Bennet & Read's Dribuddi is basically a sailed-in bubble into which hot air is blown, in order to blow-dry your laundry inside the bubble. Well I've had my Dribuddi for a while now, so what can I say about the user experience? I have some positive things to say but there are some issues one has to take into account if one is considering purchasing one of these.

00:00I used to always just hand my laundry out onto the wash line to dry in the sun and wind.
00:06That's how most people have done it throughout the centuries.
00:08That's a trusty old way that has always worked.
00:12However, there might come situations in which you cannot do that.
00:16For me it usually comes during the rainy season every year.
00:20And what I used to do during that time is to just dry the laundry in the tumble dryer.
00:25However, if you've ever used a tumble dryer, you'll know that after drying your clothes with it,
00:31you clean the filter and you take out this whole handful of lint.
00:38And you're like, whoa, all that material came off of my clothing.
00:42And you realize if you do this a lot, your clothes are gonna get really thin and really weak.
00:47That's indeed what happened to my clothes.
00:49Some of the cheaper clothes tore after a while, just from everyday use.
00:54So that is when I started seeking an alternative.
00:57And I thought I found one in the form of this dry body.
01:01The dry body is a simple concept.
01:03It's basically like a bubble that then gets blown full of hot air.
01:09And of course you put your clothes in there and then it should dry your clothing.
01:14I've had it for some years now.
01:15So let me tell you about my experience.
01:19Now, of course, first what you do, this zips open, this old bubble.
01:25And yeah, unfortunately mine, one of mine's arms broke.
01:31This arm is supposed to be there, sort of like an umbrella almost.
01:35But the others are still good.
01:37So yeah, I'm afraid these little arms aren't that rugged and tough.
01:42But anyway, once you have your bubble open, let me just see if I can pick it up high enough.
01:50You see there, there's this heater that blows hot air into the bubble.
01:58So, and there's the switch.
02:00Unfortunately, they put the switch in there now, inside the bubble.
02:04So it's really difficult to work it.
02:07They could have just put it there underneath it or somewhere.
02:11But anyway, you're going to turn that.
02:14You hear now it's starting to blow hot air.
02:18It also has a timer there for three hours.
02:21But yeah, personally, I don't know why that is.
02:23Because this thing doesn't work that quick.
02:27You need to leave your clothes for at least six to eight hours, maybe longer.
02:31Anyway, let's just go through that quickly.
02:34Yeah, this little arm unfortunately is now a problem.
02:38Because these little plastic thingies that's supposed to hold this metal rod broke off.
02:45Anyway, let me demonstrate you the idea anyway.
02:48I do like the idea whether it works that well in practice, I'm afraid I cannot say.
02:55They advertise this thing as being able to dry 18 pieces of clothing at a time.
03:02I'm afraid that simply just is not so.
03:04And I'll show you.
03:05Here's one shirt.
03:06Let's hang it over there.
03:09And yeah, very important.
03:12I must add that the clothing mustn't touch each other.
03:15Because there where they touch, it's going to stay moist.
03:19It needs space for the hot air to circulate in between everything.
03:23So you don't want anything touching each other.
03:26That's one item.
03:28Two.
03:30You see already almost the machine is full.
03:33That's two.
03:34Let's do that.
03:35Three.
03:35You might as well forget about drying your jeans in this thing.
03:42Yeah, I might also say all the clothes must have gone through the spin cycle of your washing machine at least.
03:49You cannot just hang really wet things in here.
03:53If you hang really wet jeans in this thing, it simply will not dry it.
03:57It will take too long.
03:58It might take two days, I would say.
04:01Anyway, yeah, you see already there's no space.
04:03We could have hung this here.
04:04That's just four items so far.
04:08But uh, yeah.
04:09Alright, let's do five.
04:11And we might have hung one here.
04:14Well, let me just see if I put this together for a little bit.
04:20Six.
04:22Is it six?
04:23One, two, three, four, five.
04:25No, it's just five.
04:26Two, three, four, five.
04:28So far.
04:30And there's really not room for any more.
04:33We could cram stuff in there but then they're gonna touch each other
04:37and not get proper airflow around them.
04:39But I suppose we could put another one there.
04:43That's now six items, yeah.
04:46And then of course, yeah, your socks.
04:48Where shall we put them?
04:49Just like over here.
04:51Small things you can try to just like put wherever.
04:55But also you don't want them to touch stuff.
04:57Yeah, I would say this thing is now full.
05:00Then you zip up this sail or whatever.
05:04This cover.
05:08Alright, I was supposed to turn on the machine first.
05:10See, that's why I don't like where they put the switch.
05:14So let's just turn it on.
05:18It does have a three hour timer but you can turn the switch the other way around
05:22and then it should just stay on indefinitely until you switch it off.
05:27And now you'll see it sort of like expands a bit like a balloon.
05:31Because of the hot air that's getting pumped in there.
05:34It does have little holes here on the top.
05:37And yeah, now the clothes are supposed to be drying in there.
05:40And that's a concept of how it works really.
05:43Let me just turn it off quickly.
05:44So does it work in practice?
05:49Well, first of all let me just tell you the things I didn't like so much about it
05:55where it's not that effective.
05:57For one thing when you buy this, I think it's this sail that causes a really chemical smell.
06:03And all the clothes then smell of it.
06:06But as you use this unit over time, the smell just gets less and less every time
06:12until you don't smell it anymore.
06:15And the clothes don't smell anymore after that, thank goodness.
06:18But the problem with this concept is I think because the clothing doesn't see sunshine and wind,
06:25the bacteria start to thrive on them.
06:28Because this machine just simply takes too long to dry them.
06:31They stay wet or moist for far too long in this thing, before they're actually dry.
06:36As I said, it might take six to eight hours.
06:39And in that time the clothes start to, I don't want to say rot,
06:43but you know that smell that wet clothes start to get after a while.
06:47Yeah, I'm afraid the clothes do start to smell.
06:49Sometimes you wouldn't notice it and then you wear the clothes.
06:55And yeah, then you might get a whiff of something you don't like,
06:59of maybe clothes that didn't dry properly or took too long to dry.
07:03They felt dry, but yeah, they just took too long before they dried.
07:07But fortunately, I won't say that happens every time.
07:10That might happen if you, say for example, I would dry this shirt,
07:15this same exact shirt in this thing, for about five times or six times.
07:20Then it really starts to get noticeable, that smell of clothes that didn't dry properly.
07:27But yeah, what I would say then is just hang it outside on the wash line in the sunshine for a bit.
07:34So the sunshine can kill the bacteria.
07:36That's what I read.
07:37The smell is caused by bacteria.
07:40And if you just put it in the sunlight, the sunlight will kill the bacteria.
07:44And of course, the fresh air, the wind will freshen it out a bit.
07:48And then your clothes will be fine.
07:50So you cannot only ever use the dry body.
07:53You can use it a few times for the same clothing items.
07:57And then you must hang them outside for like the time you wash them after that.
08:02Just to get rid of any smells that might accumulate on them over time.
08:07Another thing, well, I don't know if it'll take an entire wash load.
08:11As you saw here, they take about, what was this, six items really.
08:16Some smaller items also.
08:17You can maybe put your underpants or panties or whatever.
08:21Hang them somewhere where you find a space where it's open.
08:24And it can get some hot air flow around them.
08:27But no, it's not 18 items like you might have seen.
08:31I saw it on the box when I bought it.
08:32It said 18 items of clothing.
08:35It must have been really small items.
08:37Like maybe just 18 women's panties or something.
08:42Maybe 18 socks.
08:43So, I don't know.
08:44The reviews online that I've read are from people that say they still use their conventional
08:51tumble dryers anyway.
08:53They only use their dry body on occasion.
08:55So, yeah, I don't know.
08:58It doesn't seem like an all-round solution to drying your clothes.
09:03Do I use it?
09:04Yes, I do use it.
09:05On rainy days when I cannot hang the clothes on the wash line outside.
09:09But, yeah, that is my preferred method of drying my clothes.
09:13Just plain hanging them outside onto the wash line.
09:16That still remains the best way to do it.
09:18And to make sure that the clothes dry properly and in good time.
09:23And without any smells afterwards.
09:26But on rainy days, yes, I do use this machine.
09:29So, it does come in handy on occasion.
09:32What else did people say?
09:33Or sometimes they say, yeah, your clothes are not going to need ironing if you dry it in this thing.
09:42Is that true?
09:42Well, I would say it will need some ironing if you want it really fancy.
09:48Basically, what I would say is the clothes will look like they look when you put them in.
09:53For example, let me see this.
09:56You see these pocket flaps, for example.
09:59If they are all crumpled up when the shirt is wet, when you put it in.
10:03It's going to dry like that and it will be all wrinkled and crumpled up when it's dry.
10:08So, yeah, while it's still wet and moist, you might just flatten it out nicely.
10:14See that it's all hanging nice and neat.
10:17And then it should dry less wrinkled than otherwise.
10:22But no, I wouldn't say that the clothes will not need ironing at all.
10:27It depends on how neat you want it.
10:29For everyday wear, especially if you're going to wear it under a jacket.
10:32Yeah, I suppose it should be okay.
10:34Just also make sure the collars, of course, are nice and flat when you're going to dry it in this thing.
10:40And then it should come out nice and flat.
10:42Otherwise, it's going to be all pointing up and crumpled up and wrinkled.
10:48And you don't want that.
10:49So, what are my final thoughts on it?
10:52Well, the price was far too high.
10:54I don't know if it's just where I bought it.
10:56I know some places sell these as some magnificent wonders as seen on TV stuff.
11:03That they then sell for about 10 times what it's really worth.
11:07Personally, I think this should just be sold as some ordinary daily item.
11:12Then they should make a lot more money by doing volume sales.
11:16Because as it is, I thought they were just much too expensive for the ordinary person to buy.
11:23I think they thought this was some kind of luxury item or whatever.
11:27And I disagree.
11:28I mean, yeah, look, it's cheaply made.
11:30Cheap plastic, cheap everything.
11:32There's barely any material here.
11:34The thing is hollow inside.
11:36So it looks big, but yeah, no.
11:38It's a cheap thing and it should be sold as such.
11:42I don't know how much they retail for where you are and what you think of the price.
11:47I thought it's much too expensive.
11:48But I thought, well, yeah, maybe I'll just pay it once and it can help me dry my clothes on rainy days.
11:55And that is indeed what it does, yeah.
11:57But no, it's not going to replace your wash line outside.
12:00Certainly not.
12:01And probably not your tumble dryer.
12:04Because probably your tumble dryer can handle a lot more clothes at a time.
12:09And it will dry it a lot faster.
12:11Maybe like a 90-minute cycle will dry a complete wash load.
12:15Well, this will probably take six hours if I, these actual clothes that I put in here.
12:20I'll probably just put them in overnight when I dry them for real.
12:24So they can dry for about eight hours.
12:27The manual actually says you mustn't work this machine more than six hours at a time.
12:32So, I mean, what do you do now?
12:35After six hours, if your clothes simply aren't dry yet, then you must use it longer.
12:40I don't know if it's that energy efficient because you're going to use it for so long.
12:44Because you must use it for that long to do the job properly.
12:49What else did I see people say in the reviews?
12:52Oh, some people actually said this thing is too big.
12:55Because it looks kind of big when it's like this.
12:57And yeah, if you're living in a very small space, it probably is big.
13:02But I mean, yeah, if you look inside, you cannot really make it any smaller.
13:08Then you're just going to dry even less items.
13:10So yeah, no, you cannot really make it any smaller.
13:13That's just not going to be practical.
13:15Okay then, that's as much as I can tell you about this device.
13:20It will solve some of your laundry drying problems,
13:23while unfortunately creating a few more if you only ever use this unit.
13:29But yeah, it does have its uses.
13:31All right then, please hit the like and subscribe button under this video.
13:35And I'll see you in the next one.
