00:00From ancient settlements to royal tombs, archeological discoveries in Kazakhstan offer a window into millennia of early Central Asian civilizations and help reshape our understanding of modern Kazakh identity.
00:17Welcome to Kazakhstan. Welcome to Modern Nomaz.
00:20We begin this episode in Birel, the place in eastern Kazakhstan widely known for its stunning scenery and archeological discoveries.
00:32Nestled at the foot of the Altai Mountains, this site holds a remarkable past.
00:37On the brink of a new millennium, Kazakh archeologists uncover here a tomb of Saka nobles buried here for over 2,000 years.
00:46Today, it's known as the Valley of the Kings.
00:48After years of archeological excavations, around 100 aristocratic burials have been uncovered at the site.
00:56While many date back to the Saka period, the necropolis also includes remains from the later Turkic era.
01:02Today, the 170 hectare site is protected and open to the public.
01:18Stone-paved burial mounds form a chain led by the largest and oldest, tomb No. 1. The earlier the period, the larger the mount.
01:37These Grand Saka era tombs offer insights into nomadic traditions dating back half a millennium before Christ.
01:45The most astonishing discovery was the burial of a royal couple. Alongside the man and woman, there were 13 horses, all bridled, saddled and decorated with wooden horns, like those of the mountain goat.
01:59This reconstruction stands exactly where the original burial was uncovered.
02:03Right next to the necropolis is a museum showcasing all the discovered artifacts, wooden jewelry and decorations animal-inspired, adorned with gold, household items and reconstructions of humans and horses.
02:17Today, the site draws visitors from across Kazakhstan and abroad.
02:42Today, the site draws visitors from across Kazakhstan and abroad.
02:44East Kazakhstan is rich in ancient heritage.
02:48We are now heading to the outskirts of Oskimen city,
02:51where another archaeological site awaits.
02:53Akbaor is a complex of settlements dating back to the Bronze and Early Iron Age.
02:58We often find fragments of keramics,
03:02such as this fragment.
03:05Can I keep this?
03:07No?
03:08OK.
03:09In this village, it was very rich.
03:15There was a very deep building.
03:17This is one building, here is the second building,
03:19and the third building went there.
03:21They could form a building with a center.
03:24All buildings were united.
03:26This discovery breaks the stereotype that the Sakha was purely nomadic.
03:31The settled communities revealed that today's heritage
03:34is rooted in diverse and advanced civilizations.
03:37The region of East Kazakhstan was always a region of the URG.
03:40To be able to study it, we need a lot of time,
03:43and, of course, resources,
03:45which sometimes are not enough,
03:46to make all the necessary analyses.
03:48From East Kazakhstan we head to the heart of the country,
03:51Astana.
03:52The capital houses Kazakhstan's most iconic archaeological find,
03:56an earth in 1969 from the Issyktium in the south,
04:00the Golden Man or Altinadam in Kazakh.
04:04The first building is a'Staill in the Connecticut city,
04:07and the first building is a set of No-ring,
04:09part of the territory of Kazakhstan.
04:14It's from the IV-III BC to the back of our n.e.
04:17Aujourd'hui, les caractéristiques archeologiques continuent à
04:47attract crowds, both local and international, becoming powerful symbols of the nation's
04:53ancient legacy and carrying that heritage into the future.
