Angus Jones from HM Inspectorate of Prisons explains how drones are used to smuggle in drugs at HMP Elmley on Sheppey
Transcript
00:00Many of the grills over the windows that should protect against drone and other ingress routes were compromised.
00:09So essentially they had holes in them or they'd been bent out of shape so that prisoners could use sticks and other devices to hook packages off drones and bring them into the prison.
00:23And put bluntly, there wasn't a proper or an adequate response to this.
00:27So the issue is ongoing. And now we think that the problem needs several approaches to stop it.
00:36But certainly one of them is the boring fixing of windows, checking internal security and carrying out drug tests, as well as trying to work out a more long term solution about how to stop the drones coming into the prison in the first place.
