00:00Worried that AI could take your job? Well, those concerns might be justified.
00:05Amazon is warning its employees that the company will have a smaller workforce in the future because of generative AI and agents.
00:13In a memo to employees, CEO Andy Jassy said the tech giant will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today and more people doing other types of jobs.
00:22He added, it's hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce.
00:31Now, some of those AI agents haven't even been built yet, but Jassy warned they're coming and coming fast.
00:36In turn, he said employees should learn how to use AI tools and figure out how to get more done with scrappier teams.
00:43Amazon has already laid off about 30,000 employees since 2022, but still has roughly one and a half million employees worldwide.
00:51That'll do it for your daily briefing from the New York Stock Exchange. I'm Caroline Woods with The Street.
