“Successful, wonderful liftoff….”, Australian envoy praises NASA’s Axiom 4 Mission

It's a great moment for India...Group Captain Shukla took off with the other members, and it was such a successful and wonderful liftoff. It's an image of India's coming of age as a great player in space and indeed India's arrival as a major player in global affairs.”

00:00Well, it's a wonderful moment. It's a great moment for India.

00:04Personally, for me, a great moment of my assignment here in India and my whole diplomatic career

00:08to be here at this very moment when Group Clerk Captain Shukla took off with the other members of the space capsule.

00:16Such a successful and wonderful liftoff.

00:21It's an image, really, of India's coming of age as a great player in space

00:27and, indeed, India's arrival as a major player in global affairs.

00:31Sir, is there any potential for collaboration between Australia and India and space structures and exploration?

00:39There's huge potential for collaboration.

00:42We have fast-growing space sectors. Ours is growing by 10% a year.

00:47What Australia have and what India has in space are quite different.

00:51We have a large continent, very small population, so dark skies,

00:56huge areas for take-off and landing, and great capabilities for tracking in space.

01:03So you might recall when the Gaganyan space capsule landed on the south pole of the moon,

01:09it was an Australian tracking station which first got the message back from it.

01:14So we think there is huge opportunity between Australia and India,

01:18and I'm determined to make the most of it.

01:19And so how might the Gaganyan impact Australia-India reaction

01:24related to the field of space technology?

01:27Well, I think it's just another symbol, another image of India's arrival

01:33as a major player in the world of space.

01:36To be honest, that's already pretty well known in the Australian space sector,

01:40but if there was any doubt in the Australian space sector

01:43that this is an ecosystem that we should be engaging with, that doubt is gone.
