00:00okay gentlemen you already know the rules let me remind you to keep it clean protect
00:05yourself at all times obey my commands at all times touch gloves good luck to both of you
00:09all right here we go this one's scheduled for 10 rounds in the middleweight division 160 pounds
00:27jahai tucker taking on lorenzo truck simpson christina poncher polly malignaggi and raul marquez
00:34here with you
00:35and right away like he shot out of a cannon jahai tucker takes center stage here in the middle of
00:44the ring yeah he played that he was trying to you know put bull simpson on the back foot right away
00:48what are you looking for tonight in this co-main event i know it's the one that you
00:54are most excited about polly i'll tell you what you look for tucker to try to be frustrating
00:57be just like he is right now you know trying to touch and and step out of range i look for simpson
01:02to not look for the one big punch if simpson's going to be looking for one big punch it's this
01:06is going to work against him simpson's going to have to go back to you know some of the boxing
01:10ability that he may have we got back with calvin ford for that reason and be smart because he's
01:15going to have to set up tucker he's not if he looks for one big shot tucker's going to be a very
01:18pesky opponent a couple nice right hands there to start for tucker i know one thing one thing that
01:23simpson did say probably he said you know he can't get angry so he knows that you know he's
01:28got to put his punches together not let tucker frustrate him you know when he when i heard him
01:32say i'm not going to get angry that means you know he's got he's just going to let his hands go
01:35step around there nice though from tucker as he touches and steps around simpson trying to do a
01:40couple of catch and shoot moves oh nice nicely out of a southpaw stance simpson yep right away you see
01:45simpson is a southpaw jahai tucker your orthodox fighter and i think it's been quite some time since tucker
01:50has fought a southpaw not since october of 2021 really the only one on his resume so he said
01:57yeah christina it's been some time and he gets tagged with the left hand there
01:59yeah both of these guys know how to fight yeah it's gonna it's gonna be very interesting to see
02:06how this fight evolves bit by bit straight hand by tucker yeah good counter as it's caught simpson
02:12reaching a little bit came over right hand over the top a little short uppercut by tucker as well
02:16as simpson goes to the body down to the body and slips under that shot for tucker and that's what
02:21i mean about tucker being pesky you see how he steps around he gets underneath he's he changes the
02:25angle but i love the way simpson is throwing that left hand to the body you know a lot of left handers
02:31yeah right on they're scared to throw that left hand to the body because you think you're gonna get
02:34hit poly but it always works you know it always works to put the fighter in different uh difficult
02:40situations and i think every time he paused with the jab talking about simpson and he adds that left hand
02:45to the body and jabs again it pushes uh tucker back now you can talk from experience on that as
02:50the uh exactly southpaw yeah and look he continues to do it uh he's doing a pretty good job in this round
02:56of making that distance close but then you see simpson i mean tucker coming back with some
03:03fast combinations not doing not really landing solid shots it's more i'll take simpson is the
03:09the one that's landed the harder blow so far
03:11the tucker again he's pesky and you see what he does he gets digs in those shots and touch it he
03:18takes he gets around a lot so simpson's gonna have to cut him off especially in the small rings keep
03:24him from stepping around a little bit maybe play a bit of a physical role when tucker tries those
03:28step around and just like that round one has come to an end and we've already seen more punches
03:38between these two in the first round than we've seen in our entire last but
03:42two good thinkers
03:47so
03:57so
03:59so
04:04so
04:08so
04:12You can see right away the boxing out key of both fighters.
04:41Jai Tucker looking to change levels on that lead hand jab as he shoots a straight right
04:51hand.
04:52You see him bring that jab back down to the body sometimes and then back up top to land
04:56the right.
04:57Because they were able to work out of there before.
05:06The ref was going to warn Simpson for holding the head and hitting it.
05:10Tucker just took it to his own hands.
05:14Again pesky Tucker, actually a little left hand there from Simpson though.
05:20I thought Jai Tucker looked really good in his last fight against Troy Williamson.
05:25He caused several knockdowns in that fight.
05:27He won an eight round unanimous decision but it was a dominant performance.
05:30He looked really sharp in that fight.
05:31I feel like those ten rounds helped him get prepared for this ten rounder here, which
05:35is only the second scheduled ten rounder of his career.
05:39I feel like Simpson should put something behind that left hand.
05:43Raul, what do you think?
05:44He's trying to put some sharp shots.
05:46Yeah, I agree.
05:47He's focusing too much on the left hand and now every time he throws it, Tucker knows
05:51it's coming.
05:52Yeah.
05:53So mask it with something else.
05:54Come back with a right hook then left hand or left hook to the body.
05:57Yeah, exactly.
05:58Then right hand on top then left hook back at the bottom and then jab jab again.
06:01This is how Tucker makes fights get away from you.
06:02Right.
06:03He's pesky and he touches and touches and touches.
06:05Constantly.
06:06Yeah, he's busy with his combinations.
06:08Good shot right there from Simpson down to the body.
06:10Maybe not as powerful but he's scoring those points.
06:12And that's a nice double hook there from Tucker.
06:13And that's why I was saying the one thing I want to see from Simpson is not looking for
06:16one shot at a time.
06:17I think that's going to be very important.
06:18Remember, we know Simpson struggles to match the weight.
06:21It's not an easy weight for him to make.
06:22You know, is he going to have the energy and the spring in his legs to, you know, carry a
06:26pace later in the fight?
06:29Jahai Tucker will continue that pace throughout a fight.
06:32Yeah.
06:33And that's why it's up to Simpson to slow it down.
06:35You've got to land punch.
06:36A good shot there on the inside from Simpson.
06:38Yeah, I do feel like Simpson is loading up a little bit too much with his shots.
06:42Good uppercuts though from Simpson.
06:44Jahai's got to be careful leaning over like that because those shots from Simpson are just
06:49grazing.
06:50They're just half an inch away.
06:52Yeah.
06:53Tucker came back with a right hand there.
06:54But yeah, he helped his ground a little bit more than you heard.
06:56See, that's the sidesteps that I like that Tucker does.
06:58And that's the kind of, you know, the angles like that, that's what's going to give a guy
07:02like Simpson problems.
07:03You know, being lefty and, you know, you're there, you're not there.
07:08Nobody likes that, Tali.
07:09Guys that move in and out like that.
07:11Especially a pressure guy that's going to be in front of you.
07:13He wants to keep you there.
07:15Mm-hmm.
07:1620 seconds here in round two.
07:24Now we talk about the body shots of Simpson are going to be important, but I think the
07:27body shots of Tucker, or the combination there by Tucker, I think they're also going to be
07:30important because again, if Simpson struggled to make weight, those body shots could drain
07:34him as well.
07:35Good shot there by Simpson.
07:37Nice.
07:38Yeah, left hand on the end of that combination there, but Tucker pressed forward a lot in
07:42that round.
07:43All right, too.
07:44Tucker won that round, Pauly.
07:45I thought so, too.
07:46Yeah, he's, again, he's just, he's countering the pace a little bit.
07:48Activity.
07:49Activity.
07:50Three, four, five shots.
07:51It's not that Simpson's getting ready.
07:52He's just letting himself get out hustled.
07:54Right.
07:55See, that was a good body shot by Simpson in that replay.
07:58But that was it, but then Tucker comes back with, well, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm,
08:03That's a good replay there for Simpson.
08:04I was waiting for Tucker to come back with three, four bench combinations.
08:06It's there.
08:07It was there.
08:08I mean, I saw it.
08:09Again, another look at Calvin Ford, who also trains Javante Tank Davis, and Davis and
08:14Lorenzo Truck Simpson do have a close relationship, and he said, you know, he even actually trained
08:19Truck when he was a kid, first coming to the gym, and, you know.
08:24Ford's, Ford's gym reminds me of that old Barry Hunter gym.
08:27Oh, uptown are you talking about?
08:28Right.
08:29It's close, right?
08:30Geographically, won the DC, won the Baltimore.
08:31It is.
08:32Yes.
08:33Because, you know, I remember when Barry had a generation of really good fighters that
08:34came up, and Ford has sort of the same thing going on right now, a generation of
08:38young kids that he trained, and, and they're all clearly coming into their own.
08:41Well, then they see the success that guys like Tank have had.
08:44Yeah.
08:45And attention that guys like, you know, Truck have had.
08:47And you've got a ton of kids in that gym inspired in that area.
08:50And that's exactly what that area of Baltimore needs, you know.
08:52And even particularly the kids from West Baltimore that are looking at guys like Truck
08:56and seeing them on ESPN Plus tonight, like, let me get out of the streets and get into the gym.
08:59Yeah.
09:00And that's what Calvin Ford has done for these guys.
09:01That's the example you give.
09:02Good body shot there from.
09:03And then right, right back.
09:04But right back is Tucker.
09:06That's why Simpson can't really take pictures and appreciate his own work.
09:09Oh, that's.
09:10They're left hand, but you see what he does.
09:11He goes back expecting the return from Tucker.
09:13Right.
09:14He earmuffs right away after landing one shot.
09:16And every time he lands that one-shot Simpson, you know, Tucker comes back with three, four,
09:19five shots.
09:20And Tucker's, and Simpson's accepting it because what did he do when he threw that left hand?
09:24He brought earmuffs back instead of looking to follow up.
09:27Tucker's still got to be careful, you know, when he keeps that chin up in the air.
09:30You know, he got caught there with the left hand, so he's got to tuck that chin in.
09:33And there's no reason for him to get caught with that shot, Paulie.
09:38Again, that step around Tucker, it does it so well.
09:41You see a little faint on the inside as well, mid combination.
09:44Yeah, those little subtle movements to the right, to the left, angling.
09:47That really messes up a guy like Simpson, you know.
09:50It's good work right here from Jahai Tucker in round three.
09:54Nice right uppercut though, shot right back from Simpson, then down to the body.
09:58Back on the offense comes Tucker.
10:01Looping right hand misses as they clinch.
10:10But it's true, it's the activity and work rate of Tucker versus the shot for shot strength of Truck Simpson.
10:17Yeah, and Simpson's punching power is not doing the job to be throwing one shot at a time.
10:22He's got to put the guy like that.
10:23You see there, he followed up.
10:24Tucker didn't expect to follow up with the hook, but...
10:27I mean, it's not like Tucker's getting his respect, you know.
10:29He's still throwing punches at it.
10:31Jahai stood right there and took all these shots and fired back.
10:34Yeah, all these little shots are not hard enough to get that respect.
10:36Yeah, you're right.
10:37And that's what I was saying.
10:38You can't sit there taking pictures after you throw a punch.
10:40You can't pose as Tucker because Tucker will fire right back.
10:42He likes to admire his work.
10:43Yeah, he's admiring his work too much.
10:45Instead, Tucker...
10:46The combination punching, man.
10:47The combination punching of Tucker, that's...
10:49You see what Tucker does.
10:50He smothers you.
10:51If he's not gonna step around, he smothers you.
10:52He takes away the response from you.
10:53Simpson doesn't take away the response from Tucker.
10:55He allows Tucker to fire right back.
10:58He stays in range by taking that...
11:00Sort of doing that pose.
11:01Digging to the body now with consecutive right hands is Tucker
11:04and then right back comes Truck with some work up top.
11:09Down to the body for Tucker with the...
11:11Excuse me, Truck.
11:12You know we're gonna do that, Tuck and Trucker all night.
11:14That's giving me...
11:15Yeah.
11:16That's giving me a lot of...
11:17You gotta call him Simpson.
11:18You're right, Simpson and...
11:19And Tucker.
11:20Yes.
11:21Yeah, that's why I'm staying away from Trucker.
11:22I'm just saying Simpson.
11:23Because otherwise, it gets too close for comfort, right?
11:26Oh, they look better from Simpson.
11:29Back to the body.
11:30Body work from Tucker has been a point of emphasis tonight for sure.
11:34Yeah, and I think that's important with the...
11:37Especially with him coming down in weight for Simpson.
11:39Rounds are going quick.
11:41Yeah, but there's action like that.
11:45I mean, the rounds do go quick.
11:46The pace of the fight.
11:47I mean, they're...
11:48You're right.
11:49They're flowing.
11:50They're flowing.
11:51Yeah, that's a good left hand there by Simpson.
11:52You see the response from Tucker.
11:53And again, another response from Tucker there.
11:54And you see Simpson kind of just waiting on the responses.
11:56When Simpson decides to punch, he...
11:59I like his punch selection.
12:00I like how he throws his punches.
12:02But it's just...
12:03It's...
12:04He's being outworked in spots.
12:06Because Tucker also has a big shot selection.
12:07Just slower, Polly.
12:08His combination punching is a lot slower.
12:10Yeah, and it's not as many numbers.
12:11And Tucker is putting it together faster, sharper, more explosive.
12:15He's just...
12:16He's busier.
12:17And Tucker is aware of the response.
12:18So Tucker will either step in and smother after he throws punches or he'll step around.
12:22So Tucker looks to laying your punches and then take away your response opportunities.
12:26While Simpson doesn't...
12:27Isn't really as careful to take away the response opportunities of Tucker after he throws his punches.
12:31And just like he did in the first round, charging out of the corner.
12:45Jahai Tucker here to start round four.
12:47Yeah, Tucker got his game face on, man.
12:49He's focused on...
12:50No respect.
12:51I mean, look, when a guy comes out like that, Polly, like, I mean, that's showing him no respect.
12:55I mean, what do you got?
12:57I mean, show me more.
12:59And when you're backing up a guy named Truck, you don't get him to get on his forward gear,
13:03you know, it's gonna make him that much more ineffective.
13:06Truck Simpson has to sort of get on that front foot and start backing Tucker up himself and make him uncomfortable.
13:11Nice right hand landed right there from Simpson.
13:15But again, the response of Tucker is always in numbers.
13:26Just took a little bit of a shower up top of these guys, right?
13:28Knocked the sweat on us.
13:32Down to the body from both sides.
13:34Oh, beautiful body shots.
13:36That works.
13:37That works for me.
13:38Go up the middle now.
13:40And Simpson with a chance to catch and shoot there.
13:42He should have really took that opportunity.
13:43Yeah, Simpson is the guy that's supposed to be doing more body shots, you know.
13:46I mean, look at Tucker's activity.
13:48There's a catch and shoot.
13:49But you see what Tucker does.
13:51He thinks so well.
13:52But I don't think he's got that power that he thinks he has, Polly.
13:55At least he's not.
13:56Even though he's a bigger guy, you know.
13:57But he doesn't, I mean, he's not, he's effective when he throws those shots.
14:01But, I mean, Tucker keeps coming.
14:03Jahai just keeps coming.
14:04Jahai just keeps coming and punches and punches.
14:06Jahai continues to look to make a statement both mentally and physically with the hustle tactic.
14:11Yeah.
14:12Taking over both ways, you're right.
14:13It's also a mental statement, too, when you see a guy constantly trying to get in your face.
14:16Yes.
14:17That's got to get in Simpson's head, man.
14:19I mean, you're, he's trying to land some power shots, trying to show him that he's stronger.
14:23He's bringing, but look at Jahai, man.
14:25He's just busy.
14:26He's busy and nonstop.
14:28Angling from different angles.
14:30Good body work right there from Simpson.
14:32Yeah, the body, yes.
14:33Right back to it again with the left hand from the southpaw.
14:36Right back to the body now comes Tucker with the left.
14:39Ooh, just missed with that left uppercut there, Polly.
14:43Yeah, and now he's following up, and this is what you want to see from Simpson.
14:46Even if those shots didn't all land, you want to see that, because Tucker will respond as soon as he's done punching.
14:51What's the answer here, Jeff?
14:52I know Simpson says no, but the activity.
14:53What's the answer here, Joel?
14:54What's the answer here, Joel?
14:55You know, as soon as Tucker, as soon as Simpson's done punching, Tucker's punching right away.
15:00Comes back with 10 punches, yes.
15:01So what's the answer for Simpson?
15:02Does he smother?
15:03Does he step out of range?
15:04I think you at least have to take away range from Tucker.
15:06If he's done punching and you give Tucker range, he's going to punch back right away.
15:10Well, I think for Simpson to step out of range, it's not step, take it two, three steps back, turn, just circling.
15:17Step around, yeah, the way Tucker.
15:18And then right away, three, four, and keep circling.
15:20Or body him, right?
15:21Yeah, body him.
15:22Or, you know, get a little bit rough.
15:23You know, pull his head down.
15:24Yeah.
15:25Put his head down.
15:26Try to frustrate him.
15:27Try to do something different that's going to disrupt Tucker's rhythm, because he's nonstop.
15:32He's not doing anything.
15:33Ooh, he walked into a right hand, though, right there from Simpson.
15:40Nice counter there from Simpson on the right hand.
15:43That's pretty fascinating.
15:44Shot by Simpson.
15:45We need more of that.
15:46He needs more of that.
15:47I'm not fighting for him, guys.
15:49I have to say that he needs more of that.
15:50Yeah, no, I agree.
15:51And he ended that round strong.
15:52He had a few of his best punches of the round at the end of that round there.
15:55As you take a look back at this replay, and he's got some, Simpson's tight shots are kind of hard to see, but he's landed some flush shots on the inside.
16:06He just keeps them real tight.
16:07You see how pesky Tucker is, though.
16:09You see the way he darts out, and he changes speed in the way he shifts his body around.
16:14He'll be in front of you, and then he'll just throw that left shoulder to the side and just completely swing his body all around.
16:20And then he'll step into you, and then he'll just put a bunch of punches together.
16:24Sometimes they're with weight on them.
16:25Sometimes they're just in numbers where it just discombobulates your hand positioning.
16:28Calvin wants him.
16:29You can see Calvin Ford.
16:30What do you think he's telling him?
16:31You can see it.
16:32You can see the tone.
16:33I mean, we can't hear what he's saying, but you see the tone.
16:34He obviously is looking for some emergency on the part of Simpson.
16:35I see that.
16:36Yeah.
16:37Yeah, like he eats.
16:38I think he...
16:39Well, what would you be telling him?
16:40Get busier.
16:41Get busier.
16:42Don't load up.
16:43Keep turning them in circles and get busier.
16:44Push them back.
16:45You are the stronger guy.
16:46But punches and bunches.
16:47I think he's trying to knock...
16:48Maybe he's trying to knock them out.
16:49You know, he's trying too much on loading up and his shots, you know?
16:53Round 5.
16:54I see one shot single shots right there.
16:55Down to the body with the right hand for Tucker.
16:56And then Tucker comes out with three or four shots, two shots.
17:10The body.
17:11Got an uppercut there from Simpson.
17:12Right back to the body.
17:15He slips under that shot and then comes up top for Tucker.
17:19I mean, excuse me.
17:20Yes, for Tucker.
17:21Yep, Tucker, you're right.
17:26That's hard because knowing him, I call him Truck.
17:29I don't call him Renzo or say Simpson.
17:34Simpson's trying to make more of an effort.
17:35He's trying to back Tucker up this round.
17:37But you see, it's not easy because Tucker is always looking to respond.
17:42Even that nice, short, little straight left hand that he got in on the inside.
17:45There from Simpson.
17:48You see, again, the shiftiness of Tucker.
17:50You see, he changes levels.
17:51He changes steps.
17:52He changes angles.
17:54It's not just a move or two.
17:56He's changing different things.
17:57Levels, range.
17:58Every time is different.
17:59Every time is different.
18:00Look, there's that little circle there.
18:02Throwing down the left shoulder.
18:02I mean, he's there, then he's not.
18:04That messes up a guy like Simpson a lot.
18:09And you make that move on a couple.
18:10He's got to move with him.
18:11He's got to move with him.
18:11When Tucker does that turn, Pauly,
18:14Simpson's got to move with him, you know,
18:16but he's not doing that.
18:18Yeah.
18:19His footwork is a little bit too slow.
18:21It's the speed at which Tucker makes it.
18:22Yes.
18:25Tucker putting in some work here in the corner.
18:28Uh-oh.
18:29How about that back shot, guys?
18:31When you say he's punching from different angles?
18:33But, again, that's the psychological, that's the mental break.
18:37Mental, yeah.
18:37He's trying to let you know.
18:38Look what I just did.
18:39I hit you with a back shot.
18:40And not just that.
18:40I don't stop punching.
18:41I'm mentally in your face.
18:42Mentally and physically.
18:43Yes.
18:43You know, and so it kind of, you know, plays on the opponent.
18:47That's what Tucker, Tucker's got his game face on tonight, guys.
18:49I mean, he's fighting from a physical perspective and a mental perspective here fully.
18:53Definitely taking over.
18:55He's halfway through the fight, huh?
18:59I mean, yeah, he's, I think he's going to pick it up even more in the second half of the fight.
19:05Tucker is.
19:06Good combination there for Simpson.
19:09Simpson will land the occasional good punch, but he's just not having enough effect on Tucker.
19:11Just not enough.
19:13And that right hand just missed as you get five more in return from Tucker every time.
19:18Yes.
19:23Pot shot him now, having fun.
19:27Now he's in a rhythm now.
19:29I'm telling you, he's in that rhythm.
19:30Like, he's not stopping now.
19:32Like, he's really loose in there.
19:34Loosey-goosey, you know, moving.
19:36Pot shot him.
19:37Watch him come back right now.
19:39He's setting it up right now.
19:40Watch.
19:40Yeah, at least Simpson understood that and tried to take where it's, start smothering him instead of allowing giving Tucker the range.
19:46But either way, Tucker finds the range.
19:48There we go.
19:48Tucker teeing off now.
19:50A couple uppercuts landed clean, too, on the left.
19:52As Simpson tries to shake it off, but we know what that usually means.
19:55Frustration.
19:56Frustration.
19:57I don't think he's getting hurt, but he's definitely frustrated.
19:59He's lost in there.
20:00Yeah.
20:00He's getting confused.
20:01Oh!
20:02That's the head coming up.
20:03Yes!
20:05Popping that up.
20:05And he talked about it.
20:07He talked about it.
20:08He said he's got to let his hands go.
20:10Tucker backs up with his chin up in the air, and he caught him.
20:13So, Tucker's got to be careful.
20:15Like, I mean, he's winning the fight.
20:17Yeah.
20:17Probably little things like that.
20:18You back up.
20:19Is that what they're going to show here?
20:20No.
20:20This is the body shot there.
20:22This is where Tucker wouldn't stop.
20:23He's doing all the work.
20:24He's doing all the work.
20:24This is the back punch where the referee steps in.
20:26Oh, the back punch.
20:27I kind of like that.
20:28Look at that.
20:28Yeah.
20:28See?
20:30Wait.
20:30Back punch and then swung fucking around, bro.
20:33I like that.
20:33This is the end of the round here.
20:35I think you're going to see Tucker throwing punches and maybe get back up.
20:38No, you didn't show it there.
20:40Balvin Ford sweating so much he took his hat off.
20:42And, you know, Simpsons got him animated in the corner.
20:46But it's been at the end of the last two rounds, actually, that Simpson has had some success.
20:50Right at the end of the round, that gave you half.
20:52We just had a little bit more time.
20:54That's more of what you want to see.
20:55He knew he was going to catch Jahai with his chin up in the air.
20:58Right.
20:58At some point.
20:59We've seen that on tape ourselves.
21:00But he hasn't been able to put it together in the beginning or the middle of a round.
21:05And let's see if he can capitalize on that and get a shift in momentum as we shift to the second half of this fight.
21:21It's a nice back and forth work on the inside.
21:24And really, the inside is all you have to work with with the size of this ring here tonight.
21:28It definitely favors the fighters that have been more active at that close or even mid-range.
21:32We'll get showered, too, at times, you know, by blood and sweat.
21:35You're doing a good job of blocking the—
21:37I'm trying.
21:38You and Christina, but you're not blocking me, man.
21:40I mean, you got your umbrella there.
21:43You're good.
21:44I got my umbrella.
21:45We need an umbrella.
21:47That body shot and Tucker's spitting out saliva over there.
21:52Let's add that to the mix here.
21:58You know, Tucker didn't get busy after that body shot, I tell you, man.
22:01Maybe he felt it after Simpson landed.
22:04Now, oh, nice.
22:05Oh, beautiful uppercut.
22:06You saw that?
22:06Yeah.
22:07Just slapped his head back.
22:08And you see what he did?
22:08Quick and fat.
22:09Straight right hand and a little uppercut.
22:10Yes.
22:11Every time, every time, man.
22:23Good reactions from Tucker.
22:24Tattooing him, like, I mean.
22:27Again, not accepting the clinchers.
22:28Just right when you see Simpson's got something going, Tucker comes back with three, four shots,
22:33like, quick, quick in this process.
22:35And we would have thought that the smaller ring would have given the advantage of Simpson
22:39tonight, but it's just Tucker has figured out a way to make it work for him.
22:44But he knows how to fight well in the inside, mid-range, long-range.
22:47Look at that.
22:48I mean.
22:49But you're right.
22:50If it was a bigger ring, it would even be better for Tucker because he would have more
22:54room to really circle around and move all over the place.
22:58But this is doing it for him.
23:00You know, you don't need that big ring.
23:01And then you'll see an occasional, like, solid body shot, like Simpson landed there
23:07when you had Tucker up against the ropes.
23:10But not enough of that to keep up with the activity and work rate of Tucker.
23:14No, not enough to carry the rounds.
23:17Sometimes it only does take one.
23:18It does.
23:19But the way Tucker's reacted when getting hit cleanly tonight, I'm not sure Simpson has
23:23that punching power.
23:24And the more these rounds go this way, the more Simpson's energy might wear down.
23:29So the punching power on his punches diminishes even more.
23:31The way that Tucker's, you know, just standing there willing to have his hands down at his
23:37sides, which we've seen him do time and time again, or slip under these shots and stay
23:41right there in the pocket, does tell you something about what he's feeling in return from Simpson.
23:45Yeah.
23:45Yeah, he's just confident.
23:46Yeah, he's not getting hurt.
23:47Tucker's standing in front of him with his hands down.
23:49That's what I'm saying.
23:50He's confident.
23:51What Tucker's doing is kind of like, reminds me of a little Perneau-Whitaker stuff.
23:55You know what I mean?
23:55He's just comfortable.
23:57He's rolling with the punches, making a miss.
24:00Look at that.
24:00He's having a good time.
24:01Oh, yeah.
24:02He's walking to one there.
24:02Chin up in the air.
24:03Again, at the end of the round.
24:04Chin up in the air a little bit.
24:05Yeah, you see what Simpson followed him to the corner saying, get out of here.
24:18Look at the way he's controlling the ring.
24:20Good body shots again there by Simpson.
24:23Good work.
24:25Turning him around.
24:26Good jab there by Simpson.
24:28That was so good.
24:29But then again, Tucker comes right back.
24:31Responses are so sharp and so quickly.
24:33Doubling, tripling the right elbow right there.
24:38Very loose there.
24:39Very loose.
24:39The shift is really, really makes it all that much more effective.
24:43He's high.
24:43He's low.
24:44Yep.
24:44But don't get up too high with his chin.
24:47Yeah.
24:48The thing is, you got to guess, too, because he goes in so many directions.
24:50When he goes up high, you got to make sure you guess it.
24:52That's also why he gets away with going up high so many times.
24:55Because he goes in so many different directions that you got to anticipate him going up high.
24:59But there might be that one time that somebody times him right, you know?
25:02Exactly.
25:02You got the two managers.
25:04McCallum against Donald Curry, right?
25:06The two managers of the fighters going toe-to-toe over here.
25:09Or promoters.
25:10Antonio Leonard has made his way ringside.
25:12And Vito Manecki Sr., who manages Truck Simpson, you know, both yelling at their fighters.
25:17Their charge, right?
25:18To pick it up.
25:20Always the show outside of the ring, too.
25:22With boxing.
25:23With boxing, as you have Truck Simpson might be in a deep hole here.
25:29Guys on the scorecards, would you agree?
25:31Yeah.
25:31Oh, absolutely, yeah.
25:32I probably just gave him one round.
25:35But I know Pauly didn't give him that round, so Pauly does have...
25:38Yeah, shut up.
25:39Shut up, yeah.
25:46I think it's out downhill from here for Simpson, guys.
25:49I mean...
25:50That's a nice left hand on an angle there.
25:57You know, guys, Simpson can't fight.
25:59He's just being out-hustled, you know?
26:00Right.
26:01And he has a loss against Vladimir Hernandez, who also is a guy who tends to out-hustle opponents
26:05as well.
26:06That's tough.
26:06Yep.
26:06So, you know, and has a good chance on a hustler's opponent.
26:09So that's sort of his kryptonite, you know?
26:10The hustle kind of style.
26:11But how about in a round like this, where actually the work rate for Jahai has dropped
26:14significantly for Tucker.
26:16He's got a whole minute left to work.
26:17But you gotta go get him, because Tucker understands his range.
26:20You gotta go get him, and that's not easy, either, because Tucker's feet are still quick.
26:24The thing is, you know, if Tucker's gonna take the round off and not be as busy, he has
26:28the cognizance of knowing, okay, if I'm not gonna be...
26:29There is a good shot from Simpson.
26:31If I'm not gonna be as busy, I'm gonna stay at middle to long range, so Simpson has to
26:34come get me if he wants it.
26:37And then when he's ready to work, he's ready to go at him.
26:40Tucker has a good chin, guys.
26:41I mean, he's taking some shots every now and then from Simpson that any guy, you know, probably
26:47would have gotten hurt, but he's very durable, man.
26:49And at the same time, yeah, his activity.
26:50We saw that in the Shekneesh-Shavili fight back in 2023.
26:54Look at him.
26:55Left hand connected there for Tucker.
26:58I don't know if these umbrellas are working, guys.
27:00But it looked like in that first round of that fight, he was out on his feet.
27:02Never went down.
27:07So, yeah, Tucker definitely's got a chin.
27:09Hook up top for Simpson.
27:23Pace has slowed down for Tucker just a bit here in round seven.
27:27Here's a sharp left hand from Simpson, but no follow-up.
27:30Not just, yeah, not enough.
27:31No follow-up.
27:32His feet aren't also quick enough to go track down Tucker either, and that's the problem.
27:36Tucker has quick hands, but also quick feet.
27:38It's shot there by Simpson.
27:39He lands the occasional shot, but it doesn't have enough effect on Tucker.
27:42Yeah, it's that left hand that gets in.
27:45That's a great weapon for Simpson, who wants to fight right now off the ropes.
27:49He gets caught with the left hand from Tucker.
27:57I think he...
28:20Sharp uppercut.
28:21Yeah, he rocked them, he rocked them there.
28:22It seems like it, right?
28:24But look, he caught them with a nice uppercut,
28:25but then it was Tucker chasing them out.
28:28And that was a shot up against the ropes,
28:29and Simpson picked up on the ropes.
28:31He got up high this time against the ropes,
28:33and it was Tucker making him pay for coming up high.
28:37I noticed, too, you know, Chuck Simpson is a southpaw.
28:40He trains in Calvin Ford's gym.
28:42It's in the Jermont Davis camp.
28:43You know, Davis isn't the busiest guy himself,
28:45but he has the punching power that when he lands it,
28:47you know, it typically electrifies the opponent
28:49and it electrocutes the opponent and takes him out.
28:52I'm not sure that Simpson...
28:54Has that kind of power.
28:54He has that kind of power.
28:55He has that kind of skill.
28:56You can see times, and he punches in between guys.
28:59But if you don't have that kind of punching power,
29:01I'm not sure that you can afford not to be a...
29:04You can be not as busy as Tank tends to not be
29:07during the fights, because Tank knows,
29:09you know, if he lands that sharp shot,
29:11the fight could be over, and typically it is.
29:13With Truck Simpson, you've got to win the rounds.
29:15Yeah, that's a good point.
29:16I mean, how many times have we seen Tank?
29:18Like, when is he going to get started?
29:19Or he's down on the cards at the same time, and then bam.
29:20By the time he starts, it's over.
29:21Boom.
29:22Exactly.
29:22Simpson seems to have a similar mindset and style
29:24to his boxing.
29:26Simpson came out a lot busier in this round.
29:28I mean, he's got to.
29:30I mean, he ain't got no choice.
29:31I mean, I think Calvin Ford told him,
29:32you got to get busy, you're down.
29:34That's the thing now.
29:35Is fighting a hustle fight going to beat Jahi Tucker?
29:37Are you going to fight his fight?
29:38I mean, if you were going to make adjustments,
29:40it had to be early.
29:41But I don't know if he's fighting the hustle fight
29:43is going to beat Jahi Tucker,
29:44because that's Jahi Tucker's fight,
29:45is the hustle fight.
29:47I mean, you're right.
29:48Jahi Tucker's not a guy that's going to run
29:50and use the whole ring.
29:52He's willing to trade, too.
29:54No, he'll get out.
29:55And he gets hit.
29:55He'll get out.
29:56He'll step in.
29:56He gets hit, because right back.
29:57I like it.
29:58But he's very physical inside, too.
29:59Yes.
30:00He seems to try to create some space for the body shots.
30:02Daly letting him work there for a minute
30:04on the inside.
30:05Two minutes left here in round eight.
30:07Step over.
30:12Step over again.
30:14Step over right there.
30:15Body work again.
30:17He's been consistent with that
30:18since the opening round, has Jahi Tucker.
30:21You see how Tucker lays all over you.
30:23He makes it ugly on the inside, too.
30:26He's got a good hustle style.
30:28It's not always pretty,
30:29but he knows how to put the punches together nice.
30:31Actually, it looks very awkward and ugly,
30:33but it works for him.
30:35Kind of said that in the lead-up to the fight.
30:36I said, he doesn't always make it look pretty.
30:38Yeah.
30:38He mauls you,
30:39but then he also hustles you at the same time.
30:42Yep.
30:45Makes you work.
30:48And I tell you, I've seen...
30:49And his reflexes are good, too, on his defense.
30:51Like, he'll stay right in there
30:52and just slip under your shot
30:53or just move slightly his head,
30:54just enough out of range
30:55to not get caught flush.
30:59Nice right hand.
30:59He walked Simpson.
31:00He said, I right hand.
31:01Sure did.
31:05Changing levels again.
31:06He gave him that movement slippery.
31:08He's real slippery, Pauly.
31:09Oh, yeah.
31:09Very.
31:11I mean, Truck shot four of those jabs
31:13and then let the left hand go,
31:14and the left hand did connect.
31:16But not solid.
31:17I mean, it was still...
31:18Not enough.
31:18Yeah.
31:22Oh!
31:24It's quick, fast.
31:25I mean, he's...
31:26Now you're at the point, too,
31:27where can Simpson even try to hustle
31:29because the struggle to make weight
31:31now, you know,
31:32you've been outworked.
31:33Now he's cooked.
31:34Yeah, you've been cooked.
31:35Yeah, exactly.
31:35I'll tell you what, they're both are in great shape, I mean, especially Tucker, man, he
31:53throws a lot of punches, and his foot worse, and yeah.
31:59Down to the body once again for Tucker, then back up top, and an uppercut as he sends
32:04Simpson back to the corner.
32:34Coming up next, our main event, Vito Milnicki Jr. taking on Camille Gardzelik, middleweight
32:49class scheduled for 10 rounds.
32:51Vito Milnicki, fifth fight here at the Prudential Center, but a stiff test in the Polish fighter,
33:04who is undefeated.
33:05The penultimate round here, round nine, and at this point, I think it's fair to say
33:14that the truck needs to step on the gas right about now and really try to get a knockout.
33:20Oh, yeah, he's got to go for broke, man, he's got to, he's got to, he's got one of those
33:25big, you know, Texas four-wheelers, you know, the big, that just run you over.
33:32But it looks like Tucker's the one that's doing the work, guys.
33:35Yeah.
33:38All right, let's go, let's go.
33:39Well, at least he's trying to be first a little bit more here and throw in combination.
33:58None of them have really landed quite flush on Tucker in round nine, but see him keep the
34:03job, he's getting to work first.
34:04Good work with the left hand there for Simpson, and then right back comes Tucker to the body,
34:17head in his chest.
34:21Simpson has thrown some really good body shots, but it really didn't do much to Tucker.
34:27I mean, look at his conditioning, it's amazing.
34:30And also, Tucker responds right away.
34:32Yeah, he comes right back with a lot more shots.
34:36Like that.
34:38And Tucker's been supremely confident this whole fight promotion at the press conference,
34:43at the weigh-in.
34:45You know, he came in here talking and acting like he was the more elite, more superior fighter,
34:50and it's not really in Simpson's demeanor to really talk a lot and engage in that back
34:54and forth.
34:54And that's why he got angry.
34:56He got angry when Tucker had that live stream going on during the press conference.
35:00Yep.
35:01But so far tonight, Tucker has backed up everything that he said.
35:06He's come in here and fight and brought the fight to Lorenzo Truck Simpson.
35:11He sure did.
35:13Simpson's still trying.
35:14It's not for lack of trying.
35:15Double jab left hand as he backs Tucker up to the corner, and Tucker says, okay, I'll fight
35:20you right there out of the corner.
35:22Yeah, Tucker don't mind doing that.
35:23That's what I like about him.
35:24He's willing to trade.
35:29I mean, he's a well-rounded fighter, Pauly.
35:31I like, you know, he's there to fight.
35:33I like that.
35:33He's a difficult guy to deal with.
35:34And then the angles he gives you, he moves around.
35:36He baits you in.
35:38Beautiful.
35:39This is not an easy guy to deal with.
35:40I'll tell you.
35:40No.
35:42And like I said, I've seen the one guy that beat him, Flaz, who's also a very good fighter.
35:46Some of the best welterweights are not even champions.
35:48And the welterweight champions are, sometimes they leave a little bit to be desired.
35:55Oh, junior middleweight, that's right.
35:57Tucker, what, moved up to junior middleweight now.
35:58Right.
35:59Man, I was getting excited for Tucker.
36:02No, but you were right, because he turned pro.
36:03He was like his whole amateur career as welter.
36:04He turned pro as a welter.
36:05And the loss to Floss was at welter.
36:07So, yeah.
36:08So, I was thinking about that.
36:18So, yeah.
36:48A preference that he has.
36:53Yeah.
36:55And he hasn't really fought like he's needed it.
36:57He's continued to keep up a solid pace.
37:00The way he fought the first round, I mean, the ninth round, I think he threw even more punches than he did in the first round.
37:07We don't have the benefit tonight of coffee box numbers.
37:09But, you know, if you thought, how can he keep this pace up or is he going to be able to?
37:14He answered those questions tonight as we are in the tenth and final round.
37:18Down to the body for Tucker.
37:38Tucker, then right back for Simpson with the right hand.
37:43Oh, nice short uppercut on the inside.
37:49That was a nice counter as Simpson was trying to get to the body.
37:52Tucker came up with a counter with the uppercut nicely.
37:54That's where you see, like, Tucker, he's thinking.
37:59And Simpson would just really throw and body starts to throw.
38:02It's fluid.
38:02Yeah.
38:03And then Tucker just set him up.
38:05You know, he was waiting for that uppercut.
38:07And he's standing in front of him with his hands in his pockets nearly.
38:14Comes back.
38:14Look at that confidence.
38:15Look at that confidence.
38:16Put it right back.
38:17Teeing off on Simpson now.
38:19And for Simpson, I mean, I do give him credit for coming down to 160 and taking a fight
38:36and a place where he hasn't fought at since 2022, maybe learning a lesson a bit the hard
38:42way about where he wants to be because he's.
38:45Yeah, it's true, too.
38:47Yeah, the weight also affects Simpson's energy.
38:50But I tell you what, Tucker is going to be a tricky middleweight, too.
38:53Right?
38:53If Tucker stays at middleweight.
38:54Yep.
38:54This is tricky because the middleweight's, it's not that deep a middleweight, right?
38:59No, and I think he's looked a lot, the last couple fights that he's been there against
39:02Caliso Madera and then against Troy Williamson, which I think last fight was a great performance
39:06for him.
39:06And he's really settled into that weight class very nicely.
39:08And you can see he's comfortable here.
39:10I mean, physically, he's actually pushed Simpson back a lot in those clinches and been a bully
39:14in those clinches.
39:15I definitely thought Simpson was going to come in here, the much bigger fighter tonight, maybe
39:19bully Tucker around a bit, maybe hurt him to the body.
39:22Yeah.
39:24We got 40 seconds left.
39:26Like I said, he's pesky.
39:27He knows how to make it ugly and physical on the inside.
39:30He knows how to step around.
39:31He knows how to create punching angles from weird, the weird steps he makes, you know,
39:35where you would usually, fighters wouldn't know how to create those punch angles from
39:37those weird steps.
39:38He creates punching angles from everything he does.
39:40So he's not only frustrating you physically with the amount of punches, but he's frustrating
39:43you mentally.
39:44Yeah.
39:44Yep.
39:45Exactly.
39:45And he's been doing that all night.
39:51Still going, guys.
39:52Look what he does.
39:53He throws that.
39:53Beautiful.
39:53He throws that one, two, three combination, then he steps in and physically just, you
39:57know, makes it ugly.
39:57He's a little bit so sneaky with it, too.
39:59Yeah.
40:00Let's go, Zong!
40:01Let's go!
40:01Let's go!
40:03The fight has come to an end, and a beautiful performance tonight.
40:06I like that.
40:08From Jahai Tucker as they hug it out and give each other respect.
40:10Yeah, they hug it out.
40:10I love that, yeah.
40:11In the corner, as they should.
40:13I mean, at the end of the day.
40:14You know, they said the beef wasn't really personal.
40:16Yeah, both of them in the fighter meeting actually were more respectful about each other than they
40:20had been in face-to-face at a press conference.
40:29And, you know, sometimes you get fights that are one-sided, but they're still pretty entertaining.
40:33Yeah.
40:33Even though the scorecards might not reflect that.
40:35Yeah, this was kind of like that.
40:36You know, I thought, you know, Simpson kept it interesting.
40:39And, you know, just watching Tucker do what he does in the manner in which he does, it
40:44also was entertaining because, you know, you start to see where this guy starts to fit
40:48in the world title picture.
40:49Because, you know, now you're getting to that point where the win like this, where you've
40:52got to at least start to be considered in that contender status.
40:55And we should remind everybody, that's a great precursor, he's only 22 years old.
40:59He turned pro at 17.
41:00This is his 16th professional fight.
41:0417th professional fight.
41:05He didn't have that draw.
41:06And, you know, he's still improving.
41:09His body's still growing, his mechanics and everything.
41:11But he's also a guy, I don't know, typically energy fighters don't last as long.
41:16You know, so it's good that he's coming into a good level in his career at 22 years old
41:21because this is where, you know, energy fighters can really have a lot of potential at this
41:25age.
41:25As you get older, you've got to be crafty in different ways.
41:28Typically, your energy doesn't really carry the day as much.
41:33And then on the other hand, you know, obviously we have to wait and see how the judges have
41:36this one scored.
41:37But some questions about where Lorenzo Truck Simpson goes from here, what weight he wants
41:42to fight out, where he wants to be at last few camps with Ronnie Shields, now back
41:45with Calvin Ford.
41:46Yeah.
41:47Yeah, that's true, too.
41:49Well, I don't know, man.
41:50He's got some decisions to make, man.
41:51He's got some decisions to make.
41:52And hopefully Simpson can, you know, go home and speak to the people he cares about and
41:56people that he, you know, trusts and, you know, get some good advice.
42:00Because he seems like a good kid at heart, but sometimes he gets a little bit distracted
42:06himself.
42:06And he's young, and sometimes that happens to us.
42:08You know, life gets in the way.
42:09Life blocks our better decision-making and whatnot.
42:12And I think Simpson right now needs somebody to help him make some good decisions.
42:18All right.
42:19Well, speaking of decisions, let's send it up to Ralph Velez and get the official decision
42:22for our co-main event.
42:24Ladies and gentlemen, after 10 rounds of action, we go to the judges' scorecards.
42:33Judge Anthony Lundy scored the contest 96-94, while judges Jacqueline Atkins and John McKay scored
42:41the contest 97-93, all for your winner by unanimous decision.
42:49From Deer Park, New York, the two-tag general, Jahai Tucker.
43:01Jahai Tucker walks away here with the unanimous decision victory, but a lot closer on the
43:12scorecards, guys.
43:13Then what?
