There are new questions about whether the U.S. military strikes 'obliterated' the country's nuclear program or only set it back by a few months. Iran has insisted, however, that it will not give up its nuclear program and in a vote underscoring the challenging path ahead, Iranian parliament agreed to fast-track a proposal that would effectively stop the country’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Vienna-based U.N. watchdog that has been monitoring the Iranian nuclear program for years.
00:00Let's take a look at the latest on the Israel-Iran war.
00:07There are new questions this morning about whether the U.S. military strikes obliterated the country's nuclear program or only set it back a few months.
00:16ABC's Nicole D'Antonio in Washington with details on the new report and reaction from the White House.
00:22This morning, President Trump at the NATO summit in the Netherlands, meeting with world leaders just hours after he announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
00:32The president doubling down on his claim that the Iranian nuclear sites were completely destroyed from the U.S. strikes,
00:38but conceding that he's awaiting additional intelligence assessment from the Israelis.
00:42It was, I believe it was total obliteration. I believe they didn't have a chance to get anything out because we acted fast.
00:50But sources tell ABC News a preliminary Pentagon report indicates the damage was limited,
00:55saying Iran's nuclear program was only set back a few months.
00:59The preliminary report from the Defense Intelligence Agency and U.S. Central Command
01:03says that much of Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed because it was moved before the U.S. struck.
01:10900 pounds of near-weapons-grade uranium is also unaccounted for, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
01:17Lawmakers like the top Senate Intelligence Democrat, who have attacked the White House for being kept in the dark on the strikes,
01:24remain critical after reviewing the classified report on the damage.
01:28We also have got questions about where all of Iran's enriched uranium is located at this point.
01:35And if it's not taken out, what next? Are our troops still in harm's way?
01:41But a top U.S. military commander says even after Saturday's attack, Iran remains a serious threat to U.S. forces in the Middle East.
01:49They do. They possess considerable tactical capability.
01:54Back at the NATO summit, the conflict in the Middle East still looms large, along with a host of issues,
02:00including the unresolved Russia-Ukraine war and Trump's controversial comments about whether America will be faithful to Alliance's core mutual defense pact.
02:08Meanwhile, the special envoy to the Middle East now calling for an investigation into the leaked Pentagon report,
02:16saying whoever is responsible should be held accountable.
