A retired Scotland Yard detective has called for the Government to stop funding Notting Hill Carnival in a furious rant on GB News.Mike Neville told The People's Channel that taxpayers should not be paying for an event that sees "an average of ten stabbings every year".His intervention comes as carnival organisers have written to Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy requesting urgent Government funding to address "critical public safety concerns" identified in a recent safety review. The leaked letter warns that the future of Europe's largest street party is "in jeopardy" without immediate financial support from the Government.READ THE FULL STORY HERE

00:00we've had this conversation before it comes around every year i think your position is it's simply
00:05too dangerous and now they want more money from the taxpayer simply to keep it open it's crazy
00:11isn't it we're talking at least 12 million pounds uh to police that some of what most of that is
00:16that well half it's overtime for the police gets held over bank holiday now the concerns are these
00:21one it's very dangerous the crust situation is unbelievable to to have such masses of crowds in a
00:27residential area and secondly the levels of crime there's an average of 10 stabbings every year
00:34and as you said there was two murders last year there was a a murder in 2022 so my view is they
00:40should not be funding this event unless they're prepared to move and if they're prepared to move
00:46then they should move it to somewhere like hyde park which can be policed and controlled with
00:50security properly and also the people can pay to go there because why should me you or any other
00:56any other viewer or listener be paying for this event it's just it's just not on it's a waste of
01:01taxpayers money people want to go to this event let them pay for it now mike neville of course supporters
01:07of the event would say it's an important cultural event they would also say that taxpayer pays for
01:13policing at things like the football but of course you've told me many times in the past that if
01:18the notting hill carnival was policed like the football there'd be many many more arrests
01:24yeah absolutely standard when they say there's been 100 arrests at notting hill if somebody behaved
01:30in the same way at millwall football match you know twerking with female officers to the point of
01:34indecent assault openly smoking drugs or abusing the police they'd be straight away arrested and even
01:41more so if there was any football or any event which was attended by white working class lads where
01:46there was 10 stabbings a year and two two murders last year it simply wouldn't be allowed to go ahead if
01:52it's that important culturally they can move it they can have it in a place which is safe for all
01:57those attending and can be proper police because you could put knife arches and also with nottingill
02:03because it's residential you could hide a knife or drugs within the carnival area under a bin
02:08under a bush a week before the event turn up and use it if it was properly prepared in high park where
02:14there's a proper sweep by drugs dogs and things like that that wouldn't be allowed to happen so it'd be
02:19much safer the event could be held and the taxpayer wouldn't be fronting up for it
