Wales is set to get a £445million cash injection in the rail network over the next ten years, but many believe it’s not enough. It’s set to go towards a number of new stations as well as electrification and improvements to the line, but what changes do passengers in Cardiff want to see?
00:00Wales is set to get £445 million worth of money over the next 10 years for rail funding.
00:08It's going to go towards things like new stations, electrification around Wales,
00:11but more needs to be done according to people I've spoken to.
00:14So we're finding out what they would like to see happen to the railway network around South Wales.
00:19It's always disruptions, it seems to be.
00:22I used to go to Swansea a lot a couple of years back.
00:26It's a lot of disruptions and not always get into time to London.
00:31So hopefully that will change that.
00:33I think that there should definitely be some toilets maybe where I live, like on the stations.
00:40Because I've got to go, I'm going to literally just go to the toilet if I'm waiting for the train or something.
00:43Because there's nothing there, there's no cafes or whatsoever at the train station.
00:46I just reckon they should maybe put in some cafes and maybe some toilets as well.
00:51I'd like to see better service to West Wales.
00:54Because it's just taken me three hours, 25 minutes to come from Pembroke.
01:00So a faster train would be great.
01:04Around Cardiff, if I'm going around Cardiff, I must admit they're quite frequent.
01:09So, you know, I'm quite happy with that.
01:12But it's the longer journeys I think they need to address.
01:15I use Dennis Powys, which is quite local to me.
01:18It's only three or four steps down the road from here.
01:19Cardiff Central is fine.
01:21Your complaint I'll make is that the services, especially to go up north, for instance, my trip to Birmingham was instead of a nine car service, it was three.
01:35So everybody was standing.
01:36And it's just, it's just not viable, you know?
01:40Yeah, there is a train station.
01:42I think there should be, like, newer trains to make it, like, more out there.
01:47Like, you know, the new Class 231s are the newer ones that run across Kogan.
01:52There should be more of them because, well, it looks nicer.
01:55And people are like, oh, that looks like a nice, comfortable, reliable train.
01:58You know, people want comfort, the travel, the reliable transport, you know?
02:04Well, to be honest, it's, like, a long journey from Yeovil, from down Somerset in England, over two hours.
02:10But it was quite great.
02:13I managed to rest a little bit on the train as well.
02:16Quite a good experience, to be fair.
02:18Like, very smooth.
02:18Yeah, so I live in areas where trains are.
02:23Yeah, so I don't think that's anywhere about, yeah, I get what I mean.
02:29It's been quite very easy.
02:31And, you know, I like the fact that once you just go inside, the signs are there and it's available.
02:38And the train staff, station staff are also very nice.
02:42Today, when I was going to Newport, I bought a ticket and then I mistakenly bought it for Barry.
02:51And then I went to the train station staff.
02:54And she happily changed it for me and then updated it for me, which was quite very nice, yeah.
