00:00Safety car, 40 minutos on the clock, let's get ready to race here at Watkins Glen.
00:07The safety car peels off right-handed and leaves the field in the hands of Riley Dickinson.
00:14It's the Searlands' six hours of the Glen week end and the second competition for Porsche Carrera Cup North America.
00:22It's a long hold as they come down to the green flag, which is in the air.
00:29And we are racing. Riley Dickinson pushed across to the inside wall, Ryan Yardley right on his tail.
00:35Might be bump drafting him down the front straight as Jimmy Lieber comes around the outside.
00:38He by far got the best start. There's a touch and there's four wide and Dickinson's in the wall.
00:44Dickinson in the wall on the right-hand side, the championship leader in trouble early on, but he's still moving.
00:49Maybe got away with that. Has he got a puncture? No, there's a huge accident behind.
00:54That will have been the knock on. This will be a red flag, I think.
00:57We can't drive through that. We've seen this before with the Porsches here at Watkins Glen International.
01:05They're funneled down. Someone will have gone wide going through turn one and got Squirrelly coming back on the kerbs.
01:12Facing the wrong direction. Cars all over the place.
01:14The green, number 12, turning around.
01:17Right in the middle of that as well is Jordy Miller in the silver, number 21.
01:22Scott Blind, championship leader in the Masters class as well.
01:27Todd Parriott, I think, got through.
01:30Second place driver in that championship.
01:33There's still a bit of Austin Powers back and forth going on to get the cars moving.
01:38It's Peter Atwater hoping to drive away.
01:41He may well have dodged yet another accident.
01:43He dodged one yesterday.
01:45Looks like he is going to be able to drive away from that accident.
01:49I think he may well have a front left tyre maybe going down.
01:53I thought that...
01:54So...
01:54We'll see.
01:55Riley defending with the green and white car.
01:58Round the outside, Jimmy Libra.
02:00And then we get three across the track.
02:02As I said, people coming back on.
02:04Riley Dickinson did brush the wall and the edge of the track.
02:07But it's behind him where it all goes on.
02:10My goodness me.
02:11We had a car up on its side for one moment or two.
02:18And that was Jordy Miller's number 21 car that took a wild ride.
02:24And James Sofronis as well.
02:27Getting into that as well, into the back of another car.
02:31Oh, it's all arms and elbows.
02:32Oh, dear.
02:32That was a very acute angle hit as well by a car further back down the field.
02:39I think that's the car at the back there.
02:41We've lost at least three cars in that, possibly even more.
02:46And Peter Atwater is going to have to put the lottery on this weekend if he has driven away from that.
02:52Two championship leaders.
02:53Two class championship leaders involved there in the pro class overall.
02:58And in the secondary class.
03:00One of the secondary classes as well.
03:02I also saw the number 54 going around there, which is Patrick Mulcahy.
03:05He was third in Pro-Arm.
03:06That was a car I didn't pick up beforehand.
03:08And there's another car further up the track as well, Peter.
03:11Which I think is Ashley Freiburg.
03:12Yes, it is.
03:13She's being helped away.
03:15She's had no luck in the last couple of races.
03:17No.
03:18Had a good run yesterday.
03:19But that's really unlucky.
03:22Yeah, Patrick Mulcahy lost it on the curb on the exit of turn one.
03:25It's quite quick through there.
03:26And when you've got a little bit of moisture in the air, it's easy to pitch the car around.
03:30And that's exactly what happened.
03:31And that was then what kind of kicked off the whole melee.
03:34That is such a...
03:35It is an accident we've seen several times at that section of the Watkins Glen circuit.
03:42We've had it in the sale in six hours of the Glen in the past where you just need one car to even...
03:46Not even crash.
03:47One car to even have a moment and it can trigger a big accident.
03:50That's why, you know, yesterday we mentioned that when all the field got through there without incident,
03:54it was a really good job by all the drivers.
03:57But it just takes one tiny incident, one tiny, tiny mistake,
04:01and then all of a sudden it triggers a big one like that.
04:04So Scott Blind involved there.
04:06It all started with the big defence from the front.
04:09Jimmy Libra hip-checks Riley Dickinson into the barriers.
04:14But Riley came back on without any problem.
04:16I thought something might have happened earlier or further back that he kicked that off.
04:22But that wasn't the case.
04:23Richard Edge was involved there as well.
04:25Going backwards into the arm core in the number 18.
04:29That's another car that's further up the track.
04:33Scott Blind and his car is stranded there.
04:37Well, picking their way through as the rescue continues.
04:40Dickinson drove away from the incident.
04:44But it looked like Libra, when he got onto the curb, he just had a little bit of a moment
04:47and that kicked him to the right slightly.
04:49And that was when he made contact with Dickinson,
04:51which then moved him across into the wall over on the right-hand side.
04:55But for Dickinson, he'll come in there.
04:59He's probably hoping it's going to be a red flag so he can come back to the pits and have a look at things.
05:03But, yeah, there's a huge amount of clean-up work to do.
05:07There's debris everywhere, all over the circuit.
05:10Peter Atwater, by the way, has been through the pits in his JTR Motorsport Engineering Porsche, the number 12.
05:16It wasn't a good day yesterday for JTR.
05:19Scott Blind in the ruckus racing, yellow and blue overalls, walking back,
05:24being checked over by our hard-working and excellent AMR safety crew.
05:31Walking past another one of the cars involved.
05:37That was the ACI car.
05:38I think that was Marco Cironi's car.
05:40No, Marco didn't start, did he?
05:41Excuse me.
05:41So that would have been Richard Edge's car, the number 18.
05:45Yes, it was.
05:46The AMR safety crew, they have an amazing set of skills in terms of how they deal with an incident.
05:52But also, they almost have to be a little bit of a shoulder to cry on as well.
05:56Because often they're escorting a driver or helping a driver back.
06:00And they might be physically fine, but they're obviously very angry that the race is over.
06:03And they've got to have a calming nature just to diffuse the situation down.
06:07And that's quite a set of skills to have.
06:11Incidents at Turn 1 and Turn 2 under review.
06:17Peter Atwater was in the pits from pit in to pit out for about a minute.
06:22And it's a 38-second transit time.
06:25Everyone else behind the Porsche safety car.
06:28This is not just about clearing up the track, Peter.
06:30There was a couple of the steel barriers that took a pretty big hit.
06:34And I would think they'd want to have a look at that as well.
06:37There's a lot of fluids down on the track as well as pieces of car.
06:43And in behind that Porsche, white Porsche safety car.
06:50At the moment, there's no way of short-cutting that.
06:55If it was on the front straight, you could have gone down the pit lane.
06:58And they're having to drive through that.
06:59So, Riley on driver's right, camera left, is defending against Ryan Yardley.
07:05The black and red car, Jimmy Lieber, goes round the outside.
07:09Also right in there as well was Yves Baltas.
07:12But it's behind that that it all happens.
07:15And I still really haven't worked out how that kicked off behind them.
07:20But I suspect there was contact in the midfield.
07:25And then the domino effect happens.
07:27And the people have just got nowhere to go.
07:29Scott Blind right in the middle of it.
07:30Richard Edge turned backwards.
07:33And a very damaged James Sofronas coming through.
07:38Sofronas coming through.
