00:00Something that pertains to Garrett Crochet.
00:02Garrett Crochet joins Pedro Martinez in 1999 and 2000
00:07as the only Red Sox pitchers with at least 125 strikeouts
00:11and 30 runs or fewer allowed in their first 16 starts of a season.
00:16Now, that is pretty incredible company there
00:18when you're talking about Pedro Martinez back in that realm.
00:22Pedro Martinez, for those of you who might not be old enough to remember
00:26or even appreciate it, 1999 Pedro Martinez.
00:30Let me throw some stats at you because it's fun.
00:33If you ask me what pitcher I want, if I have one start to make,
00:36I want 1999 Pedro Martinez.
00:38That's who I want.
00:39He was 23-4 over 31 games with a 207 ERA.
00:46And get this, 313 strikeouts to just 37 walks.
00:51Let me say that again, 313 strikeouts to 37 walks.
00:55Pedro Martinez had a K per 9 of 13.2
00:58and a walk per 9 of 1.6 that year.
01:01He led the league in strikeouts.
01:02He led the league in wins.
01:03He led the league in ERA.
01:05He led the league in pretty much everything.
01:08ERA plus FIP.
01:09The FIP was 139.
01:11So his ERA was 207, but he should have been even better than that.
01:15And that was 1999 and 2000.
01:17Well, he was pretty damn good too because guess what?
01:19That FIP came around.
01:20He had a 174 ERA the next year and 284 strikeouts in 29 starts.
01:25So he did miss a couple of starts there.
01:27So, oh, well, a little imperfection there from Pedro Martinez.
01:31But it does go back to how good Garrett Crochet has been here for the Red Sox.
01:35And I think this is probably one of the most important offseason moves that any team made.
01:41And I was stunned that the White Sox gave up so little to get Garrett Crochet, a young
01:47left-handed starting pitcher with capability of striking out 200 plus guys in a season.
01:51Those guys don't grow on trees, but somehow the Red Sox were able to manage to pull him
01:56away.
01:56Now, Kyle Teal is a nice young prospect.
01:59Chase Mydroth is probably going to be an everyday player, you know, kind of a punch
02:03and Judy, Louis Arise kind of guy.
02:05Get on base, maybe steal some bases for you, hit for a decent average.
02:08But I wouldn't call them stars.
02:11It's not like they dealt Christian Campbell or Roman Anthony or even Marcelo Mayer necessarily
02:15to get Garrett Crochet.
02:17But this was a huge win.
02:18And if this trade happened in your Dynasty League, you'd look at it and go, what?
02:22What happens in Major League Baseball, we all just kind of accept it.
02:25It was kind of strange there because I thought for sure that the White Sox held all the cards
02:29here with Crochet.
02:30And I thought for sure they would bring back more to remake this organization.
02:33And they failed.
