fancy, man.
00:29:38The closer the match...
00:29:39So there's your two faces overlay.
00:29:41Oh, wow.
00:29:42..the closer they are to making our top eight.
00:29:45I'm happy with that.
00:29:46Oh, my God.
00:29:46Welcome back to Australia's Most Identical,
00:30:05where we're about to find out
00:30:06how close our top 20 are in facial appearance.
00:30:10Hi.
00:30:11I'm Ben, and Jack and Harry.
00:30:143-D scanning engineer Ben Tam
00:30:16is using cutting-edge technology
00:30:18that measures our twins' faces and compares them.
00:30:22I've never had my face scanned like that before.
00:30:24In order to make our top eight,
00:30:25they must be as close to identical as possible.
00:30:28G'day, mate.
00:30:29Hey, Bridget and Sophie.
00:30:32First up are wildlife warriors Bridget and Sophie.
00:30:36I'll get the gate for you, buddy.
00:30:37Bridget and Sophie are passionate about Australian wildlife.
00:30:41We pretty much live on a zoo.
00:30:42With a particular soft spot
00:30:44for the newest addition to their family,
00:30:47their pet wombat, Barty.
00:30:48Ow, ow, ow!
00:30:50Dude, you can't handle those ankle biters, hey?
00:30:53They showcase and educate people about their animals,
00:30:56from snakes to birds...
00:30:58Oh, look at that, mate.
00:31:00Look at this old man.
00:31:01..to Barty.
00:31:02This is our passion.
00:31:03This is what we're meant to do in life.
00:31:07Hello!
00:31:07Being a twin is extremely special
00:31:10because it means that no matter what,
00:31:14you have a mate.
00:31:15We didn't actually speak until five, so we...
00:31:18Because of this?
00:31:19Yeah.
00:31:19So we had our own language that we spoke to each other with.
00:31:23And we did start school at five,
00:31:24but we had to go straight into speech therapy.
00:31:26Dad was like, in you go.
00:31:28In the deep end.
00:31:29Get him out of here.
00:31:30Danny Gubb.
00:31:31There you are.
00:31:32What would life be like without each other, Bridget?
00:31:34What would life be like without you?
00:31:35We could find out.
00:31:36Oh, my...
00:31:38LAUGHTER
00:31:39Like many of our twins,
00:31:42Bridget and Sophie think they look nothing alike.
00:31:45We don't think we look that alike.
00:31:47Look, we see other twins and we're like...
00:31:48You know.
00:31:50But they probably don't think they look alike.
00:31:52On the screen now,
00:31:53we've got the two scans ready to align.
00:31:57Wow!
00:31:57This is fancy, man!
00:32:00You can see here, in the green,
00:32:01that's pretty much where you're identical.
00:32:03Yeah.
00:32:03That's all within a millimetre.
00:32:06Look at all that green.
00:32:07They are nearly a perfect clone.
00:32:10Bridget and Sophie had an unbelievable 81% of their face
00:32:14that was within one millimetre of each other.
00:32:17So, if you took two different people, or even siblings,
00:32:20it would hardly show any green?
00:32:22Yeah, hardly any green.
00:32:24Like many of our twins,
00:32:25Bridget and Sophie are surprised
00:32:27about how tiny the differences are.
00:32:30Bridget's lip, upper lip and lower lip,
00:32:32are at a slightly further forward.
00:32:36Not much.
00:32:37It's almost two millimetres.
00:32:38Oh, wow!
00:32:39Wow!
00:32:39Wow!
00:32:44So, there's your two faces overlaid.
00:32:46Oh, wow.
00:32:47After a lifetime of being told they look the same,
00:32:50musical twins Janice and Sonia welcome the news
00:32:53that there are some differences.
00:32:55I can't believe there's actually something to prove
00:32:58that we look different.
00:33:00We see it in colours.
00:33:01Our differences are in colours right now.
00:33:05We are seeing differences from the eyes down to the chin.
00:33:09Right.
00:33:09However, 64% of their faces
00:33:12are still within a millimetre of each other.
00:33:17Craig and Paul also scored a very high 66% match
00:33:22within a millimetre.
00:33:23Does this tell us who's better looking?
00:33:24It doesn't have that automatically, unfortunately.
00:33:27Subjective.
00:33:28And one difference reminded Paul of an old sports injury.
00:33:32Craig's nose is in front.
00:33:34Yeah.
00:33:35And slightly to the left compared to Paul.
00:33:37I did break my nose when I was younger.
00:33:40Yeah?
00:33:40I just thought of it.
00:33:41Yeah, sure, I remember that.
00:33:41Well, there you go.
00:33:42Good technology.
00:33:4449% of Daisy and Aurora's faces were within a millimetre.
00:33:48These girls live in different cities
00:33:50and have different lifestyle choices.
00:33:52The blue areas, so Daisy,
00:33:54the cheeks are less plump.
00:33:56Yep.
00:33:57I think I know why.
00:33:59Why?
00:33:59I eat more food than you.
00:34:05Students Jamie and Stephanie
00:34:06have a bond that's very close.
00:34:09We do everything together.
00:34:10We do meals together.
00:34:11Like, our schedule's the same.
00:34:13We work together, go to uni together.
00:34:16Sometimes we get confused
00:34:17and we mistakenly think that we're one person.
00:34:20One sole, two people.
00:34:22They did score an impressive 65% in green,
00:34:25but the difference in noses was a shock.
00:34:29Jamie's nose is two millimetres inside or shorter
00:34:34than where Stephanie's nose is.
00:34:37Yeah, you can't see it.
00:34:37You can't pick it because it's such a small difference.
00:34:39Our last twins, TikTokers and part-time retail assistants,
00:34:44Jason and Jaden,
00:34:45may have scored 49% within a millimetre,
00:34:48but they've been arguing over facial features since birth.
00:34:52Thanks.
00:34:53And are about to settle it once and for all.
00:34:55What differences have you noticed?
00:34:57All our friends say that I have a bigger, fatter head
00:35:00and that he has a bigger nose, which I'm happy about.
00:35:02You've got bigger ears than me, so we're going to see now.
00:35:04We can fully see that you have a bigger nose
00:35:06and people say his nose is crooked as well, so it's good.
00:35:09What are we going to film?
00:35:10I have an idea.
00:35:11I've seen these videos on socials.
00:35:13These twins spend their time making comedic content on TikTok
00:35:17and have gained over 1.5 million followers.
00:35:20You look like Mbappe.
00:35:23You look like Renaudo.
00:35:26We just make pretty funny and stupid videos.
00:35:31We just film these videos to brighten up people's days.
00:35:38Oh, sweet.
00:35:39I upload it when you're ready.
00:35:41We are really competitive in everything we do.
00:35:43Keep going.
00:35:44Are you tired?
00:35:45You don't want.
00:35:45I can do this all day.
00:35:46It's healthy competition at the end of the day
00:35:48because I have someone who's the exact same as me.
00:35:50Caesars, paper, rock, Caesars, paper, rock, Caesars, paper, rock.
00:35:57We have Jason on the left and Jaden on the right there.
00:36:01So who will have the biggest nose?
00:36:03We can fully see that you have a bigger nose
00:36:05and people say his nose is crooked as well.
00:36:07What are you talking about?
00:36:08You will see now how big your nose is compared to mine.
00:36:16Jason's nose is actually sitting inside,
00:36:18so, yes, Jaden...
00:36:19Your nose is sitting further forward
00:36:22and it's sitting further forward by, oh, about four millimetres.
00:36:25That's massive.
00:36:26Four millimetres is what people can notice.
00:36:29We've seen differences of about two millimetres
00:36:31and people can't notice that,
00:36:32but four millimetres is starting to be more obvious.
00:36:35Yeah.
00:36:36LAUGHTER
00:36:37Everyone's always told you how to bigger nose
00:36:40and this proves that four millimetres is a huge difference,
00:36:43so I'm happy with that.
00:36:44Oh, my God.
00:36:46So Jason won bragging rights for his smaller, elegant nose.
00:36:49I know how he feels.
00:36:52All right, we now know who's most identical in facial appearance
00:36:55and we're one step closer to finding our top eight.
00:36:58All of the twins had some differences in their faces,
00:37:01but even the biggest variations are still tiny
00:37:03compared to the differences between regular siblings.
00:37:08APPLAUSE
00:37:08Guys, I'm just amazed by this technology
00:37:14and I'm really pleased I wasn't there
00:37:15because I've got such a big head,
00:37:17I think I'd be embarrassed if I got a scan.
00:37:19LAUGHTER
00:37:19Bridget and Sophie were one of the closest matches overall,
00:37:22only a few millimetres apart.
00:37:24What really explains the subtle facial differences in these girls?
00:37:28When they were both in the womb,
00:37:29if one was slightly squashed to one side,
00:37:33while their face was developing,
00:37:35that might have influenced the trajectory
00:37:37of overridden some of the basic genetics
00:37:39that controls our face shape.
00:37:41The main points of the face, the nose, the eyes, above the mouth,
00:37:45they're strongly genetically influenced.
00:37:48But the rest of the face develops
00:37:50very slowly from different components.
00:37:53For example, the ears come up from below
00:37:55in the second trimester of pregnancy
00:37:57and make their way up to the head.
00:37:59The complexity of human development
00:38:01can create differences,
00:38:03even within pairs of identical twins.
00:38:06And as twins grow older,
00:38:07they can be affected by, say, habits such as smoking,
00:38:10which might make their skin a bit more saggy and wrinkly.
00:38:14And so there's a number of different ways,
00:38:15all throughout a lifespan,
00:38:17where twins' faces can be shaped.
00:38:20It depends on what you eat.
00:38:21There's two.
00:38:22One might be really healthy,
00:38:22one might be a bit fat in the face.
00:38:24Exactly, yeah.
00:38:25It's the genetics really sets up the structure
00:38:28of the bones in the face.
00:38:30But again, what we experience and what we eat
00:38:33could fill out the face.
00:38:35All right, well, obviously,
00:38:36plenty more to unpack here after the break.
00:38:39But don't go anywhere.
00:38:40Next, a picture tells a thousand words.
00:38:46Stand still, wait for a flush.
00:38:48We give our twins the same props
00:38:50and ask them to strike a pose.
00:38:53One, two, three.
00:38:55How similar will the results be?
00:38:57Oh, my God!
00:39:00As we get closer to finding our top eight.
00:39:03The most annoying question people ask us is...
00:39:20Do you switch?
00:39:22Do you switch?
00:39:23Do you switch places?
00:39:25Have you ever kissed the same boy?
00:39:26Oh, if I hurt him, does he feel it as well?
00:39:29And it's like, come on.
00:39:30And then they're tested out.
00:39:31Come on.
00:39:31It's not fun.
00:39:32When they ask who's better at something,
00:39:35who's better at sport, who's better at football,
00:39:37how do I tell you apart is probably one
00:39:39that annoys me the most.
00:39:40Do you know who's who?
00:39:42Like, do you have identity problems?
00:39:44Where you're like, do I really know that I'm Jamie?
00:39:46Who's smarter?
00:39:48Yeah.
00:39:49Because that one's an obvious one.
00:39:56Welcome back to Australia's Most Identical.
00:39:59Tonight, we're searching for Australia's top eight
00:40:02most identical sets of twins
00:40:04on our way to finding who was Australia's most identical.
00:40:08What challenge have you got next for us,
00:40:09Dr. Zahn and Dr. Chris?
00:40:12As far as personality and decision-making are concerned,
00:40:15research has shown that the way we behave
00:40:17is driven by a roughly 50-50 split
00:40:20of our genes and our environment.
00:40:22So we tested the similarity
00:40:24of our twins' decision-making processes
00:40:26with a challenge we called Dracopose!
00:40:34Ooh!
00:40:35Identical twins exhibit greater similarity
00:40:38with decision-making than other siblings.
00:40:41Very interesting.
00:40:42Which is likely to be genetic.
00:40:45They're so random.
00:40:45Look at that.
00:40:46So, with this in mind,
00:40:47we set up two separate but identical photo booths,
00:40:51each with props, costumes, and a timer.
00:40:53What's your room like?
00:40:55What?
00:40:56What's your room like?
00:40:58We asked the twins to take a series of snaps
00:41:01with heaps of options.
00:41:02They could choose as many items as they liked.
00:41:05We then compared the photos,
00:41:07and some of the results are spooky.
00:41:11Jinx.
00:41:11Jinx again.
00:41:14Oh, it's a photo booth!
00:41:16We're going to do photos!
00:41:18Oh, my gosh!
00:41:20Yes!
00:41:21First up are single mums and singing sisters,
00:41:24Janice and Sonia.
00:41:25Like a coffee
00:41:27We started dabbling in music back in 2008,
00:41:36you know, casually recording in our pyjamas in our bedroom.
00:41:41We like that!
00:41:43That's a good one!
00:41:44That was all of you guys.
00:41:45Uploaded on YouTube.
00:41:48And things just kind of blew up for us.
00:41:54Started travelling the world,
00:41:55and we were able to basically live our dream
00:41:58for a few years before we had our kids.
00:42:04As single mums,
00:42:06we live with our dad.
00:42:08It's been actually quite fun
00:42:09because our dad can't even tell us apart.
00:42:11Kids can't tell us apart.
00:42:12Who would like banana and avocado smoothie?
00:42:16Through all our life stages,
00:42:18we have, you know, gotten married
00:42:20and had kids at very similar times.
00:42:22Like, our first boys are the same age.
00:42:24They're both eight.
00:42:24And then our younger ones are both six.
00:42:27It is all a bit strange
00:42:28because you can't plan that sort of thing.
00:42:30But it's definitely been interesting.
00:42:35Do as you would do
00:42:36if you would take a photo by yourself.
00:42:38Under pressure from the clock,
00:42:40will their photos bear any similarities
00:42:42or be miles apart?
00:42:44Oh, my goodness.
00:42:46In order to progress to the top eight,
00:42:48their photos must be
00:42:50a close match in the way they pose
00:42:51and which props they choose.
00:42:54Do you know what you're doing?
00:42:55First up, we ask them
00:42:57to pose with the penguin.
00:42:59Start button. Ready?
00:43:00One, two, three.
00:43:02Oh, oh, oh!
00:43:12Great start.
00:43:13Both leaning into the penguin,
00:43:15but Janice on the left
00:43:16looking a bit more standoffish.
00:43:21I feel like that's what I would do
00:43:22if I saw a penguin.
00:43:24Next, we look at their aesthetic choices
00:43:25as they can choose any items
00:43:27to pose with by the palm tree.
00:43:29Are you still going?
00:43:30Ooh, colours.
00:43:31What do you mean, colours?
00:43:32Ooh.
00:43:33OK, there's something that I like.
00:43:37Oh, ooh, ooh!
00:43:40Ooh!
00:43:46Have a look at this.
00:43:48They've both chosen the same hat
00:43:49and a feather boa.
00:43:51OK.
00:43:53OK.
00:43:54Finally, we asked them
00:43:55to pose with the Rubik's Cube.
00:43:58How do I pose with this?
00:43:59Just do whatever comes naturally.
00:44:01Don't stress.
00:44:04This is exactly how I would do
00:44:05if I was by myself.
00:44:10Janice and Sonia
00:44:11have so much in common,
00:44:13and their instincts
00:44:13when it comes to decision-making
00:44:15demonstrates this in spades,
00:44:17both picking up the guitar.
00:44:20OK.
00:44:21Now, we're obviously blown away,
00:44:23but how did they react
00:44:25to seeing their results?
00:44:26I reckon they're going to be different.
00:44:27I think they're going to be different.
00:44:29OK, ready?
00:44:29One, two, three.
00:44:32Oh!
00:44:33They're kind of similar.
00:44:35This is definitely me
00:44:37being really overly affectionate.
00:44:38And this is you
00:44:39showing affection from
00:44:40a safe distance.
00:44:43Yep.
00:44:43OK, next one.
00:44:44We're going to be
00:44:45looking at the same person.
00:44:47Oh!
00:44:48Oh, my God!
00:44:50What?
00:44:51Oh, my gosh.
00:44:53We look at the same person.
00:44:55Our poses are different,
00:44:57but we chose the same prop.
00:45:01We are more identical
00:45:02than I thought.
00:45:04I was actually mind-blown.
00:45:06Interesting.
00:45:07That's cool.
00:45:08That surprises us, even.
00:45:10It's a surprise to Janice and Sonia,
00:45:13but it makes scientific sense.
00:45:15Both are genetically identical
00:45:16and they've followed
00:45:17a similar path in life.
00:45:18Same hobbies,
00:45:19having kids at the same time,
00:45:21singing together,
00:45:22and now living once again
00:45:23in the same house.
00:45:25But clearly not all identical twins
00:45:27make the same choices.
00:45:34Coming up...
00:45:35Ah...
00:45:36..a challenge that everyone will love.
00:45:38It's a challenge!
00:45:40One.
00:45:41And which of our top 20...
00:45:42Ooh!
00:45:43Yeah, that's good.
00:45:43..will make the top eight?
00:45:45I'm looking forward to this.
00:45:46I'm hungry.
00:45:47Oh, me too!
00:45:47Ha, ha, ha!
00:45:57APPLAUSE
00:45:58Welcome back.
00:46:01Oh, it's a photo booth.
00:46:03We're going to do photos.
00:46:05Before the break,
00:46:05we set up two photo booths
00:46:07with the same props.
00:46:09What is this?
00:46:10What is this?
00:46:11And asked our top 20 sets
00:46:13of identical twins
00:46:13to strike a pose.
00:46:17We wanted to look at
00:46:18their similarities
00:46:19in decision making
00:46:20and use it as another tool
00:46:21to help us find our top eight.
00:46:23Wow!
00:46:24Remember,
00:46:25we're looking for the twins
00:46:26whose photos are
00:46:27the most evenly matched,
00:46:29taking into consideration
00:46:30how they posed
00:46:31and what props they chose.
00:46:35OK.
00:46:37Interesting.
00:46:38Up next are 52-year-olds
00:46:40Craig and Paul
00:46:40from Victoria.
00:46:42What's astounding
00:46:43about these gents
00:46:44is that they come from
00:46:45a line of three sets
00:46:46of identical twins.
00:46:48Their grandmother
00:46:48was an identical twin
00:46:49and Paul
00:46:50has identical twin boys.
00:46:52This is extremely unusual.
00:46:56While fraternal twins
00:46:57can be hereditary
00:46:58in some families,
00:46:59identical twins
00:47:00generally are not.
00:47:02Oh.
00:47:03It's identical.
00:47:05Just like us.
00:47:06Just like us.
00:47:07We act the same,
00:47:09look the same,
00:47:10I think,
00:47:11so we are very identical.
00:47:13And sometimes
00:47:14being physically identical
00:47:15has its advantages.
00:47:17I can unlock
00:47:18the WhatsApp iPhone.
00:47:19He can unlock my phone
00:47:20just by using our face
00:47:21which is weird.
00:47:23You've got to be careful
00:47:24what you put on it though.
00:47:25You try and unlock mine.
00:47:26I'll unlock yours.
00:47:27You unlock mine.
00:47:29There you go.
00:47:30There you go.
00:47:30Yeah.
00:47:31Unlocked.
00:47:31Unlocked.
00:47:33You ready?
00:47:33Yeah, I'm ready.
00:47:34You ready?
00:47:34One, two, three.
00:47:37Go.
00:47:38We are very similar
00:47:39in our decision making.
00:47:41I'm going to be quick.
00:47:42Let's get a photo.
00:47:43We do feel like we think
00:47:44we know what each other's thinking.
00:47:46Yeah, I agree.
00:47:47Do a pose.
00:47:48Do a pose.
00:47:50Check it out.
00:47:52Right knee.
00:47:53Are they proposing?
00:47:55Even look at their
00:47:56left and right hands.
00:47:57Extremely similar
00:47:58in their choices.
00:47:59What do you think
00:48:00I'm going to wear?
00:48:01Hopefully what I'm wearing.
00:48:02We certainly pick up
00:48:03on vibes.
00:48:05All right.
00:48:10You do have that
00:48:11extra, I don't know.
00:48:13Extra sense maybe.
00:48:14Yeah.
00:48:14You done?
00:48:15I'm done.
00:48:15You ready?
00:48:16Let's go.
00:48:16Let's get a photo.
00:48:17How do you think we went?
00:48:20I don't know.
00:48:21I'll show you.
00:48:22Can I have a look?
00:48:22Have a look.
00:48:24Oh, you've got to be kidding me.
00:48:27Wow.
00:48:28That is so similar.
00:48:29I can't believe.
00:48:30Hand on the penguin.
00:48:32Hand on our legs.
00:48:33Wow.
00:48:34There you go.
00:48:34The next one.
00:48:36Wow.
00:48:37Even there.
00:48:38The same bow of feather
00:48:40or the same hat.
00:48:41Just the glasses
00:48:42but still.
00:48:43Yes, this validates
00:48:44that twin thing,
00:48:45I think.
00:48:46Just taking it back
00:48:48to how similar we were
00:48:49in our choices.
00:48:51Yeah, some telepathy there.
00:48:52Telepathy.
00:48:54Telepathy may not be
00:48:55the scientific name for it
00:48:56but their decisions
00:48:57under pressure
00:48:58were really close.
00:49:00Now, Craig and Paul
00:49:00weren't the only ones
00:49:01with similar choices.
00:49:02Stand still,
00:49:05wait for a flash.
00:49:05Okay, oh my God.
00:49:06I hope we pick
00:49:06the same one.
00:49:08Daisy and Aurora
00:49:09were viking
00:49:10their new look
00:49:10picking exactly
00:49:13the same outfit.
00:49:16I don't know.
00:49:17God.
00:49:19I mean,
00:49:19that's stupid
00:49:20but it's the same,
00:49:21you know.
00:49:24Oh!
00:49:25Justine and Jodie
00:49:26were in tune
00:49:27with their choices.
00:49:30Oh my God,
00:49:31we're crossing out.
00:49:32We're crossing the league!
00:49:33We're crossing the league!
00:49:33We're crossing the league!
00:49:35But not all twins
00:49:37were as aligned.
00:49:38Okay, start dressing up.
00:49:39Yep, okay.
00:49:40Marcel and Jim,
00:49:41who scored a perfect
00:49:4210 out of 10
00:49:43in Q&A,
00:49:44showed their instincts
00:49:45and their decision-making
00:49:46to slightly differ.
00:49:48No!
00:49:49I did the one!
00:49:50Oh my God!
00:49:51You did the one!
00:49:52Yeah, why would you
00:49:53grab that one?
00:49:53Come on!
00:49:55Looking good.
00:49:57Feather boa on point, boys.
00:49:59LAUGHTER
00:50:00OK.
00:50:05Our final twins
00:50:06are 34-year-olds,
00:50:07Ashley and Tegan.
00:50:09These identical twins
00:50:10are fascinating.
00:50:12Ashley and Tegan
00:50:13are mirror twins,
00:50:14which means that
00:50:15characteristics like
00:50:16hair passing
00:50:16or dominant handedness
00:50:18can be mirrored
00:50:19on opposite sides.
00:50:21I'm left-handed,
00:50:23Ashley's right-handed.
00:50:24And when we were little,
00:50:24we would get teeth
00:50:25on the same day
00:50:26but opposite sides
00:50:26of the mouth.
00:50:29And our crowns
00:50:29go opposite ways.
00:50:30We lost teeth
00:50:31on opposite sides.
00:50:32Until I worked out
00:50:33that teeth are worth money.
00:50:34Yeah.
00:50:34And then I would
00:50:35wobble them.
00:50:38Now, a quarter
00:50:39of identical twins
00:50:40are mirrored
00:50:40and this could be due
00:50:42to the embryos
00:50:43splitting later
00:50:44than with other
00:50:45identical twins,
00:50:45more than a week
00:50:46after conception.
00:50:48Let's see
00:50:48how they strike
00:50:49their pose.
00:50:50Will it be mirrored?
00:50:52Ah!
00:50:53I'm going to tell you.
00:50:54Are you ready, Tegan?
00:50:55Ah!
00:50:59Look.
00:51:01Look, we're opposites.
00:51:02Yes.
00:51:02That's so great.
00:51:03Yes.
00:51:04Mirror twins again.
00:51:05I've got my boa.
00:51:06One's leaning
00:51:07to the left,
00:51:08one's leaning
00:51:09to the right,
00:51:09one horse is pointing up,
00:51:11one's pointing down,
00:51:12an almost perfect reflection.
00:51:15Unbelievable.
00:51:16Let's go to the next challenge.
00:51:17Yeah, okay, cool.
00:51:18But it doesn't matter
00:51:19whether they're mirror twins
00:51:20or regular old
00:51:22identical twins
00:51:23like us.
00:51:24many end up
00:51:25making surprisingly
00:51:26similar decisions.
00:51:30Coming up...
00:51:31Chocolate!
00:51:33A very tasty challenge.
00:51:35Ah!
00:51:37I'm looking forward to this.
00:51:38I'm hungry.
00:51:39I'm hungry too.
00:51:40And the results are in.
00:51:42Why do we all the chocolate?
00:51:43Our top eight
00:51:45most identical twins
00:51:46will be revealed.
00:51:57Woo!
00:51:57Woo!

00:52:02Woo!
00:52:03Woo!
00:52:03Woo!
00:52:03Welcome back to Australia's
00:52:05Most Identical.
00:52:06We're just one challenge away from narrowing down our top 20 sets of twins to the top eight
00:52:12most identical.
00:52:13What have you got for us next, doctors?
00:52:16This next test is very close to my heart.
00:52:19It's probably closer to your stomach, Chris.
00:52:21We measured the similarity of the twins' taste preferences.
00:52:24Now, genetics play a key role in developing our senses and our response to flavors in food,
00:52:30but our sensitivity to flavors is also influenced by exposure to certain types of food and diet choices as we grow up.
00:52:38So for this challenge, we conducted a blind tasting.
00:52:41Our twins were asked to rank four different chocolates from their most to their least favorite.
00:52:47And we're looking for those whose taste preferences are the most identical.
00:52:55Chocolate!
00:52:57Ooh!
00:52:59Chocolate!
00:52:59I'm looking forward to this!
00:53:01I'm hungry!
00:53:02Oh, me too!
00:53:04For this challenge, we've intentionally selected somewhat polarizing flavors including chili, salt,
00:53:10dark and, of course, the classic Easter treat, milk chocolate.
00:53:15Oh!
00:53:16Kicking off the challenge are our independent sisters, Daisy and Aurora.
00:53:20Oh!
00:53:23Is this dairy?
00:53:24Because we're allergic.
00:53:29Daisy and Aurora lead very different lives in the pursuit of having their own identity.
00:53:34Growing up as twins, I think we were always put into that category like, oh, here come the twins.
00:53:45If one of us did something wrong, everyone just assumed that the other one did as well.
00:53:49Or if one of us was good at something, everyone would assume that we're both good at that.
00:53:53Yeah.
00:53:53We were always put in the same category.
00:53:57I think we definitely rebelled against that.
00:54:00We've both lived in different countries, so we had an opportunity to be individuals and not be
00:54:07the twins anymore.
00:54:11Yep, that's everything.
00:54:12Did you have snacks though?
00:54:13Yeah, I've got snacks.
00:54:14Don't worry, they're in my bar bag.
00:54:16Where are we going?
00:54:18I'll get the map running when we get out of the city.
00:54:20Living in different cities, we actually only see each other maybe three times a year.
00:54:25Cheers!
00:54:26Fun trips like this one.
00:54:27Yeah.
00:54:28That's the only time that we get together.
00:54:30Okay, let's see what this is like.
00:54:34It'll be interesting to see if living apart has impacted their taste preferences.
00:54:39Remember, this is a blind tasting.
00:54:41Their mission?
00:54:42To try the chocolate and sort them from most to least favorite.
00:54:46And they can't see the label.
00:54:49All right, let's go for the first one.
00:54:51Okay.
00:54:51Let's do it.
00:54:52Just a little nibble.
00:54:52A little nibble.
00:54:53All right.
00:54:56Mmm.
00:54:57Oh.
00:54:58For Daisy and Aurora, the power of chocolate seems to have left them speechless.
00:55:02Mmm.
00:55:06Let's go for the next one.
00:55:07Okay.
00:55:11Mmm.
00:55:12Mmm.
00:55:13Ooh.
00:55:15I think they're enjoying it.
00:55:19Um.
00:55:19Mmm.
00:55:20Mmm.
00:55:21Mmm.
00:55:22Mm-hmm.
00:55:22Mmm.
00:55:23Mmm.
00:55:24Mmm.
00:55:24Mmm.
00:55:25Mmm.
00:55:25Mmm.
00:55:26Mmm.
00:55:26Mmm.
00:55:27Last one.
00:55:28Last one.
00:55:28All right.
00:55:28All right.
00:55:28All right.
00:55:29Mmm.
00:55:30Mmm.
00:55:32I know what.
00:55:33I know.
00:55:33I know as well.
00:55:34I'm ready.
00:55:36Time to shuffle the deck.
00:55:37Will they be identical in taste preferences?
00:55:41Okay.
00:55:41I think that's the order.
00:55:43Okay.
00:55:43So which one was your top fave?
00:55:45The salty chop.
00:55:46Yes.
00:55:46Mine was as well.
00:55:47Definitely.
00:55:47It was so good.
00:55:48Yeah.
00:55:49Salty.
00:55:49I mean, we probably...
00:55:50It is salty.
00:55:50Oh.
00:55:51Yeah.
00:55:51Oh.
00:55:52Okay.
00:55:52I didn't realize it was.
00:55:53Okay.
00:55:53Yes.
00:55:54Number two.
00:55:54What was your number two?
00:55:55Number two.
00:55:56Chili.
00:55:56Chili.
00:55:58More chili is all I have to say.
00:56:00Okay.
00:56:01All right.
00:56:01And the next one.
00:56:02Milk.
00:56:02Milk.
00:56:02Yeah.
00:56:03Easter vibes for sure.
00:56:04And then dark.
00:56:06I'm curious to know how dark.
00:56:07Yeah.
00:56:08Super dark.
00:56:09Oh my gosh.
00:56:09Four out of four.
00:56:10Four out of four.
00:56:11100% same.
00:56:12Yes.
00:56:14Our independent sisters have much more in common than they realize.
00:56:18Do we get to keep this?
00:56:19Yeah.
00:56:19I'm going to take this one.
00:56:21Let's start with this one.
00:56:22Yeah.
00:56:24It tastes dark.
00:56:25But yeah, it doesn't taste quite good.
00:56:28Child authors Zara and Zoe clearly didn't like the dark chocolate.
00:56:33I'm Zara.
00:56:35And I'm Zoe.
00:56:36We're authors.
00:56:37This story is about a bee named Dini.
00:56:41And we've been creating stories since we could write.
00:56:44It's about a girl.
00:56:46She finds a crystal ball.
00:56:48Shh.
00:56:49Shh.
00:56:50Our hobbies and interests are exactly the same.
00:56:55We don't like the same food because I like pasta and she likes noodles.
00:57:02I'm not going to eat it all.
00:57:05Well, we do know that both of them didn't like the dark chocolate.
00:57:09Too dark chocolate.
00:57:11And they weren't the only ones.
00:57:14Definitely dark chocolate.
00:57:18It's lingering.
00:57:19With many placing it as the least favorite.
00:57:22I'm going to put the lace down here.
00:57:23Lace down here.
00:57:24Now, this is due to the taste of bitterness being influenced by our genetics.
00:57:29While most put it down the back of the bus.
00:57:31This one was definitely dark chocolate.
00:57:33We both hate dark.
00:57:34So, yeah.
00:57:34Yeah, definitely.
00:57:37Oh, wow.
00:57:38Okay.
00:57:39Dark chocolate certainly struck a chord with ex-flight attendants turned fitness instructors
00:57:44Tim and Nick.
00:57:47Yeah, that's good.
00:57:48Mm-hmm.
00:57:48But that's got a lot of cocoa in it.
00:57:51Yeah.
00:57:51Heaps sharper.
00:57:52Definitely.
00:57:52Yeah.
00:57:53Count of three.
00:57:53We'll show each other.
00:57:54Yeah.
00:57:54What our most favorite chocolate is.
00:57:55Yeah.
00:57:55All right.
00:57:56Ready?
00:57:56One, two, three.
00:57:58Yeah.
00:57:59Knew it.
00:57:59We knew it.
00:58:00Technically a bit healthier for her.
00:58:02Yeah.
00:58:02Yeah.
00:58:02Definitely.
00:58:03Look at me.
00:58:04Cleaning up as we go.
00:58:05Yeah, clean as we go.
00:58:06Good job.
00:58:07Nice.
00:58:08The extra pepper really makes that.
00:58:10Tim and Nick live together.
00:58:11This is the only shirt you need.
00:58:12Yeah.
00:58:13Work at the gym together.
00:58:14Don't forget to breathe.
00:58:14That's it.
00:58:15Back's nice for that.
00:58:15That's it.
00:58:16And back when they were flight attendants.
00:58:18It just shows how much fun we used to have.
00:58:21They even had their passengers fooled.
00:58:23Tim would walk into the curtain to the galley and I'd walk out with say a plate of drinks,
00:58:27for example, and the passengers were just like, you are working so hard.
00:58:31Yes.
00:58:32Because they thought there was one of us for 40 passengers.
00:58:34Yes.
00:58:35Also, there was another flight where they actually put on the comment cards, Nick worked so hard,
00:58:39it was like there was two of them.
00:58:41Yeah.
00:58:41Yeah.
00:58:41So, yeah.
00:58:43I wish I'd kept that comment card, actually.
00:58:45I remember that.
00:58:45Yeah.
00:58:47You know, Zand, it is amazing how many identical twins share the same occupation.
00:58:52I mean, just in our sample here, we've got twin pilots, twin teachers, twin doctors,
00:58:57twin military officers, twin builders, twin landscapers, twin childcare workers, twin doctors.
00:59:03And twin doctors.
00:59:04Literally what I was saying.
00:59:06That's us.
00:59:07Anyway, we digress.
00:59:09Back to the challenge.
00:59:10You look like a hamster then.
00:59:14Whilst it was a mixed bag of treats and preferences.
00:59:17Who eats fire and goes, this is nice?
00:59:20Go.
00:59:21Milk.
00:59:21Oh, I knew we'd put milk.
00:59:24Approximately 80% of our top 20 chose the same chocolate as their most preferred.
00:59:30Four from four.
00:59:31Four from four.
00:59:31Smashed it.
00:59:32And 56% had a perfect four out of four match.
00:59:36We're more twinny than you thought.
00:59:38Yeah.
00:59:39Why do we eat all the chocolate?
00:59:45Oh, I tell you what, I love that chilli chocolate.
00:59:49I shouldn't, but I do.
00:59:50And it's really interesting.
00:59:52Jamie and Stephanie said they were really sensitive to bitterness.
00:59:55Is that common?
00:59:56A quarter of people, they're called supertasters.
01:00:00So one change in the genetic code gives people this totally different experience.
01:00:05So anything slightly bitter to the rest of us is very, very bitter to them and they don't like it.
01:00:10An example is dark chocolate.
01:00:11But Tim and Nick, they actually put milk chocolate last because they thought it was the least healthy
01:00:15option.
01:00:16What do you guys make of that?
01:00:17Well, it shows you their preferences and their values, doesn't it?
01:00:21They have a strong commitment to health and wellbeing.
01:00:25They live it in their day-to-day life.
01:00:27And so they chose in that vein.
01:00:29It influenced their decision.
01:00:29Yeah.
01:00:31I could have a block of dairy milk chocolate for brekkie every morning.
01:00:33Oh, me too.
01:00:38Now the moment we've been waiting for.
01:00:40You've all been put under the microscope.
01:00:43Wait.
01:00:44How'd a large brekkie?
01:00:45Measured.
01:00:46158.
01:00:47Tested.
01:00:47You can see the differences within the print.
01:00:49Photographed.
01:00:50Oh, God!
01:00:52Scanned.
01:00:53That's amazing.
01:00:54Well fed.
01:00:55Mmm.
01:00:56I don't think it keeps me quiet.
01:01:00And after the break, it's time to reveal our top eight,
01:01:04as we search for Australia's most identity.
01:01:29Now, based on the challenge results and our experts analysis,
01:01:42we can now reveal which eight sets of twins are going to move to the final rounds
01:01:47of Australia's most identical.
01:01:54First up.
01:01:59Former flight attendants Tim and Nick.
01:02:01Oh!
01:02:01Oh!
01:02:03I want you.
01:02:04Yay!
01:02:08Hi, guys.
01:02:09How are you?
01:02:10Hello.
01:02:10Hi, guys.
01:02:13Independent sisters, Daisy and Aurora.
01:02:23Teachers, Yvette and Linda.
01:02:32It's gorgeous!
01:02:33Tick-Tock twins, Jason and Jayden.
01:02:43Wildlife warriors, Bridget and Sophie.
01:02:49Tradie brothers, Marcel and Jim.
01:02:56Singing sisters, Janice and Sonya.
01:02:59And inseparable twins, Jamie and Stephanie.
01:03:14Let's hear it for our top eight.
01:03:15Bridget and Sophie, if you could compete in any challenge against the remaining twins,
01:03:28what would that be?
01:03:28Catching a snake.
01:03:30Oh, that's right.
01:03:34Comment.
01:03:35I could do that.
01:03:37With my eyes closed.
01:03:39Yeah, whatever.
01:03:40Tough talking.
01:03:41Oh, okay.
01:03:42Now, Nick and Tim looking around at the top eight,
01:03:45who do you think your toughest competition's going to be to be Australia's most identical?
01:03:50I think after that comment, these guys might be a good...
01:03:52Yeah, good, good, yeah.
01:03:53I want to learn how to catch a snake, just so I want to do that competition.
01:03:55But I think we all have an equal chance of getting to the top prize,
01:03:59so I think we all have, yeah, what we take to be Australia's most identical for sure.
01:04:05Okay, I'm really looking forward to the absolutely awesome challenges
01:04:11this slot will take on next time.
01:04:13And we'll discover who will be named Australia's most identical.
01:04:18Good night.
01:04:19Next time...
01:04:39We turn it up a notch.
01:04:40Surely you knew you were identical.
01:04:42As the challenges get even tougher.
01:04:45We'll find out how close our twins are in singing ability, fashion sense...
01:04:56...and much more.
01:04:58Bring it on. Bring it on.
01:05:00You won't believe the result.
01:05:05As we build to the ultimate test...
01:05:08We have tried to pretend to be each other.
01:05:10...trading places.
01:05:11And at the end of it all, we will crown Australia's most identical.
