'They're Coming For You Again, Big Bird!': Gwen Moore Decries GOP's Attacks On Public Broadcasting

During remarks on the House floor last week, Rep. Gwen Moore (D-MI) spoke about Republican efforts to defund PBS.

00:28If so, you have the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to thank.

00:34But now Republicans are trying to take them down.

00:37Yes, Republicans are trying to get rid of your favorite PBS stations.

00:42They're coming for you again, Big Bird.

00:45Our youngest constituents, our babies, have so much to lose if PBS is gutted.

00:51PBS provides educational program for our children and locally tailored content for families.

00:57It's free, and it doesn't require expensive cable or streaming subscriptions.

01:02PBS and its affiliate stations also provide emergency alerts that are quick and reliable,

01:09reaching 97% of households during natural disasters.

01:14Republicans' devastating cuts would mean many PBS stations would be forced to shutter,

01:20especially those in rural areas.

01:23They likely won't be able to fill the gap.

01:25The Corporation for Public Broadcasting needs and deserves support from Congress, and I yield back.
