Motorists vs Cyclists in the North East

How well do motorists and cyclists share the road in your area? What could be done to make it safer for both?

00:02Drivers, I'm not a cyclist, I'm a horse rider.

00:05And Sib kind of goes, cyclists are bad, but drivers are horrible.

00:10The amount of times that I've nearly been hit,

00:12because drivers just don't take enough space,

00:15they go past too quick and luckily my mare's great and she's so safe.

00:19But people go past it 60 miles an hour on a bend, it's blind.

00:24I'm stood there, I can hear you coming and it's really dangerous

00:28because if she wasn't safe, I was on a youngster,

00:30or it was a bike, or it was a kid on a bike,

00:32you're going to hit them?

00:33They're going to get sad, you're going to hit them?

00:35I think that cyclists, before they're allowed to,

00:37unless there's a cycle lane, if they're going to cycle in the road,

00:40they need to know the rules of the road.

00:42It's easy to cycle being a driver, I feel like,

00:45but sometimes it's, yeah, they're just coming left, right,

00:49like usually it's just stay on the left, as far to the left as you can,

00:52but I feel like a lot of cyclists don't know that.

00:54I think it would help if cyclists have to do a proficiency test.
