Gunman attack in north-central Nigeria: death toll climbs to 150

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack perpetrated by armed gunmen in Benue state, but local conflicts between herders and farmers have become increasingly deadly in recent years.

00:07The death toll from violent gunmen attacks in north central Nigeria that happened over the weekend kept rising.
00:14And villagers were still looking for survivors and dozens of people who were missing on Monday.
00:23Many headsmen came in around the Yelota East and started firing gunshots.
00:29They fired for almost five hours.
00:32They made a stiff resistance here from the police.
00:37Immediately when they made the resistance, they moved towards Yelota New Market.
00:42There they slaughtered more than 100 persons.
00:45The incidents lasted for more than five hours.
00:48They burned some of our community members in stores there.
00:51There are some stores that are housing more than 50 persons.
00:55All were burnt down.
00:57People slaughtered there.
00:58Others burnt to ashes.
01:01No one immediately claimed responsibility for the killings.
01:05But local conflicts between herders and farmers fighting over land and water resources frequently escalate in the region.
01:14This attack on the peaceful Yelota community is one attack too many.
01:22It is not just an attack on the people of Benio State.
01:26It is an attack on the entire nation.
01:29And we are not going to accept it.
01:33The people of this community are not alone.

01:37The entire Nigerian communities are with them.
