Wolves report card: Grading the forwards

00:00oh we're back baby it's thursday and that means we are talking about the forwards we shall be
00:14grading them from a plus to f um we've already had an a plus for mr lean king this season and
00:20that is mr joao gomez and sam johnson we're delighted to see that his mark was an f so will
00:28we hit an a plus will we hit an f it remains to be seen let's see let's go into it let's go with
00:33someone who i guess we can classify wolves have classified him as a forward this season however
00:38we've seen him play a left wing back i don't think that classification uh will be the same going
00:42forward because he has admitted that this and probably hugo bueno um will be the two we're
00:47battling out for a left wing back spot next year but all in all we did see a decent amount of
00:52rodrigo gomez maybe a little bit less than perhaps we thought at the very start of the season we've
00:57seen in pre-season but nonetheless i think an encouraging first season for for rodrigo gomez
01:03liam and someone we've said i'm not too concerned about not seeing that much of him because i think
01:08it's important for a young lad just to bring him into this country bring him in with the pace of the
01:12premier league look he scored premier league goals um i think he had some really positive games
01:17at the same time there's still work to be done i think especially defensively if he is going to go
01:21into a left wing back slot but someone who plays the smile on his face like i say epitomizes what i think
01:26wants to get across in this side the way they want to play i think there's more to come from him as
01:31you would expect from a youngster but a promising first season i think in wolf's colors rodrigo
01:37gomez for me gets a b and i agree i think that's fair oh all the rhyming we're we're we're back on
01:45the same wavelength again um yeah in hindsight we probably should have put him in the defenders
01:49really considering he's going to be a wing back uh in this system um you say left but he played a lot
01:54on the right as well and yeah i guess so yeah and i think he could be depending on where the
01:57recruitment comes in he could be a player for either either flank really um and if samuel does
02:02go i think you need you know you need a senior player replacement coming in as well you can have
02:06rodrigo and pedro lima so there are there is work to do if samuel leaves but big fan rodrigo gomez
02:12firstly for a lot of things you've just said off the field fantastic person um really good to work
02:18with really enthusiastic desperate to be there and succeed and exactly the kind of thing that
02:22wolf's need as a player obviously there were things were improved but we saw lots of good
02:27moments as well a few a couple of good goals a handful of good goals and i think going forward
02:31he'll be an important part of this this football team he's still a young lad um and i'm excited for
02:37what he'll be moving forward i think a b is a very good start for a young man coming to england for
02:42the first time so nu came to england um and has now departed back to ajax and that was carlos forbes
02:47no partly because gary o'neill wasn't too sure i think rodrigo gomez that's why i think why it's
02:51in the forwards is that started off as very much a forward player um and then obviously we've seen
02:57what he can do and we knew before that he could play defensively as well from his his hand portugal
03:01under 21s but i think carlos forbes was brought into kind of content with rodrigo gomez and one of
03:05those two players been a starter didn't really happen for for rodrigo gomez as in from a regular
03:10point of view definitely didn't happen for carlos forbes um a lot of bench appearances liam uh not a
03:17lot of um times that he featured uh look obviously i think very quick but it became apparent to anyone
03:24who was looking at me i think in training that he wasn't ready he wasn't ready to make an impact in
03:28the premier league and i think it all expected that he was going to go back to yx and that there's no
03:31deal to take place there was a clause in his contract if he played x amount of games like
03:36extra and large and then they would have triggered um a permanent a permanent purchase but that wasn't
03:41the case i don't even came close to that um grading him interesting liam um i don't want to leave this
03:47person on a hill uh so i'm going to let sam johnson be joined by carlos forbes and he gets an f
03:51i think so sorry carlos uh and again a lovely lad uh you know nice young man but it just didn't work
04:04um he wasn't ready uh didn't fit into the system vital prayer said look you're going to have to
04:12learn how to defend and be a wingback if you want to play for me and in those few months didn't work
04:15didn't play only got a couple of some appearances i believe it was the only made one start actually
04:21uh if my math is correct it was only one start throughout the whole season and it wasn't just
04:26appearances for that um that permanent deal to go through it was a certain number of starts
04:30he was nowhere near with one start not even close so it was never going to happen um there were
04:36there were we went through a spell of fans clamoring for him wanting you know get an opportunity get a
04:42start get a chance and we said from the beginning look he's not good enough it's not going to happen
04:47the managers and the coaches and the club have realized he's not good enough um and in the very
04:54few appearances he did have he proved that he wasn't quite good enough um we wish him well for his future
05:00going forward i'm sure he'll have a good career somewhere he's clearly got talent um he's very
05:06fast he's dynamic and can be dangerous but it's just not going to work at walls it's not going to
05:10happen maybe he will elsewhere and we wish him well but i think an f is is about right and that one
05:14start by the way was brentford away the one we were talking about earlier the 5-3 uh in fact he
05:21wasn't even that bad actually that day in comparison to some other players but um yeah not one to remember
05:255-3 the game that flushed walls when you get 5-3 defeat that's when that's when that's when you know
05:29you're in trouble darry o'neill um right um another one who's left the club pablo sarabia
05:34um i think probably before the last two months of the season i would have been saying it's probably
05:42a d for pablo sarabia just probably not really involved when he did do it was it was in and out
05:48um you know that right hand side which he had so much success with didn't he was i mean it was
05:52almost sarabia honey and netto wanted last season was that front three when they were playing really
05:56really well but yeah just too inconsistent for me and was kind of like in and out with
06:01gueders and himself and a little bit of bellegarde and put some some massive goals some brilliant
06:07goals you know that that key goal away it was which the manchester united winner as well voted
06:13a goal of the season so look some some happier and memories uh recent memories of pablo sarabia knows
06:19how to score bangers i think that last season in that home goal against spurs i believe it was as well
06:24was unbelievable so look he has got quality at the same time i think overall his career has been
06:28a disappointment um probably a disappointing season overall um if you take the 38 games for
06:33pablo sarabia and it was no surprise to me that he wasn't kept on on big money here and didn't
06:37really deliver like i said there was some some quality there but for me overall for this season
06:43it's a c again on the same wavelength exactly what i was going to say um yeah some good moments
06:52i switch goal and assist united goal obviously last season with spurs he's got he's got some good
06:57moments but for the money he was on i think for the technical ability he has you've probably got to
07:03do a bit more than you know a handful of good games a season um but he's one of those other players
07:07that we talk about that is an excellent professional really good off the field and for those reasons
07:12there are some positives as well i think i see he's about right because um his impact for the
07:18technical ability has could and should have been a bit better but when he did have those moments
07:22there were big moments as well whenever you say for those reasons i feel like when dragon's down
07:26you're going to go i'm out i'm out well he's out he's out someone who could be out but he's not
07:33at this moment in time but he could be in again or he could be out or he could be in or he could be
07:37out huang he chan oh huang oh i think we both really like huang he chan i think um not just his
07:47character but the fact that i think there is a talent there i think that it didn't happen for him
07:52this season for a variety of reasons but look poor form is the main one um someone who i think again
07:59is a confidence player and just did not feature um really um we know he's been plagued with injuries
08:05throughout his career but yeah it was a massive fall off for huang he chan this year um rejected
08:11big money for him in the summer and i assume that if that figure came in this offseason then i don't
08:18think huang he chan will be a wolves player anymore so at the same time i think he and we both agree
08:23that he's got attributes he's got assets that that are important to this side i wouldn't be disappointed
08:28if he was still involved next season but he's going to have to up his game for someone who scored
08:3210 premier league goals before the year was out last season and then and then had the campaign
08:37that he's just had um is a massive fall off for me um i think you can put you can look at a couple
08:43of reasons why that didn't happen but i think ultimately huang he chan has got to play better
08:47and he's got to force the manager's hand that just didn't happen this season i still hold out
08:51hope for him he's one of very few players who's got 10 plus premier league goals in a season
08:57and when you've got those players then i think it's important that you you hang on to them if
09:02they want to be at the club and you still see promising signs from that person but for me for
09:06a campaign overall it's a disappointing one you might disagree with me kino you might be a little
09:11bit less harsh than me i'm going to say it's an e plus oh i was going to say d minus we're not too far
09:19away from each other um but both of those scores reflect the season he had unfortunately um as you
09:26say 12 goals the season before i mean 10 of which came in the first half of the campaign obviously a
09:31difficult second half of the campaign he scored two last season that was it um struggled for
09:37fitness struggled with other players being ahead of him but the main thing as you've already said
09:42is his own form when he did get chances was nowhere near good enough um his confidence player that
09:47just didn't didn't never found his feet this season and he's a he's a again a good individual
09:52i interviewed him um and he said he was he was very complimentary of all said it's his dream club
09:58he loves his teammates loves loves being here but he was very coy about what his future holds
10:02um we know he came close to leaving last season with marseille interested and i think he's one that
10:07could move on if the if all the the chips fall in the right uh in the right place so let's see
10:12let's see exactly what happens with him i i hold out hope that he's got a wolf's future and
10:17he got a wolf's future in good form because he's capable of it but last season was poor i'll go d
10:22minus you're with stranelarsson um amazing season really first season the premier league uh went
10:27strength to strength had a bit of a sticky patch and um they got that injury didn't he as well
10:31um and then picked up another hand injury so but we all thought that i kind of he kind of like
10:36i think just got a little bit tired you know playing the premier league every single week i think it's a
10:41lot for him some coming from a coming from a league as he did to play in the premier league it's he
10:45needed a bit of a break and i think actually the injury probably helps him because he came back
10:48and when matthias kunyu was injured he was integral was on a purple patch goal scoring and i think
10:53probably even though i think he can improve on aspects of his game i think around 15 goals is
10:59what he's going to be looking to score each season um someone who needed to lead the line and the first
11:03time we've seen someone since Raul Jimenez look like um he can play that part um excellent season
11:09for me first season the premier league and between an a and an a minus i'm going to give him an a minus
11:13i'm going to give him an a hey i'm doing it i was actually already in my head i had a minus planned
11:22and i was going back and forth of it and i and i thought if i've given jale gomez an a plus i go and
11:27andre and a i go a minus no i'm going a i'm going to go for it i'm going to go for it purely because
11:3414 goals is a fantastic return yeah in his first season yes he had some difficult moments as well
11:40went through long spells of not scoring and then had that really good spell that sort of bumped his
11:45numbers up but 14 goals as a return i think is fantastic and he's got a lot more i think that
11:51can come um and if he can consistently get those kind of numbers he's going to be a really important
11:55player for wolves and they'll have other clubs looking at him as well but he will be a permanent
11:58wolf player this summer with that loan deal becoming permanent and uh he's turned out to be a
12:02no good simon so it's not with us anymore um he got his dream move um to manchester that's matthias
12:08kunya uh i mean look i talk about the good the bad and the ugly i think in the defenders the good
12:15bad and the ugly in terms of um matthias kunya look incredibly talented one of the best strikers in
12:20the premier league number 10s in the premier league that's for certain didn't surprise me that he's gone
12:24to a a big club and we finished a whole grand total one place above wolves um last season but
12:31look i think in when when matthias kunya is matthias kunya and he's on form he is incredible and was one
12:36of the main reasons that wolf stayed up this season let's be honest i know that um he had um some issues
12:42off the field i know he missed uh the time through two suspensions as well but look ironically wolves
12:47when they without matthias kunya um i went on an incredible run divisive at times stroppy at times
12:55walking at times but the talent is there and the talent is undeniable um and i think we both agreed
13:02that he was our play this season and i think that just speaks volumes to the actual play was when he
13:06was on the pitch but we've got to take everything into account here for me when he's a play would
13:11have been an a plus plus um but you you look at the bad side you look at the way that things worked
13:15out um i'm gonna give him an a minus overall i think we should give him two marks by the way i
13:23completely agree on a minus again me and you are nailing this uh this week i mean we we are on the
13:27same wavelength a minus is the official one but let's give him two a plus plus for talent goal scoring
13:34and a massive u for his professionalism and his attitude and his behavior um incredibly embarrassing
13:42at times um and a very very strange individual but a wonderful footballer and a brilliant brilliant
13:50match winner and someone who can change a game and has that bit of magic uh he'll be missed for a lot
13:56of reasons because of because of all of those on the pitch a brilliant ability he's got i think
14:02genuinely he's borderline world class i think if if all goes i mean this is difficult to say with
14:08manchester united because they're an absolute mess but if things fall into place for him i think he
14:12could have a massive next season and season beyond um but off the pitch he's an absolute disaster and
14:19he's a nightmare and he's got to change a hell of a lot of things to to move forward so um i still
14:26think he should be a walsy player of the season i understand why the fan didn't vote for him and
14:29vote for joe and andre second actually had him third totally understand it in my opinion he's still
14:34my wals player of the season for for the goals he scored and the ability he's got um so a minus i
14:39think is about right because you can't ignore the apswich incident the bournemouth incident and a lot
14:44of other stuff in between as well yeah um interesting one at manchester united i think he was going into
14:48a side that were champions league contenders and big big names now i think he would struggle i think
14:52the fact that he walks in there and probably becomes the second best player straight away in that
14:56man united squad probably helps him a little bit he likes to be the main man he likes to be
15:00adored i think by the fans and when he's not then i think you see a different side to matthias
15:04couldn't you so in terms of the mess that man united are in i think it probably helps matthias
15:09couldn't you going into that situation but yeah needs to change his attitude uh very quickly but in
15:13terms of his his commitments towards on the pitch yeah i completely agree a plus plus but right if you
15:18want to be adored by the fans maybe don't slag them off on social media that's probably a good
15:22idea isn't it you want to be adored by your own fans maybe don't have a go at them
15:26but he's a minus overall um so we got off from an a minus um to oh no what did you give strong
15:35last night did you i gave him an a oh okay from an a to an f um thank you very much carlos
15:42forbes uh this season in terms of the forwards we'll be back tomorrow and we'll be bringing you
