00:00You know, this is like a fun way to be scared because it's, you know, not just because it's during the day, but, you know, it has such a buoyancy as you watch the film that it's not just, you know, you're not watching, you know, a little girl possessed by the devil.
00:12You're really watching, you know, this sort of very, if not relatable, but this sort of very believable scenario unfold and how beautifully, again, Spielberg and how deft and light a touch he shows with his camera and all these other things that I think really uplifted and allow it and help it endure today.
00:33You know, part of the magic of movies, of course, is when you leave the theater, what you take with you and fear.
00:39I think a lot of people took with them when they went to the beach.
00:42They didn't want to get in the water.
00:44I mean, that was so omnipresent at the time when this was released, was it not?
00:48Yes, yes, very much so.
00:49You know, at the time, there was not a lot known sort of widely.
00:53You know, this, of course, was many decades away from the ease of a Google search.
00:59But, you know, but people could not, didn't know a whole lot about sharks, especially great whites.
01:05And so this movie mythologized them while also depicting them very much as what they are, which is an animal.
01:13You know, the movie, for better or for worse, does not vilify this shark.
01:17It just sort of portrays it as this animal that is capable of, you know, incredible destruction.
01:23And then, you know, of course, over-dramatizes it for the purposes of this film.
01:27But, you know, for years and decades, not only did it inspire, you know, a lot of people, including myself, to sort of double-check whenever they jump in a deep water.
01:39But, you know, but it also inspired a lot of people when they watched the movie to want to be or to explore, you know, oceanography, to study sharks and all these other things.
01:49So it was incredibly culturally impactful aside from its, you know, sort of just commercial and entertainment value.
01:56You know, it's so interesting that you brought that up, lastly, because it really did kind of usher in the shark as this dangerous marine figure into the collective cultural consciousness.
02:09Yes, there were Jaws sequels, but I'm talking about the Sharknado franchise.
02:13I'm talking about Shark Week on Discovery.
02:16Sharks all the time.
02:17Yeah, it really, I mean, it cultivated such a widespread mainstream interest in them, you know, that it, I mean, you mentioned Shark Week, but I mean, you know, there were not just the sequels for this film, but there were imitators.
02:32You know, there were dozens across the globe.
02:37I mean, there were Italian copycats.
02:39There were, you know, and for decades, there have been other films that have tried to harness the power that this movie creates with these animals.
02:48And so you have all these different, you know, sort of different platforms now where people can tell different kinds of stories.
02:54And sharks continue to be this utterly fascinating being, you know, and I think it owes a lot to sort of even just the way that Quint sort of defines them as these sort of, you know, these machine-like with a doll's eyes, you know, and just how, you know, how cold and emotionless they are.
03:12And, you know, there are so many creatures that have been created in the subsequent five decades that we absolutely owe a huge debt to this movie and its description of that that they tried to recreate in some different form.
03:26All right.
03:26Todd Gilchrist, we're going to have to leave it at that.
03:28Can't thank you enough for coming on this Friday night to talk about Jaws.
03:30Always fun to talk movies.
03:32Have a good weekend.
03:33Thank you so much for having me on.
03:35Okay.
03:35In the meantime, before we take our final break of the hour, I want to just show you how social media is marking this occasion, especially Major League Baseball.
03:42Take a look at this.
03:44The Yankees have an exclusive Jaws milkshake and Jaws Yankees souvenir cup to celebrate the movie's 50th anniversary.
03:52And you see there the shake is made with vanilla ice cream, raspberry sauce, whipped cream, blue gummy sharks, and Lifesaver gummies.
03:59So kind of cool there.
04:00This is, I think, a lot on social media today with so many movie buffs remembering when they saw Jaws the first time.
04:09All right.
04:09In the meantime here, let's take that final commercial break.
04:11We'll see you in two minutes.

05:28We'll see you in two minutes.
05:29We'll see you in two minutes.
08:00We don't know exactly where this is headed, so Alon Burstein is going to be joining me in about 15 minutes.
08:05We're going to be discussing everything Israel-Iran conflict related.
08:08We're going to be showing your questions as well, as we've been doing all week.
08:11Let's go ahead and throw that up on the screen.
08:13What do you want to know about the Israel-Iran conflict?
08:15You guys have been sending in great questions all week.
08:17We're going to keep it going with Alon Burstein in 15 minutes here.
08:20You know the drill.
08:21Scan the QR code on your screen.
08:23And if QR codes aren't your thing, you can go to LiveNowFox.com slash connect and go to the Ask Now section.
08:30The Ask Now tab is what you're going to want to click on.
08:32Again, LiveNowFox.com slash connect.
08:37Or you can take out the phone, the camera app on your phone, point it at that QR code.
08:42It'll take you to the web address without you having to type it in.
08:45And again, the Ask Now tab is going to want to be what you're going to click on so that you can send in your questions.
08:49And then you very well may see your question posed to one of our analysts later on in the evening.
08:56Of course, the Israel-Iran conflict continues to be the number one focus.
09:00And it's something that's going to continue to be one of our primary focuses over the weekend as well, Andrew.
09:06So a lot to discuss with Alon tonight.
09:09Of course, we're going to be getting to lots and lots of audience questions as we normally do.
09:13So don't go anywhere for that.
09:14Let's get this live look of New York City back up, by the way, too.
09:17A live look at Fox News World Headquarters.
09:20And then I think we've got our usual look at the White House as well, Andrew.
09:24You alluded to this yesterday.
09:25We now see these two big American flags.
09:29What is it that you read about this?
09:31They just put these up, correct, Andrew?
09:33Yes, this was just installed a couple of days ago.
09:35Our viewers watched it live.
09:38And so usually in this shot, you have a kind of direct glance and view into the White House.
09:44But now you see this really beautiful, just massive American flag kind of billowing there on the very large pole and then one behind the White House as well.
09:54So just kind of a key feature.
09:56You know, President Trump is really kind of putting his decor signature.
10:01Not only in the Oval Office, but outside the White House as well.
10:05Exactly, exactly.
10:06And I just wanted to bring up, you know, speaking of President Trump, remember all day yesterday we were discussing what does within two weeks actually mean on whether or not the president's going to decide to strike targets inside Iran?
10:20Is that on the tail end of two weeks, a full two weeks, or is that within, say, three or four days?
10:25That's the unknown I'm looking at right now.
10:27It's a huge question.
10:28And I was just talking with some viewers.
10:31One of the main questions is still, what is the U.S. going to do?
10:34That was our big question yesterday.
10:35It's going to remain our big question until we get some sort of clarity on when President Trump will make a decision.
10:41So far, the U.S. has played a defensive role in this conflict.
10:44The big question moving forward, we've got, what now, 13 days until that up to two weeks ends.
10:51So there are a lot of unknowns.
10:53Chief among those unknowns is where does the White House go from here?
10:56We're going to be speaking about that with Alone and much more.
10:58By the way, the audience, if you want to guide our conversation in any way possible, if there's something that we're not asking about that you want to ask about, please send your question in.
11:08We would love to show it to Alone Burstein or perhaps any of our other guests over the weekend as well.
11:12Something we're going to keep doing on the regular here, Andrew.
11:14All right.
11:15And today in New York at the U.N. Security Council, the two belligerents in this conflict, Iran and Israel, their ambassadors literally sat across from each other, squaring off, making their case for what they're doing and why.
11:28Let's watch it.
12:32Hospital in Tehran, Farabi Rehabilitation Hospital
12:36in Kermanshah, and Iranian Red Crescent Society Building
12:40and medical ambulances.
12:44These are only a few instances of the brutality
12:47and gross violation of international humanitarian
12:50law by Israeli regime.
12:53At least two pregnant women and the unborn children
12:57were killed on the same day Israel struck
13:01the national broadcasters IRIB during a live broadcast
13:05killing journalists and humanitarian workers.
13:09Just today, Israeli regime inflicted damage
13:14to two other hospitals in Iran, endangering the lives
13:18of patients and medical personnel.
13:22Up till now, five hospitals have suffered
13:25from heinous attack of Israeli regime,
13:29along with physicians and humanitarian personnel who
13:32have been killed or injured.
13:35There were not accidents.
13:37There were not collateral damage.
13:40They were deliberated war crimes, acts of state terror,
13:45an example of barbaric warfare.
13:49Madam President, Excellencies and colleagues, Israel also
13:52attacked Iran's peaceful safeguard nuclear site and facilities.
13:57On 13 June, it struck the uranium conversion facility
14:02and the fuel plate fabrication plant.
14:06On 18 June, it targeted centrifuge production sites
14:10in Tehran and Karaj, both under IAEA monitoring.
14:15On the 19 June, it attacked the ARAC heavy water reactor
14:19built on the GCPOA term and IAEA safeguards with no proliferation risk.
14:26These attacks violate the UN Charter, international law,
14:31the IAEA statute and Security Council Resolution 2231 and 487.
14:38Israeli strikes are an assault on the global non-proliferation regime.
14:44Security Council Resolution 487, which was adopted unanimously clearly,
14:50state that any military attack on the safeguard nuclear facilities
14:55is an attack on the entire IAEA safeguard system and the MPT itself.
15:02The Security Council must implement its resolution.
15:08If the Council fails to act now, it will send a message that international law
15:13and resolution apply selectively.
15:16If the non-proliferation regime collapse,
15:19this Council will share responsibility with the Israeli regime.
15:24Madam President, despite Iran's repeated warning about the threats
15:29of our peaceful nuclear sites and facilities,
15:32the IAEA Director General has failed to act.
15:36This silence undermines the agency authority, neutrality and credibility.
15:42The IAEA cannot remain silent while safeguard facilities are attacked.
15:48This inaction must end.
15:51Israeli openly declared that it will continue this strike
15:54for as many days as it takes.
15:59We are alarmed by credible report that the United States as a depository of NPT may be joining this war.
16:09Any such support violates the NPT and undermines global security.
16:16The selective invocation of international law by U.S. France, using it when convenient,
16:23discarding it when it constrains their allies is a form of institutional hypocrisy that gravely undermines the credibility of this council and the international law.
16:37Let me clear.
16:38Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and under the world's most extensive IAEA inspections.
16:45Iran has long advocated for a nuclear weapon-free zone in the Middle East.
16:51Israel is the only possessor of undeclared nuclear weapon in the region.
16:57It refused to accede to the NPT and block regional disarmament efforts.
17:03Madam President, Israeli creation violated the UN Charter.
17:07It breached the basic principle of prohibition of the use of force.
17:11It violates Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
17:15It violates international human rights law and targets innocent civilians and threatens the right of life and security of our people.
17:26This regime committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and state terrorism.
17:33It attacks on safeguard nuclear facilities set a dangerous precedent for global security.
17:40Madam President, the already dire situation has been exacerbated by mounting an irrefutable evidence of direct involvement by the United States in this illegal war of aggression.
17:55The U.S. has publicly threatened to strike Iran's safeguard nuclear facilities.
18:01Such acts constitute a flagrant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and a breach of the sovereign equality of states.
18:12These reckless statements and actions emanate from the head of a state who is a permanent member of this Council and entrusted with primary responsibility for international peace and security and irresponsible behavior.
18:28Madam President, Iran has exercised its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
18:37Our response has complied fully with international law, including humanitarian law.
18:44We have taken all necessary precautions to protect civilians.
18:49Iran will continue to exercise this right as long as the Security Council fails to discharge its primary responsibility under the Charter and until the Israeli aggression is fully and unequivocally terminated.
19:04The Security Council must act now.
19:07We reiterate our call on the Security Council to determine the Israeli illegal use of force and armed attacks against Iran are a breach of peace, an act of aggression, adopt binding and enforcement measures under Chapter 7 to halt aggression and prevent its recurrence.
19:29Condemned clearly the violation of Iran's sovereignty and targeting of our safeguarding nuclear facilities.
19:37Address the risk of wider regional war, especially the unlawful involvement of a third country.
19:44Madam President, the lies and fabrication used by the representative of the Israeli regime and its Western allies don't work anymore to whitewash and justify its horrendous crimes.
19:59International law is clear.
20:02There is no right for Israel to commit this act of aggression.
20:06No right to attack and target civilians, civilian infrastructure or safeguard nuclear facilities.
20:13No legal or moral cover for war crimes.
20:17The so-called preemptive attack and existential threat claims used by this terrorist regime and its allies to justify aggression have no basis in international law.
20:29And to conduct act of aggression, kill innocent people and violate the territorial integrity of states.
20:36These are false excuses for Israeli aggression.
20:41Iran has never initiated any war.
20:44While Israel, as an occupying and terrorist regime, has a long and dark history of illegal use of force, violation of all legal international norms, assassination and nuclear secrecy that destabilize the entire region.
21:00The selective use of international law by certain members of this council expose dangerous double standards that endanger international peace and security and undermine the credibility of this body without the support and protection of certain Western states.
21:17The
