00:00The survival of evacuees or displaced people in times of calamity hinges largely on the DSWD's food packs
00:06shipped to strategically located or pre-positioned sites for quick distribution.
00:11Now passengers on inter-island ferry travel who wound up stranded in ports when calamity strikes
00:17can be assured of such a lifeline as our Noel Talacay reports on meals ready-to-eat boxes from the DSWD.
00:23This box can help a disaster-striking family survive hunger.
00:31This is a ready-to-eat food box from the Department of Social Welfare and Development or DSWD.
00:38Now that the rainy and typhoon season has started in the country,
00:43the DSWD will begin distributing these boxes to ports and the agency's field offices.
00:50This is to immediately provide food to stranded passengers at ports.
00:56This is nationwide. This will be dispatched and allocated to our field offices.
01:02However, sa mga field offices natin na mayroong mga critical ports,
01:06there will be an engagement naman with their local PPA.
01:10He says they will also have an agreement with the Philippine Ports Authority or PPA
01:15on which ports can be designated for the placement of ready-to-eat food boxes.
01:21According to him, several ports have been identified by the PPA
01:27based on data on the number of stranded passengers over the past three years.
01:33Number one nila yung Bicol. Second is the Eastern Samar, Leyte side.
01:39Then the Port of Batangas. Then we have the Mariduque Quezon Port.
01:46Then NCR North, dito sa Manila.
01:50Then we have the Western Leyte and Biliran, Agusan.
01:56And then number eight rank nila is Panay Gimaras.
02:02And number nine is Mindoro.
02:05Number ten is Palawan.
02:07So right now we are going to unbox the ready-to-eat food box of the SWD
02:12and let's check what's inside in this box.
02:15And we have the chicken rice porridge and chocolate rice porridge.
02:21And we have also here biscuits and five pieces of spoon and fork.
02:28And also there are seven pieces of canned goods.
02:33Ten thousand ready-to-eat food boxes will be prepositioned by the agency
02:39to their field offices nationwide including ports.
02:43Quintilia assures that the food in the ready-to-eat food boxes is nutritious.
02:48The food is checked by DOST-FNRI before being purchased by the DSWD.
02:56During our procurement, in-assure namin na yung supplier natin ng mga items inside the food box
03:03ay meron siya ng certification from the DOST-FNRI that na-follow yung specification and standards.
03:10So this is our document saying that these items are approved by the Department of Science, Technology, and the Food FNRI.
03:21120,000 ready-to-eat food boxes have been prepared by the DSWD.
03:27They are all halal certified.
03:29Each box is enough for one meal for a family of five.
