00:00In other news, the third international women's meeting of the United Federation of Transportation
00:05of Latin America and the Caribbean kicked off on Wednesday in Venezuela.
00:09Our correspondent Chala Fall with the details.
00:13The last manolitus movement formed by women of the United Federation of Transportation
00:20of Latin America and the Caribbean inaugurated its third international meeting this Wednesday
00:25in Caracas. Under the slogan of social justice and gender equity, the event invites to reflect
00:30from a feminist perspective on the current challenges of the trade union and anti-fascist
00:34struggle.
00:34This meeting is an exchange. You know that what knowledge is, we have been dominated more
00:43by ignorance really than by force. And these are the moments of awakening, symposiums that
00:48really nourish the wisdom of us as women, that invite us to be able to unite in a single feeling
00:52and to know that we are not alone.
00:59Promoting unity among women transport workers also means recognizing the progress made in
01:05recent. In this historically male-dominated sector, women have been able to conquer their
01:09space and gain more visibility.
01:11In principle, now that women are driving, that they are driving buses, that they are driving
01:18ships, that they can drive subway cars. That has been the first advance, because even collectively,
01:23socially, it is something that cannot be digested very well now. Then the trade union issue,
01:28which is an important moment among women because it is a space that used to be absolutely masculine.
01:33Today, women stand out not only as drivers, but also in administrative, technical and training
01:45areas, leading the processes of innovation and transformation of society as a whole.
01:49That is, are women arranging, knowing the structures of the different means of transportation,
01:57participating in that knowledge, and also in the construction of new proposals from that
02:01level. So, it is not only because sometimes we think that they are transporters, or that
02:05they are the ones who drive some of our means of transportation, no, it is much more than that.
02:10It is even technical and professional training in the sector which, as you mentioned, was historically
02:20an exclusive sector for the attention, for the training, for the participation of men, and
02:24it seemed that women could not be there.
02:29The presence of hundreds of male delegates at the opening ceremony joining this mobilization
02:37of women is surprising. However, for them there is no contradiction in this.
02:44Because we believe that this is an integration, it is not a conflict, or should not be a conflict,
02:49between men and women. We have a common enemy, which is capitalism, which is the governments,
02:53and the businessmen who benefit from it. And therefore, the unity between men and women
02:58and the spaces that we should all have should be in function of the project.
03:04This great meeting will last two days, and more than a thousand Venezuelan and international
03:11representatives are expected to participate. In the face of the growth of fascism worldwide,
03:16women workers in Latin America are empowered and united to defend peace and social justice.
03:21Chada Folk, from Caracas, Venezuela, for Tele Sur.
