00:00What's going on? I'm Richie. I sing in the band Dream Phone. We are on the American Hedonism Tour
00:15right now with your neighbors. Our first US tour has been amazing. We're here at Shuba's in Chicago.
00:22So I'm going to run you through everything we use on stage. I'm going to start with my guitars.
00:25So this is an American Tele. I've had it about a year now. It's all stock. I use my neck pickup basically the entire time.
00:33I got volume up. I push this guy out. But usually I just kind of keep it all the way up because we run our tones through Kemper.
00:41So I use Ernie Ball gauge 11 power slinkies for my strings. I really like the little bit heavier just for the parts I play.
00:49I play mainly rhythm. Yeah. And then any solo stuff I do is just the D and A. So I really like the heavier ones.
00:56So this one's always in standard. I have a Jag that I'll show you next. That's always drop D half step down.
01:03So basically drop D flat. But this guy's always in standard. Most of our stuff is in standard.
01:09So this is my American Jag. I use the same strings as the Tele. Gauge 11 or Ernie Ball power slinkies.
01:15I always have it in drop D half step down. So really drop D flat. But I play it like drop D.
01:22I use my neck pickup for this one too. I got the volume and the tone always up.
01:29Yeah. I've had this thing for about 10 years now. So you can see it's been a little wear and tear.
01:35But this is my baby. I'll always have this thing. I love it.
01:38So this is our in-ear rack. It looks like a lot. It's not too bad. You can see we have a bunch of panels on this for airflow and stuff.
01:46These are our two in-ear systems. We have one that I use. It's stereo. It sounds great in my ears.
01:53This one's a dual. We were able to finagle it. So Reese the guitar player and Demi our drummer can have their own mixes.
02:00It's mono though. So they don't get as nice of a sound as me.
02:05And then this is our X32. This thing is a game changer. This allows us to run our own ears.
02:11So front of house we don't have to do up, down, guitar, drums, all that with front of house. It's made it a lot easier.
02:18And then that runs through this guy right here which has all our tails.
02:23And all of these are everything that we use on stage. And that's what shoots into this.
02:27And then we have another snake at the back of it. And this guy comes out into the front of house.
02:35So they get their stuff. We get our stuff through here.
02:39And then this is our stage box. And this is where everything that comes out in the front of house goes into.
02:44So you got your drums. You got playback. You got guitars. My vocal.
02:48Anything that anybody needs to hear goes through this.
02:51Yeah, this is really nice to not have to go into the front of house all the time. We just give them the tails.
02:56So this is our guitar rack. I have two wireless systems. I use one for my Tele, one for my Jaguar.
03:03And this is sick too because I got this little switch right here.
03:06So you plug guitar one into A and then that will be on red.
03:10And then when I hit B, it will be my Jag right here so I can use wirelesses for both which is awesome.
03:15And then these are our two Kempers. We got Reese, Richie.
03:21We do our own tones on the computer. They go in and this saves it.
03:25And it's got patches for every song.
03:27The game changer about this one is we don't need pedals.
03:32And that's because we have MIDI coming out into that, which I'll show you next.
03:36And it automatically, through our live session, changes all the sounds.
03:41So we have verse, chorus, pre, anything that we need, it will just change it.
03:45So as a singer, game changer.
03:47I don't need to be going through pedals, nothing like that.
03:50These things are amazing.
03:52So most of my sounds are a Morgan AC-20.
03:55It's all clean, very 80s, like Michael Jackson type sounds.
03:59For my distortion, we use the Friedman tones.
04:03They are not used very much by me.
04:06But there are some parts where we get a little beefier, a little more rock.
04:09And so when we go to that, we switch to those.
04:12A lot of the effects I use, I have a lot of slapback reverb, normal reverb, delay.
04:17We use some octaves every now and then with some beefier songs.
04:20We have a song called Chaotic that has a lot of baritone guitar sounds.
04:24So we have that go through this to make it sound like we've got a baritone with our normal electric guitars.
04:30Yeah, a lot of it's the verb, a lot of it's the delay, trying to keep that 80s style.
04:35So this is our playback rig.
04:37This thing is another game changer.
04:40Right here I have my wireless mic.
04:42The reason it's in this is because it runs through the play audio as well.
04:45So the play audio, we have a snake right here.
04:49And it's 10 tracks of our backing tracks.
04:52So everything's stereo, everything can be controlled, any volume we want.
04:56And my mic goes through that as well for effects like reverb.
04:59We have a lot of delay.
05:01Some parts we go hard on the tuning.
05:04Yeah, and then also the Mio right here.
05:07This thing is what makes all the sounds change automatically from the Kempers.
05:13We also have an SPD and triggers that go on the drums.
05:17So in choruses and stuff, we can have the sample snare, the sample kick on top of the live, which is amazing.
05:25And that will change the sounds as well.
05:27So we do that from the back.
05:29And then this is the Apollo, and this runs those vocal effects.
05:32So like I was saying, the verb delay, the tune, all goes through this.
05:36And these all connect to our computer, and it reads it through Ableton.
05:40And, yeah, it makes it so easy.
05:42We don't have to do anything on stage.
05:43It's just great.
05:45So the picks I use, it's a one millimeter gauge.
05:48I like the little bit of heavier.
05:49I don't like it when they bend and stuff.
05:50I play a lot of picky stuff.
05:53On the front, we got our logo.
05:55On the back, we got our album name, Postmanic, and my signature.
05:59I throw these things out a lot.
06:01It's good promotion.
06:02People love it.
06:03I sign it at the end of the night.
06:05So I gear up on like 300, 400 for every tour.
06:09And I drop them a lot.
06:10So it's good to have all those.
06:12But I love these picks.
06:13They're really nice in my hand.
06:15They're really, like I said, picky.
06:18I don't know if you know what that means, but I know what that means.
06:21And, yeah, I love these guys.
06:22So the mic I use, I use a wireless.
06:24I like not having the cable go down.
06:27I trip on it a lot.
06:29It's an EWG4.
06:30I've used this thing for about eight years now.
06:33It's never failed me.
06:35Battery's great.
06:35It's so clear.
06:37It's got a lot of power behind it.
06:39When we plug it in, it's very, very loud.
06:41I'm going to take it off the stand, too.
06:42It's really light, too.
06:44And not having the cable is a beautiful thing.
06:47So, yeah, I love this guy.
06:48Really reliable.
06:50So for in-ears, I use Ken Driver's Ultimate Ears.
06:52They're molded.
06:53I went to an audiologist.
06:55Got them all molded.
06:56It is the best thing ever.
06:58I started using them when I was, like, 15 years old.
07:01I haven't looked back.
07:02I haven't used a stage monitor in, what, 13 years now?
07:06Really consolidated.
07:08You can't hear much outside the mix.
07:11With the ears, too, I never take them out.
07:14I used to do that to hear the crowd and stuff.
07:17But like I was talking about with my mic, my mic is so powerful that I do hear the crowd through that.
07:22So I like to keep them in.
07:23I like to be in my head.
07:24I feel like I hit the vocal notes a lot better.
07:27I hit my guitar a lot better.
07:29It's just nice not having anything else going on.
07:32So I'm one of those guys that keep it in all the time.
07:34I never take them out.
07:35And they're another game changer, man.
07:37They're great.
07:38So once again, I'm Richie from Dream Phone.
07:39We have a new song out right now.
07:41It's called Chaotic.
07:42It's one of my favorite ones we've ever done.
