Transcript
00:00We're at the Old Cross pub in Oldbury and we're with landlord Trevor, hello sir.
00:03Oh yeah.
00:03So Trevor you're soon to become a pirate aren't you?
00:06Within the next 10 minutes.
00:08Cool, and what's it all about then? What's happening today?
00:10It's a fun day for families and whatever. It's a fundraising event we do it every year.
00:17It's a competition that we can collect as much treasure as they possibly can.
00:24The routes have been planned, they don't know where they're going yet.
00:27They will get a clue from here. When they get to that place, if they're in the right place, they'll get another clue.
00:33That will send them to somewhere else and so on and so on and so on until they get back here at about 5 or 6 o'clock tonight.
00:41And are we talking like jumping a car kind of distances?
00:44Yeah, on a bus, a train maybe?
00:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49Cool.
00:50And they have to do tasks don't they along the way? What are some of the tasks they've had to do in the past?
00:55Well, in every pub there's some things that they've got to find.
00:59It might be something in a picture or an ornament or something and they'll get a clue to that.
01:05If they think they've found it, they'll take a photograph of it.
01:08Yeah, yeah.
01:09We've got an app up and running that's controlling everything.
01:13Awesome.
01:14If they take a photograph of it and it's the right thing, they've found the right thing, it'll award them points.
01:19Yeah.
01:20The three core treasure and they've got three treasure chests they can put these points into.
01:23Yeah.
01:24And I'd say the team that has the most points at the end of the day is the winner.
01:30But they can actually rob each other's chests.
01:33Yeah.
01:34In true pirate fashion.
01:36Yeah.
01:37There is a buried treasure chest where they can put the points into.
01:43Yeah, yeah.
01:44And that's completely safe.
01:45Yeah.
01:46But that's only worth 50% of the value at the end of the day.
01:48Got it, yeah.
01:49And all raising money for charity, go on, who are we raising money for?
01:54British Art Foundation and St Albans.
01:57So you always try and pick someone that's kind of local or there's a story, don't you?
02:01Yeah, yeah.
02:02You know, you've got to have a link to it.
02:03So, well done.
02:04We know the work of St Albans and British Art Foundation.
02:06Great stuff.
02:07I won't keep you any more from donning that wig in this lovely red hot...
02:11Yeah, it's going to be a bit sweaty.
02:13Begarsons, please.
02:15Welcome to the old class.
02:17Old Cross Pirate Day.
02:20I think everybody's here.
02:23Have we got?
02:24Tickle me timbers.
02:31Old Cross Pirate Day 2025.
02:34If I could have your attention, please.
02:36We will start today as we start every Pirate Day.
02:39Give yourselves a huge round of applause.
02:42Honestly, unbelievable today.
02:45Because of you, you are now an integral part of Langley's, Langley's even, biggest event.
02:56When we begin organising today, one of our biggest concerns is not having enough people
03:01and not having enough teams.
03:03We knew, early on, that that wasn't going to be a problem.
03:06Little did we know that there was going to be something called an app that was going
03:11to give us a hell of a lot to worry about, never mind people participating.
03:14But we have over 200 Pirates participating this year.
03:18This is by far the biggest Pirate Day that we have ever organised.
03:22So from myself, from Neil, from the Rigging Friggers, I thank you all for your participation.
03:27I don't know if it's going to be a problem.
03:30But I've heard it might kick off.
03:31Is that what you've heard?
03:32Yes, it's mother-in-law and son-in-law.
03:34They hate each other.
03:35Cheer, oh dear.
03:36It's happening.
03:37It's on.
03:38It's on.
03:40And first blow goes to mother-in-law.
03:42She takes him by the time.
03:44He runs.
03:45He runs.
03:46He's got her.
03:47He's got her.
03:48It's all over.
03:49It's all over.
03:50Yeah.
03:51Yeah.
03:52Where you come from?
03:53Which areas?
03:54Around here.
03:55Albury, just around here.
03:56And have you ever done this before?
03:57This is our first year, mate.
03:59Yeah, this is our first.
04:01Yeah, yeah.
04:02Cool.
04:03Now, it's going to be like El Scorcio, innit, today?
04:05How are you going to fare with them wigs and caps?
04:07Not well.
04:08That's going to be a sweater, innit?
04:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:11My totes will be off at the end today.
04:13Well, hey, well.
04:14There you go.
04:15There we go.
04:16Look, this is a family paper we're doing this all.
04:19I love that.
04:21So, it's just basically all about having a laugh, innit?
04:24Yeah.
04:25Having a few beers, having a laugh, yeah?
04:26And raising money for charity.
04:28Awesome work.
04:29So, have you guys had to get special clobber-like?
04:33Yeah.
04:34Yeah.
04:35Oh, yeah, just pick.
04:36Yeah, yeah, great stuff.
04:37And who's Parrot here?
04:38Has Parrot got anything to say?
04:45Oh, yes!
