We chat with Colin Hall at The Cupola Hope Valley
Transcript
00:00I'm speaking with Colin Hall from Copola. How are you doing Colin? Hello, fine.
00:06So what do you do here then? Well, it's kind of a place that I run with my staff. I mean,
00:12they do most of the work. I generally sit on my laptop and do all the boring stuff, but...
00:16Hard worker, that's what you're welcome. So I understand that you own the visitor-centric
00:22kitchen, which is at this Copola, and then also the Rock Mill apartment. Oh, not all of them,
00:28I wish I did. Just one or two, that's all. And I think it's great how you, you know,
00:34people can incorporate stay at the Breedbeer Street, and dine here at the Copola, and then also,
00:42you know, and get a good night's sleep at the Rock Mill apartment. Yes. I think it's pretty
00:47unique in terms of its location. Yeah, pretty amazing Middleton Gorge, as maybe you can see
00:55if you swing around. It's a dramatic gorge, kind of Cheddar Gorge of Derbyshire,
01:01if it was to be similarised to something. But to stay in self-catering accommodation,
01:08effectively a hotel-like accommodation, but you've got your own lounge, you've got your own
01:13kitchen, you've got your own bedroom. You know, it's an awful... To have that space is a huge advantage.
01:19And then, just a few yards away, you can come to the Polo and you can learn all about,
01:23not only Stoney Middleton, which is quite an amazing village in its own right,
01:26but generally about the Peak District and how all of this came to be.
01:30And then eat some amazing food, which of course I'm going to say, whether that's breakfast,
01:34lunch or dinner. Right. Because it's more than just staying at the Peak District,
01:38it's just kind of feeling the heritage as well. Oh yeah, completely. That's very much...
01:46It's a very difficult message to try and get across, because you're not just doing one thing.
01:49It's kind of immersive by joining together the connectiveness of being able to stay somewhere,
01:56being able to learn about where you are and have some food that connects to all of that. So to join
02:00all that together into one sort of joined up thing without having to do a lot yourself, it's all done
02:04for you. And we've got some great guided walks. Just get the maps out and go for the walk,
02:09all from the doorstep. Pretty unique, I think. Yeah. It feels like more than just a holiday.
02:16I was in the apartment just now. It felt like a home from home. Oh, brilliant. Exactly. I mean,
02:21that was the whole purpose of building an accommodation that has the benefits of being at home.
02:29The lounge, the kitchen. So you can be in, you can go out, you treat it like a hotel room,
02:34you treat it like holiday closures, you meet, or treat it like home. Stick the telly on,
02:38put your feet up, stay in, you know, make your own food, come here, whatever. Thank you.
