00:00United Nations Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher was in the Congo's North Kivu province on Tuesday, visiting displaced families.

00:10The region is home to one of Africa's longest-running conflicts and what the UN calls one of the world's most serious humanitarian crises.

00:20These families were forced to return to Shasha village after M23 rebels seized the provincial capital Goma.

00:30We didn't want to go back. It was M23 who forced us to return, because we knew we had a government.

00:39When they arrived, they asked us to go home, because the war was over.

00:44They said that those who did not obey would be considered enemies, and we thought it best to go back home after hearing that.

00:52Before, we lived a good life, because we lived without the war.

01:01But everything we owned was over because of the war.

01:05Today, we live on aid, and without it, we can't live.

01:09That aid has been hit by a freeze on U.S. funding.

01:14Other agencies are working to make up the shortfall, but the needs are enormous, with many returning to homes that have been looted or destroyed.
