00:00Sudan's Prime Minister, Dr. Hamil El-Taib Idris, has directed the reopening of universities in Khatoum.

00:08In a memo to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research,

00:12the PM directed that a proper assessment of the damages and repairs be done

00:17following the attacks on the university buildings and research centers.

00:21The war in Sudan, which began in April 2023, has severely affected the country's education sector,

00:27with many institutions in Khatoum stayed destroyed or rendered unusable.

00:31He also directed the National Centre for Curriculum and Educational Research

00:35to include lessons fostering peace, national unity,

00:38and rejecting hate speech in their journey to national recovery and reconciliation.

00:44The PM did not give a specific date for the reopening.

00:48The war has killed at least 24,000 people, though the number is likely far higher.

00:52It has driven about 13 million people from their homes,

00:55including 4 million who cross into neighboring countries.

00:58It created the world's worst humanitarian crisis,
