00:00Why?
00:01Why?
00:02Why?
00:03Why kill Dylan?
00:04Because I don't want to leave no witnesses.
00:07I'm going to carry it out all the way that I could.
00:10And by carry it out all the way, do you mean kill them?
00:13Kill them all.
00:15It's difficult because, you know, I thought I knew who my brother was.
00:23He was my protector.
00:28He was also my friend, my best friend in my eyes.
00:36He was the best brother.
00:38Never in a million years would I have thought he would be capable of such a thing.
00:47It makes me sick to my stomach.
00:49I don't know if I should love him or if I should hate him.
00:55But it's hard, dude.
00:58He loved those kids.
01:12He loved Stephanie.
01:14Why would he do something like this?
01:19I don't know what's the truth.
01:21I would like answers.
01:23I might get the answers and I don't like what I hear.
01:30But I just want the truth.
01:33All I heard was Dylan yell and already had the knife in my hand.
01:53I just seen a shadow take off and Dylan was in the way and that's when I ended up stabbing him.
01:58As soon as I stabbed him, my dribbling went all the way up.
02:02I felt like I was being attacked and I just couldn't stop.
02:09I think I was a little hoof.
02:11When I was a little doctor and I wasn't dead of this.
02:15I told him if he was.
02:17I couldn't stop.
02:18I just wanted to begin with Matt.
02:19You have to tell him what I need.
02:20I was a little figure, but I don't want to.
02:21I told him to tell him what he had in my life.
02:22I couldn't stop him.
02:23I told him.
02:24This is a picture of me and my brother.
02:54I would say I was probably around 11 years old and my brother probably around 13.
03:09We lived out in the country.
03:10We were constantly around the animals on the farm.
03:17They had llamas and stuff out in the pasture.
03:21And one of them tried to spit at me when I walked up to him, so that was fun.
03:30That was probably the happiest I saw my brother.
03:38Kristen, these are happy times and you're crying.
03:45Yeah, because I know I'm never going to be able to feel that ever again.
03:51Brandon and I, we share the same mom, but we have different dads.
04:04We were stuck like glue to each other for a lot of the time we were in foster care.
04:23We played outdoors a lot.
04:29We would play cops and robbers and we'd build forts and stuff.
04:35He protected me.
04:36We took care of each other.
04:38If I needed something, he was there just to make me laugh.
04:44You know, he'd play with me and play Barbies.
04:51He's probably going to be upset I said that, but he did.
04:57He was the best brother.
05:03It only lasted for a short time.
05:09And then the rest of the memories, you know, they're not good.
05:18It was one afternoon.
05:37It was after school.
05:40My adopted family sat me down and told me they asked him to leave the house.
05:46You know, your brother's gotten into a lot of trouble.
05:50They found drugs in his bedroom.
05:53He started getting in trouble at school, getting into fights.
05:58He got kicked out of school.
06:05I don't want you to go.
06:07I was definitely surprised because it's like this is all we ever wanted was to be together, have a family, you know, that loves us.
06:26Like, why, why was he doing all that to ruin it for him and for me?
06:47At the house, the family who adopted me, we would always have our newspaper delivered.
06:56One morning, I walked outside the house to go grab it from the driveway, just to read the cartoons on the Sunday paper.
07:06Before I could even get to the cartoons, I see my brother's name.
07:14He had been arrested for gang-related activities.
07:23Him and some people who he was with went to a guy's house and beat him up in his front yard, broad daylight.
07:36My brother attacking somebody, like, to the point where this person's, like, not able to get up.
07:46Like, he's bloody all over.
07:49It was such a surprise to me.
07:50I've never seen my brother hurt anybody.
07:53I never saw him lay his hands on anybody.
08:02Just angry, just not knowing what was going on.
08:05I just didn't know how much and how far he was changing.
08:23He said he did not want to beat this guy up.
08:36And he said he was made to.
08:39His father forced him into a van, drove up to this guy's house.
08:46His father told him that if he wasn't going to do it, then he himself would get beat up.
08:55And he would make his father look bad.
08:59I didn't have a choice.
09:04I was real upset.
09:05I was livid, to be honest.
09:09Like, everything I knew about his father, everything that we both knew growing up about his father.
09:17It was like, why would you want that kind of person around?
09:22Why?
09:24Like, we're supposed to want better.
09:28I was just so disappointed.
09:31I'm sorry.
09:34He pleaded guilty.
09:35He did it.
09:36You know, he needs to take responsibility.
09:39But I really believe that there was some influence from his father or other people.
10:04And he'd always tell me, I'm so sorry.
10:09I'm so sorry I'm not the brother that you wanted and needed.
10:21To me, those sorries, those apologies, didn't mean .
10:33Because he'd say sorry.
10:35And then he'd do something.
10:38Get in trouble.
10:40Get locked up again.
10:48This call is from a correctional facility and may be monitored and recorded.
10:52Do you remember actually any part of committing the crime?
11:00I mean, I could see the whole scene playing out.
11:03Um, stabbing everything.
11:05All three girls.
11:07And Dylan, I remember stabbing all of them.
11:10This is, uh, a photo of Brandon and Stephanie.
11:31And, you know, I know they loved each other a lot.
11:36Brandon and Stephanie met before he went to jail.
11:39And he told me he wrote to her.
11:41They had plans to, you know, get married once he got out and, like, have a family and all that.
11:48Brandon took her kids under, you know, under his wing.
11:58I think he just really wanted to be, you know, a father figure to those kids.
12:04I've seen how happy they are.
12:06Yeah.
12:07It definitely confuses me even more as to, you know, why it happened.
12:23Brandon was, you know, trying to get back on his feet by, you know, getting a job.
12:38And he's going to his meetings.
12:40He's doing his parole work.
12:43Like, he's doing good.
12:45Let me know when you need me to come back.
12:47I will.
12:50One day, I, you know, got a call from Brandon.
12:53And he needed a ride, uh, downtown to meet his parole officer.
13:00I picked him up.
13:02I dropped him off.
13:03And that was that.
13:07A couple days later, Brandon calls me.
13:12And he tells me, I lied to you.
13:15I didn't see my parole officer.
13:18I instead met up with my father.
13:21Of course, I was upset.
13:45For one, he lied to me.
13:46For two, he saw his father.
13:48And for three, someone had pulled a weapon out on my brother, you know.
13:54I did believe my brother, what he was telling me.
13:57Because to me, that seems possible.
14:02I, uh, told him, look, you need to go and file a report.
14:08So we, you know, go to the police station.
14:12And I decide at that time to start filming.
14:16If you want to tell me the truth that, yes, I did try and cash these checks because I was told I was going to get some cash out of it.
14:24That you all were just trying to score some cash.
14:26And that you're on camera and all these banks trying to cash these checks.
14:30Yeah.
14:31So the logical thing was to say that you were forced to do it so you won't catch a charge.
14:35We were forced to do it.
14:37You're just pinpointing at my brother here and he's trying to do the right thing and report the crime to you.
14:43Your mother's trying not to get a charge.
14:44No.
14:45It was so confusing what happened that day.
14:47I was like, is he guilty?
14:49What?
14:50Okay, so put your hand on your back.
14:54He's my brother.
14:55I, you know, I needed to believe him.
15:01But, you know, if my brother is anything like his father, then I guess he would be a really good liar, I guess.
15:09Just, he learned that, I would say.
15:15So I know he's not telling us the whole truth.
15:20I take him back over to his house roughly around 9.20, 9.30 in the morning.
15:48You'll let me know if you need anything?
15:51I will.
15:52I made sure he got in safely, closed the door, and I backed up and I left.
15:59Nothing seemed out of the unordinary with him.
16:05I didn't feel any kind of shift in emotions or body language from him.
16:13Everything just seemed normal.
16:16I got a call from my friend and she said, turn on the news.
16:31It's your brother.
16:32Okay, I'm turning it on now.
16:35The devastating sight to drive up to.
16:38All I see is my brother sitting on a gurney in the back of an ambulance.
16:45I don't remember any information being said.
16:48I just zoned out the audio.
16:51I just saw the picture in front of me and I remember seeing blood on his clothing and his hands wrapped in bandages.
17:04I just panicked.
17:05I thought my brother got hurt.
17:07I didn't know maybe someone had attacked him.
17:11I didn't know him.
17:13Me and my family were left in the dark.
17:23drive all the way to the police station to you know talk to a detective you know
17:30put a statement whatever and I remember exiting out of the room that they had me
17:38in and I looked down the hallway and I see like three maybe four cops standing
17:43outside a door another interrogation room and I just think to myself okay like
17:51that's got to be my brother
17:5813 year old Dylan Moore and his mother Stephanie Plum were killed two of her
18:03other children two girls were also attacked and seriously wounded even with
18:08her throat cut and covered with blood a 14 year old girl was able to run next
18:13door and get help officers say King ran from the home but was arrested just a
18:17few blocks away after he tried to steal a neighbor's car according to court
18:21records King told detectives quote I'm guilty
18:24it doesn't make sense what happened why he did what he did
18:39after you know going back and watching the news clip again of my brother being put on the gurney and and in
18:53the ambulance I really just just looked at him and his facial expression at that
19:04time and it was nothing my brother lost himself when he killed Stephanie when he
19:14killed Dylan he lost his soul that's like one of the biggest sins of all you know
19:28there's there's no coming back from that you can't bring him back
19:39even though Brandon confessed to it I I think there is something missing I I don't know what it is I'm just
19:57going based off of you know what I feel what I know is you know he loved Stephanie he loved those kids
20:08he's only ever wanted to be a dad you know and have a family of his own one of my
20:15uncles I was told it was supposed to be a burglary but it ended up being you know a murder
20:25I never asked my brother his side I'd like to know answers there has to be reasoning right like what
20:40what is it that that drove him to the state of mind he was in to you know commit such a such a crime
20:53you know taking two lives I just want the truth
21:23what have you talked to your sister about in regards to the night of December 31st we really
21:33ain't even really 100 talked about it from my sister's point of view I can also I can see how
21:39she looks at that because she's seen how much I love the kids and also love Steph and for the event
21:45and the stuff that happened on that day it's a shock to everybody I do love her because she is my sister
21:53she is my family it's hard to even be a big brother in this situation but if I can give her feedback if
22:02she ever needs help then I will can you tell me how you came to meet Stephanie Plum through my dad back in I
22:11believe it was 2011 um he just basically introduced us at a gas station just started connecting from there
22:20getting to know each other she had a couple kids already we started dating and stuff like that we talked
22:28about maybe down the road maybe getting married and stuff when he woke up we started talking about
22:48breakfast and what we're going to do for the day I went to the back of Dylan because that's where we
22:53keep the freezers back there there's a knife that we use to chisel the food and stuff off the eyes
22:58because it freezes pretty good so when we were in there there's a shadow I can't really I'm gonna be
23:07honest I still don't remember who it was it happened so fast and all I hear is a yell I grabbed a knife
23:13all I heard was Dylan yell and when I heard Dylan yell I'm wondering in my head why he yell and I already
23:20had the knife in my hand and I just seen the shadow so I went towards the shadow and Dylan got in the
23:26way and that's when the knife went inside Dylan and as soon as that did it was like in my head it was
23:34like holy crap but at the same time I started feeling like I was being attacked my adrenaline
23:38just went all the way up can you tell me who are you being attacked by no all I remember is seeing her
24:02move into the living room I know she kept saying Brandon stop Brandon stop and when she said that
24:11it it registered within my head but at the same time it really didn't register because I still felt
24:19like I was being attacked and that's when I started going after her where did you stab Stephanie
24:24uh multiple places just like I said in my discovery um I remember I said face arms chest and stuff like
24:34that did she know like the person that she loved the most was stabbing her and her children I don't
24:42remember seeing any emotion or anything she's wondering probably in her head why is this happening
24:47I mean I feel like that's the main question everyone's trying to understand why
24:52I've asked myself that question I'm still asking myself that question
24:56so a couple days before this this happened on December 31st you had a fight yeah nice little
25:14argument that ended up making where her mom wanted me to go uh leave the house for that night and I
25:22basically just slept outside and they had me come back the next day let me ask you a question about
25:30the fight that you and Stephanie had was there something that happened that we don't know about
25:35that made you angry that set any of this in motion nothing set this in motion but when I came back um
25:45they basically welcomed me back and just we talked about everything the situation that happened that
25:52night and just moved on because it was Christmas coming up was there an issue in the relationship was
25:59she was she gonna break up with you there was nothing like that we were doing good
26:06why did this whole thing need to happen I don't know just felt like I was being attacked but I
26:12wasn't physically being attacked by anybody so you acknowledged that nobody was actually attacking you
26:18tell me about the shadow Brandon who did you see I honestly still don't remember as soon as I heard
26:25Dylan yell I just seen a shadow take off and I seen basically the back of the person run out the
26:32side door I was there but I wasn't there I was seeing black but I was also seeing people around
26:38me it was like everything was happening so fast
26:42closure is very important to me um that is why I'm doing this you don't know what you're going to find out
27:02it's a scary thought
27:06okay are you ready yeah not really but I need to answer so
27:22all I heard was Dylan yell and when I heard Dylan yell I'm wondering in my head why he yell
27:30and I already had the knife in my hand and I just seen the shadow so I went towards the shadow
27:35and Dylan got in the way and that's when the knife went inside Dylan
27:39I just seen the shadow take off and I seen basically the back of the person run out the
27:48side door I started feeling like I was being attacked my adrenaline just went all the way up
27:51I just started going through the house looking for people
27:54now he stated that he saw a shadow figure run out the back door and Dylan screamed and he
28:12what brushed into him with a knife and hurt him and then his adrenaline took over
28:20and then what he just started attacking Dylan because of a shadow I don't it it
28:29it doesn't make sense to me
28:34I know it's hard to think about um but what did you do to Dylan
28:48okay where'd you stand him at
28:59and then where'd you go after
29:15okay and who was in the living room
29:21you don't bring up a shadow to the detectives
29:49I mean that information would seem pretty important to include
29:54but I never mentioned anybody else that wasn't in my mindset at the time being that
30:01oh here's a shadow here I didn't I wanted the interview to end
30:04you know I physically took lives
30:07you're willing to sacrifice your freedom just to end the interview
30:11no
30:12well essentially by not mentioning the key you know the shadow and the noise
30:19and that's what happened
30:20it goes back to the fact that I did see a shadow that day
30:26maybe that was my dad that I seen
30:28but I never physically seen him like face in the house
30:33are you really telling us that there was somebody
30:39that that caused this that put this in motion
30:42and it wasn't you
30:43I would basically say that yes
30:46so now there's um
30:58so now he's saying that his dad was there
31:02but that that still that still doesn't make any sense
31:08like
31:08that doesn't make any sense
31:19you know I wanted so badly to believe that
31:28yeah
31:33that he you know wasn't the only one
31:39or that he didn't do it
31:42or you know he blacked out
31:45I don't know
31:46you know
31:46Detective Sweet interviewed Brandon's father
32:00there was not enough evidence to prove that he was involved in this crime
32:07my brother committed the crime
32:11they caught him
32:14yeah
32:15blood on his clothing
32:17murder weapon with his prints on it
32:22he pleaded guilty
32:25he did it
32:25so can you tell me what happened today
32:36what was the new charge you were facing
32:46so I did have a forgery charge at that time being
32:58that was pending
32:59my uncle was having some problems
33:01and my uncle was on the run
33:03I told him that Steph's mom was in the hospital
33:06there's $800 inside the dresser drawer
33:09and that there's a van here
33:12I told the detectives that I planned on running
33:15and just going ahead with my dad
33:16and my uncle
33:17and taking the van and the money
33:19I don't think anybody wants to hear
33:25that you know their sibling
33:28did such a heinous crime
33:36I don't think anybody would
33:40you know
33:40want that to become their reality
33:43why would
33:47why would you commit
33:50such a heinous crime
33:52because you're
33:55looking at a forgery charge
33:58that is
33:59like
34:00so small
34:02and equivalent to
34:04you know
34:05a murder
34:06like
34:06why
34:07the crime that started
34:19that was going to be planned
34:20was the car
34:21and the money
34:21to make it look like
34:22there was a burglary
34:23there was no intent
34:25on taking anybody's life
34:27you had told police
34:30that your intention
34:31was to kill everybody
34:34yeah
34:35explain that to me
34:37and why
34:37I just felt like
34:40at that time
34:41when I was having the interview
34:43that I just lost everything
34:44that I just gave up
34:47I just basically said
34:49hey
34:49I just wanted to kill everybody
34:51I don't know
34:52it was just a comment
34:53that I made out of the blue
34:54because I've
34:58emotionally
34:59just lost people
35:00that I loved
35:01and cared about
35:02and not knowing
35:03what's going on with them
35:05and stuff like that
35:06obviously
35:07you know
35:07you didn't
35:09lose them
35:10to somebody else
35:11right
35:12you took their lives
35:13yeah
35:14I know it's hard
35:30to think about
35:31but what did you
35:33do to Dylan
35:34how'd you react
35:59to her telling you
35:59to stop
36:00it wasn't after her
36:01okay
36:01and what'd you do to her
36:03it makes me sick to my stomach
36:25I've never thought
36:30I would ever hear
36:31those words
36:32come out of his mouth
36:34when he said that
36:40it
36:41kind of opened my eyes
36:44to
36:45to seeing exactly
36:47and how
36:48evil
36:50he really is
36:53and
36:54I feel stupid
36:57for
36:59not seeing it
37:01for wanting to have hope
37:05that it wasn't true
37:08he was being told to stop
37:13you know
37:15by Stephanie
37:15by the girls
37:17and
37:19he wouldn't stop
37:21he had to know
37:22if he's
37:26comprehending
37:28you know
37:29people telling him
37:30to stop
37:30which I've never heard
37:32that until today
37:34in my honest opinion
37:36he knew
37:39he knew what he was doing
37:40he just
37:42didn't care to stop
37:47didn't
37:47didn't stop
37:50everything
37:53may not be
37:54exactly the answers
37:56I was looking for
37:58hoping for
37:58I at least got more insight
38:01than I had before
38:03it doesn't make it
38:06any easier
38:07but it
38:12does
38:13give a
38:15sense
38:17of
38:17relief
38:18they say the eyes
38:23are the
38:24you know
38:24window
38:24to the soul
38:26his eyes
38:27are not the same
38:28figuratively
38:34that's my brother
38:35but looking at
38:38that person
38:39that's
38:41that's not my brother
38:45I lost my brother
38:51a long time ago
38:53I lost my brother
39:10the
39:13I know my brother did it.
39:25He's, you know, he's guilty.
39:27It was easier for me to believe the version that involved my brother and his father
39:33than, you know, than the other version.
39:39That it was just my brother.
39:42Thank you, Brandon.
39:43You're welcome.
39:43The punishment that my brother received is, is definitely punishment, um, and no.
40:01How are you feeling?
40:02I'm good.
40:05Seemed a little emotional.
40:07A little bit.
40:07I'll probably end up going back to the set.
40:09I'm thinking about this.
40:10Now he's running it up.
40:11Why crying?
40:14Just emotional.
40:18Well, thank you.
40:19Well, he's never going to get out of prison.
40:26He's going to live each and every day remembering what he did to Stephanie and those kids.
40:39And that's punishment enough.
40:42The death penalty would have been too easy.
40:46He has to live with this.
40:48And it's really hard to say, but that's justice for that family.
41:01That's what they need.
41:05It's justice.
41:06Kind of shocking to hear that my papa killed somebody.
41:17I was like a jack-o-and-hide.
41:19I went into another mind frame from breaking somebody's leg to shooting somebody, killing somebody.
41:25How many times have you done that?
41:28Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:30Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:30Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:30Ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:30Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:31Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:31Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:32Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:34Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
41:34Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
