00:04Hello, my name is Johnny Dade and I'm a vicar in the Church of England.
00:11A woman once quit. My husband and I married for better and for worse.
00:16He couldn't have done better and I couldn't have done worse.
00:20It's a bit harsh and it's only a joke, thank goodness.
00:23But if you've ever been to a wedding ceremony, you will recognise the language.
00:30Couples promise to remain faithful to one another for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health.
00:43A famous Bible passage for many wedding couples is St John's first letter to the Corinthians and chapter 13.
00:51Possibly the greatest written definition of love of all time.
00:56Love is patient. Love is kind. It's neither selfish nor proud. It doesn't dishonour or self-seek.
01:05It's not easily angered, nor does it keep score.
01:09Love is tree, trustworthy, hopeful and enduring.
01:14It's beautiful poetry, but the content is profoundly challenging.
01:21The bar for love is raised high.
01:24And more than that, St Paul's descriptions of love are action-orientated.
01:30Love is a doing thing more than a feelings thing.
01:34Feelings are fleeting and often unreliable.
01:37But true love endures, matures and is refined through the better and the worse.
