Tommy Brakel on the 1st Year expectations for Cooper Flagg

North Crowley head basketball coach and longtime athletic coordinator Tommy Brackle joined the show to provide firsthand insight on Cooper Flagg, who is projected to be drafted first overall by the Dallas Mavericks. Brackle coached the West team at the 2024 McDonald’s All-American Game, where he went up against Flagg. He explained what makes Flagg so NBA-ready, pointing to his high basketball IQ and composed competitiveness.

00:18i mean he's going to come in year one and he is going to make a huge difference i was asked the

00:24other day about you know well do you feel like that he'll fit in good with the mavericks roster

00:35the right basketball place i mean what did he average 19 and a half or something a game i mean

00:40seven and a half rebounds but four and a half assists i mean the numbers speak for themselves

00:57translate there's no part of his game that anybody would think didn't translate is there a part of

01:03his game like uh his body his his defense off is there a part of his game that's more nba ready

01:10than the others i mean i feel like it was just his basketball iq and his basketball what you know as

01:17coaches we a lot of times talk about feel i mean just an incredible feel for the game and just making

01:23the right play with everything he does that was the part to me that was so impressive i mean he was

01:28the number one you know player in the nation at that time and you know he probably could have went

01:33down and even in a in a field as talented as that mcdonald's all american field scored on almost every

01:39you know possession but he didn't he just made the right play he made his teammates around him better

01:43he made the right play when it needed to be made you know by him he was just it just the impression that

01:51he made i mean and that's just the basketball side of it i mean his first impression was more of just

01:56the kind of person he was and the kind of young man that he was
