Transcript
00:00So Donna, we're here in Forward Houses and a scout group, which scout group is it?
00:04This is First Forward Houses scout group, we're the B Lane part of it.
00:08And a bit of a special day today, what's happening?
00:11We're having the grand reopening of our scout hut, we've spent just over a year refurbing it
00:16from an unusable space to a much better space where we can use much more, do much more skating skills around.
00:24So what sort of stuff, kitchen area, that was kind of a bit of a mess, wasn't it, previously?
00:30Yeah, the kitchen was unusable, so we've ripped all that out, put a new kitchen in,
00:35we've installed a disabled toilet to make it more compliant,
00:40all the walls have been ripped off and insulated and re-boarded, and we've had central heating.
00:47And where have you managed to get the funding from?
00:49It's money that we've been saving up for fundraising.
00:52Yeah, yeah. And it's getting a new name, isn't it, the hut?
00:58It is getting a new name, yes.
00:59The person it's been named after, they're inside, aren't they?
01:02Yes.
01:03So I think we're... go on, tell us about this person.
01:07Brian was one of the first people that started this group 50 years ago.
01:11Yeah.
01:12So it's our 50th anniversary as well, and so he's retired from the group now.
01:19Last year he retired from our group, so because he's put so much work into this group,
01:24we've decided to rename the hut the Brian Walters Scouting Activity Centre.
01:29And he doesn't really know it's been named after him, does he?
01:31He hasn't a clue.
01:32Yeah, which is fantastic.
01:33He also doesn't know that we've had a bench for him as well.
01:36Ah, okay. Ah, that's the bench there. Yeah, cool.
01:39We'll get a little shot of that.
01:40And you've got some kind of kids' activities as well going on, aren't we?
01:43Can you smell a barbecue?
01:44Yes, we've got a barbecue going, we've got archery, soft archery going,
01:50there's hook-a-duck, there's rope-making going on,
01:54a tombola as well, and we've got refreshments as well inside.
01:58Great stuff.
01:59Well, we know how hard you guys work behind the scenes to keep these scouts groups going,
02:03so thank you.
02:04Okay, thank you very much.
02:05Okay, in front of you is a bench.
02:09Yeah.
02:10Okay, if you walk forward, okay, we've bought this bench for you, Brian.
02:15Oh, yes.
02:16Okay, it says, a welcome seat for number one after 50 years of skating.
02:23Now, I don't remember signing a chance enough.
02:26So if you'd like to take a seat so we can take your photograph on your bench.
02:31I'd like to have to get up again after.
02:33Right, we've got one more surprise for you, Brian.
02:35Okay, if you'd like to come this way.
02:42Okay, we've decided to do something for you, okay,
02:47because you've been part of this group and a big part of this group for so long
02:50that you do need to cut the scissors, the thing on that one.
02:53You've got the scissors.
02:54There's a tape there.
02:56Right, now this is the last part of my opening ceremony.
03:00Donna, have you read PRR?

03:28She's now called the Brian Walters Skating Activities Centre.
03:40Nice.
03:41Thank you everybody for coming.
03:44Oh, this is us.
03:45Oh, this is us.
03:47What's happened here today, I was expecting my 50-year thing.
03:50I know I was going to get that sometime.
03:52That's going to be on my wall at home, but this is something fantastic.
03:58If you go into good years, there used to be a plaque in there for my wife, who did a lot of work there, so between the two of us, we did a lot of work for scouting, so thank you all very much, and now, when I go home today, I can take my uniform off, and pull in a tie, but I'll still be in the cupboard, so if anybody wants to let that, you know he'll get me out. Thank you all very much.
